Michael Stevens from the Hun was giving a bit of a run down on trade news and said that Kelly to Essendon was on the cards and also that S Johnson has been linked to the deal to secure Tarrant at the cattery.

I know there's a fair bit of crap going around at this time of year and I personally can't see the pies showing Tarrant the door just yet.

I'd certainly want to have a crack at Bradshaw before Tarrant though but either one would improve our so called forward line.

Both lack value after there seasons. We know there is potential in both, but 2006 hurt their value.

If this is the case, a likely trade - Johnson and 2nd round (pick 18, traded from Essendon from Kelly)

Would be absolutely filthy if we lost both kelly and SJ for Tarrant. One I could handle (with a 2nd round pick). Would be very surprised to see it happen anyway.

Steve Johnson this year: 30 goals from 15 games.
Chris Tarrant this year: 36 goals from 21 games.

Don't do it Cats!!!!!!!!! Go Bradshaw or no one!!!!!!

SJ>>>>>>>Tarrant

Greg Denham on SEN said the Cats haven't been responsive to clubs asking about SJ and Kelly - so who knows.

Mike Sheahan (yes I know, why quote him, but this time he's right) he said you take the good with the bad with SJ. And his good is great.

Trade Johnson and Kelly for top 20 picks instead of players like Tarrant.

We're going to have 3 talls in our forward line with Ottens/Hawkins, Ablett and Mooney.

We should be concentrating on drafting quick midfielders, and creative running half back flankers. Fix those 2 areas up, with a better midfield set-up in terms of run and carry and winning many more clearances, will most help us go back up the ladder.

I don't know, Kelly has had a bad 06, but I dont want to trade him because he will go somewhere else and win the Brownlow. Then we will all be peaved big time.

His 05 form was great, and he is a proven finals performer. I hope we can keep him.

Kelly for Essendon's priority is something to consider as if he has another season like the one just passed he is worth about as much as David Spriggs. The draft pick received would give us a shot, two chances with our own R2 pick, at the second tier of midfielders so we can nab one with pace while using our first pick to add quality and not wasting it on Varcoe MKII in Jetta. It also gives the player group a bit of a shake up.

I think Tarrant is a player that can turn it around at another club but I really don't think we are in a position to trade away two established players for either Bradshaw or Tarrant.

I'm sick of people talking about trading SJ. Yes, he is hot/cold, but he had the highest goals per game average for us this year.

Tarrant is a hot/cold hack who can't kick, and if Geelong trades SJ for him, it shows that the recent review has taught them nothing.

I don't think either SJ or Kelly will be traded. If one of them was, I suspect it would more likely be Kelly.

Kelly can go for the right deal. Keep SJ. Get his mind and body right [yeah I know its a big ask] and he's one of the few Cats who can turn a game.

Anyone who thinks Tarrant is a hack is a fool. If we got Stellar, Taz and Hawkins in one year then it would be a massive coup. We have nobody presenting across half forward with speed I repeat nobody!! If Dog stays I would get rid of Mackie as well. Jason Johnson looks like walking out on Essendon. 2nd rd pick for Mackie, 2nd round pick for JJ. Gamble or then even Varcoe can be a back up forward pocket to cover Mackie

I dont think SJ should be traded if the intention is to play jr and chappy in the middle a little more. With the talls coming in I think there is a need to have good crumbers at their feet.

Last year I would have agreed with you but I'm not sure after what Fevola's done this year. I would hate to see SJ go as I love watching him play and I believe two dangerous small forwards (gaz and SJ) are hard to cover all the time.
Tarrant is a player IMO that should not play out of the full forward line, I see him more a a forward flanker or even CHF where his pace would be his biggest asset, let's not forget he is a great mark on the lead and overhead, he's just not that good one on one.
If we could swap Kelly for Tarrant I reckon I'd do just that. (The pies would want 8 first round draft picks, our best and fairest and a set of steak knives anyway).
***what the cats do not need is another slow midfielder, stay away from Jason Johnson***

Why not trade Kelly? If the menu for our drafting this year is quick skillful midfielders, surely in a few seasons time, if not sooner a couple of middies on our list are going to become surplus?

Tarrant has the potential and could turn it around with a fresh start.

Geelong have an average midfield, way too slow to win a premiership.

Gazzajr is god
4 Oct 2006, 18:47
As much as I would like Tarrant here, to get rid of SJ would be a disaster. SJ and Gaz are the only 2 players we have that can turn a game in 10 minutes. 50 goals from SJ is not out of the question if he got everything right next year.

JJ - Stay away. To get rid of Kelly for a similar type player but 4 years older would really get the members offside.

I'm not sure I really want that poser Tarrant in our team. As someone else, he's just as lazy as S.J half the time. That said, he does have potential and he may well put in a blinder of a season with a change of scenery.

I still think he might be a tad overrated.

After personally attacking two individuals on this board, narcissistically believing that you are the only expert on the game and displaying exceptionally bad grammar (the correct usage is you're a loser, as in you are), I would prefer to listen to the wisdom of others.

Tarrant may be a 'good average player', but only used up the ground away from goals where his kicking can't let him down as much. He has historically had a poor attitude and been involved in a number of off-field incidents, which would make me think that he is a bad choice to bring to a club with a number of players with questionable commitment.

Grain of salt champ. Maybe you should actually read the post's and find out who was "attacking who". If your worried by "exceptionally bad grammar" then maybe BigFooty isn't the place for you.

Listen to whoever you want. As you have said numerous times before you don't want Tarrant and that's fine. Many people do and that's also fine

Tarrant has shown that he can play when he applies himself; SJ has shown that he can play when he applies himself.

Tarrant's off-field attitude is disturbing and much publicised; SJ's off-field attitude is disturbing and much publicised.

Tarrant is one of Collingwood's marquee players and is most likely on a good packet; SJ is most likely getting paid less than Tarrant.

No point trading in your loose cannon for an expensive loose cannon.

We would want more than Johnson for Kelly. And Collingwood would want way more than Kingsley for Tarrant. Not sure why we would want Tarrant anyway, especially after Harley's speech last night which in effect entered a plea for a team of real goers - not Tarrant's strong suit.
