Huge call!!!! Love Abbey Road but but but but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you don't consider it the best ever? Or don't rate Ok Computer?

Being that The Beatles are my favorite band it's rare that I rate anything up with Pepper etc.

Ok Computer is a rare beast from my favorite modern band so it's hard for me to choose between the best of both bands.

I am going to make a confession. I have never heard OK Computer.

As to The Beatles. I reckon I might pick Sgt Peppers, White Album, Rubber Soul and Revolver over Abbey Road. This is a discussion on degrees of excellence though:thumbsu:.

Loved Takk also

I had forgotton how good this record is. Daniel jogged my memory and I have been giving it a fair play today. I do not have Takk so I will have to grab it. I am very much into experimental sounds. If you can recommend anything else along these lines I am more than interested. I mentioned listening to Pheadra by Tangerine Dream. I recommend that, though that veers more towards a genre I might call ambient/electronica/noise.

I'm the same into experimental/ambient music and always looking for something obscure to try.

Although it is difficult for me to post here often, I make a point of reading this thread every day, and I am delighted to see that so many Lions fans have such interesting and electic tastes in music.

The emphasis on ammbient/electronic has sent me back to some stuff I have neglected for a while

Shpongle, Turn up the silence ...... cant get much more deep ambient than that.

System 7...... their stuff ranges from trance/atmospheric to sparse down tempo.
They did a gig at a big Doof up near Woodford last year, and were amazing.

The Egg. Dont know much about this one as it was given to me as one of those shiny discs without any info, but it totally spaced out.

Keep up the good work people.

Talamasca (DJ Lestat for Anne Rice fans) The Fifth Revelation is Psychedelic/trance

For something a bit more mainstram I like The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, and when I am in the car I like to put the sound track from Run Lola Run up very very loud.

I am not clever enough to do the photo thing but if I was I would post The cover of Lovebox, by Groove Armada.

Alot of the 80s bands/singers have slipped into obscurity, however, we always remember the words and the songs as soon as we hear them. Wasn't the biggest Howard Jones fan back then, but loved the look of the DVD, which also had special appearances from Nina and Midge Ure (Ultravox) and so glad I bought it. Can recommend it to anyone.

That was what '86? I think that is where the minds went into a downward spiral into stadium banality. The early minds in particular the gorgeous New Gold Dream are the essential Cds. Sparkle In The Rain & Empires & Dance are also well worth getting. The later is very early and very experimental. They did make a bit of a comeback with Neopolis which was a throw back to the early days.

I bought Neapolis in Vienna a few years ago and it came in a metal tin.

Yeah, Simple Minds' best stuff was from the early 80s

Not sure I agree with you on this one. Yes, the 80's was a high point for them, however, if you stop and listen to all their albums they consistently produce classy, adult music. I think the current stuff is as good as it has ever been.

New Gold Dream is their masterpiece no doubt. Generally I don't like much of what they did from the mid 80's onward. But the fact that Neapolis came out in '98 proves the Minds still had it.

Yeah, the White Stripes were the same for me. I think it was only through listening to a bit more JJJ recently that I started nodding the head along, which made digesting the album easier. Not an album for sitting down and listening to. More background music for me. But I agree it's all been done before.

That link is The Beat that i'm referring to. But not a ska band, these (http://www.thebeatuk.com/beat_story.html) guys I think you mean.

Anyway, if your into a bit of late 70s power pop than it's about some of the best you will hear.

Sorry I wrote that poorly. That links to The Beat you know and that link links to The Beat I know, I think:). The link is the name English beat (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE57C17DD4DAF7E20C9933151DDB02AD20BD744EA81102404 5BD9A17F4998116EF852F79B98E4BA39B578B0FC2EBB580FD3CCA250F6DC 67373D85FED71D&sql=11:ezadqj3bojha). IIRC the same thing happened to Squeeze. In Australia, and it may have been elsewhere, they had to be called UK Squeeze.

Admit I don't know much about the English one (my ska knowledge ends at Operation Ivy:o) but there a claims on different websites that both at some point changed their names as to not be confused with the other.:D

I'm pretty sure the US one only released that one album under that name and did I mention it was a ripper.
