So that's what Mojo sounds like? :p :D
* No favourite for number one until the medical screenings and interviews are finished at the draft camp
Bryce who? :p
* "James (Fantasia) can say what he likes and we'll what we can to put him in a position to stay at this footy club for his entire career"(sic)
* "We need everything and we'll pick the best player available"
* We'll pick another four or five players this year and keep picking players so we'll get a pretty good list in time
* I watched Gibbs play his first league game last year.
Compared him to Wanganeen and Buckley at the same age for playing in the SANFL at just seventeen. Wayne said Bryce kicked six playing on ball and is rarely tackled at senior level despite not being fast.
Wayne mentioned Leuenberger, Hansen and Gumbleton as contenders for pick one but he gave a good rap to Gibbs.
* Pick the best player even if he's a tall and it's going to take three years for these kids to develop so we should be patient.
Nice out.
* In regards to what Denis wants, Wayne attends match committee every Monday morning and pick one is part of a long process that's be going on all year.
* Talking about doing 30 metre repeat test in conjunction with the AIS for the first time in years
* All the clubs will get good players this year
* F/S: Sam hasn't played for a month but forced his way back into the team and was a good player. He'll talk to their families and let them know what we're doing. We'll lose picks 1, 19 and 36 if we draft all of them so 17 can't be traded. ;)
* Batsanis, Kelly, Goldstein are at the state screening and shouldn't be discouraged from being drafted. Wayne said clubs generally nominate interstate players to see them and hide local players.
* We'll take the best player and do what's best for Carlton
That's it.
he just mentioned about the F/S rule. He said if we were to take all 3, we would lose pick 1, 19 and 35 in the draft

no real surprises:
Draft camp results important (icing on cake) but pick on footy ability first
Picking best available (4 or 5 picks in total)
Back club to keep any player their for the duration of their careers (including Gibbs).
Lots of talk of Bryce Gibbs, but mainly KB directing the interview this way. Hughes said he's watched him a lot, including first senior game of SANFL last year.....compared him to Wanganeen and Buckley at the same age debuting in SANFL, more or less said the best performances at senior level he's seen for a kid of Gibb's age when he debuted.
(Gibbs #1, lock it in Eddie :D)
Also said Leuenberger couldn't have had better end to the season.
Process of recruiting evolves over the year, recruiting staff involved in match committee meetings, etc... so consultation with Denis important.
new test this year, repetitive sprint test, WH said not sure what it will tell us....(sounds a bit like ability for lungs to recover from bursts of anaerobic activity).
F/S situation: Jake started GF very well, Sam hadn't played for a month, was good in 3rd quarter......all F/S doing state screening and we will be talking to all their families. Some tough decisions to be made, do what we can to support sons of past champions (rookie them if they are still around?)
Obviously he is not going to give anything away but he did sound very fond of Gibbs.

Just in summary for you guys,
Hughes: "Draft camp could be the deciding factor in separating the top two/three".
Hughes: "James Fantasia can say what he likes, we'll create an environment at the club where players love to stay for their entire careers" - Re: Gibbs
Hughes: "Wont be a matter of picking for positions, the best player will be selected."
Hughes: "Leunberger can play forward and as a ruckmen, Gumbleton can play forward and down back, Hansen can play forward and back - Versatility is very important in todays game."
Hughes: "What Bryce Gibbs has done at his age is unparalleled in my time as a recruiter since the likes of Gavin Wanganeen and Nathan Buckley."
"Bryce could be number 1,but Leunberger had a huge match in the Grand Final, Gumbleton also has played very, very well in the WAFL for the past 2 years."
Good question from Kevin Barlett, "What does Carlton look for?" Hughes' answer - "You pick the best player available and you hope the best for their development. You could pick a KPP in development and see them develop over the next few years or you could pick Bryce and you could see him play AFL footy next week."
Barlett: "What say does Dennis Pagan have in drafting (in term of positions), Hughes: "It's a process that involves both the recruiting staff and ofcourse Dennis. I talk about what i've done each week at the meetings on Monday and we go from there. Dennis is actually up at Canberra today for the Draft Camp."
Barlett: "What are you looking for in interviews?", Hughes: "Not much, just enhances your knowledge about them. We mainly ask about their schooling and how their family is and what kind of surroundings they would prefer around them if we recruit them to Carlton."
Hughes: "Certainly one of the best batches (draft) that we've seen in some time."
Barlett: "What about the Father/Son situation?" - Hughes: "Jake Williams and Sam Sheldon are very much in the mix, we'll talk to their families in due course. Tommy Johnson is also being considered."
UHughes: "Unfortunately everyone can't go to Canberra for the Draft Camp, but players like Dean Kelly and Goldstein (ruckman?) who played well in the TAC Cup will definitely be in consideration."

Mojo is not WH :p
Heard it. Didn't actually say it, but was obvious Gibbs will be taken with #1, and we won't be taking any under the F/S rule because we'd have to give up valuable high draft picks. :)

I also heard it & yep as Gilly says lock it in as Gibbs.
If the old priiority still existed I would be locking Leunebeger as the Baggers No 2, especially after the interview.

Mojo is not WH :p
Is it because he doesn't appear to love Hanson as much as he loves Gibbs?

Nah, you just have to listen to the paralinguistics and read between the lines :D . I saw somebody make the point on Talking Carlton that Wayne called all of the kids by their surnames apart from Bryce :D ;)

I agree, pretty obvious HUGHES was keen on GIBBS as No 1 pick, but he was also very impressed with Leuenberger as well. So I believe it will be between Gibbs or Leuenberger for No 1 pick, probably Gibbs, as he described him as another Wanganeen or Buckley at the same age. Let's hope we can get another top 5 pick in the trade period so we can pick up Leuenberger as well as Gibbs.

Four or five picks!
How freakin' conservative. We finnished last for christ's sake! How long do they want us to take to get the "right mix" of kids?
We are not rebuilding, we are treading water with a new take on on hole-plugging, only most of thes blokes are about five years, or so, younger. :( :(

4 or 5 picks is being sensible, theres no good taking 10 picks and ending up with 5 cameron croads. And if we arent rebuilding what do you suggest we as a club do to improve? You are obviously not happy with the way things are going, so make some suggestions on what we need to do?
