Is it worth placing both Leo Barry & Micky O on the Veterans list for next year? They are both eligible having played for 10yrs+ & will be over 30 on the 30/9/2007.

There are pros & cons to both sides of the discussion.

Pros:
50% of there payments are not included in the salary cap
Not required to delist another player to take part in the draft with Willo's retirement (3 picks minimum)
Would it allow us to heavily forward load a contract for Spida in the PSD so as nobody else could afford him

Cons:
Do we need to save the salary space next year, will we be spending 92.5% of the cap?
Reduces the number of rookies we can draft

I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons. However the club may well have already planned on putting these two on the veterans list 2 yrs ago & loaded current contracts up.

It will be interesting to see which direction the club takes!

With O'Loughlin, his contract is heavily back-ended. Will be a near certainty to go to the vet's list.

Is Barry actually eligible? He turns 30 in May and I'm unsure precisely where the cut-off point is.

If we can put both of them on there, we should do so. Use the salary cap space to renegotiate some key contracts. Also, with Williams, Chambers, O'Loughlin, Barry, Willoughby, M.Davis and Erickson off the senior list, we have plenty of space to chase a ruckman and a fringe-tall, promote Phillips (if the club intends to do so) and still pick up several kids in the draft.
