I do not know anything about Midlife but I am a fan of the lo fi style of music which I believe they are sometimes mentioned as. Love Chris Knox and Daniel Johnson for example. The Dunedin sound from NZ may be related as well. Love this genre. I will have to check this out.

You can listen to a couple of songs here (http://openyoureyestomusic.blogspot.com/2006/08/midlake-trials-of-van-occupanther.html). Just scroll down a bit. Both Roscoe and Young Bride are great tracks.

Dunedin, huh? Isn't that where The Chills came from?

Yes. The Chills are superb. I am a huge admirer of NZ independant music. It deserves a wider audience.

I had Strange Bird first and dug it straight off, although over time it grew on me even more (if that makes sense). Then I got Sunset Studies and didn't think as quote good at first, but now rate it an equal. I though Moo You Bloody Choir wasn't as good as the first two, but it's grown on me to the extent where I rank it with the other two. But Augie albums are like that. They grow over you and through you. Each one's slightly different, but somehow the same. And every time you listen to them you hear some little nuance, a little turn of phrase that you'd never picked up on before.
Just don't ask me to pick a favourite!:)

Anyway John, you're life will be poorer if you've never listened to them!

Fatty did a bad, bad thing a few years ago. Turntable died, so he went and bought new sound system sans turntable. Mrs Fatty asked "With no turntable, why have vinyl?" and suggested sale of record collection.

Despite the easy $$$, Fatty is lamenting rash decision. Anyway, a recent purchase of an iPOD sees Fatty downloading many of the tracks of hist lost youth/adolescence/early 20's/betond. Slade/Motorhead/Buzzcocks/Jam/Radio Birdman/Iggy are but a few. (Even downloaded my first love - Suzi Quatro !). If only Mrs Fatty would don the leathers and do "Can the Can", I may just forgive her!!

A copy of my old "Not Like Everybody Else" album would do just fine! It's about time the junior Fatty's were educated to the charms of Jimmy & Joylene.

An all time great recording. With you all the way scott522. I got ziggy the year it was released as a lad of 12. It was a revelation. I caught the Church at a place called The Metro under the Myer Centre. I think there is a Sizzler there now. That was many many moons ago:o. They where so loud that Steve Kilby asked the mixing desk to to turn it down:eek:. I had not heard The Church for many a long year. A couple of weeks back I finally caught the film Donnie Darko (super flick) and The Church had Under The Milky Way on the soundtrack. You may have read my mention of playing the Headless Chickens Body Blow. The girl singer on that recording is a lass called Fiona McDonald, a Kiwi. She has sang a cover of Under The Milky Way on Strawpeoples Broadcast album and done a fine job. Good stuff scott522:thumbsu:.

Did you see Idol when Bobby did UTMW ? I'm sure Mr Kilby would not have been disappointed in his rendition...best place they used to play was at the Gatton Ag College eons back ('80's) - had great acoustics and the following there were all mad fans - 31/2 min songs would be stretched out to 7 mins, Marty W-P's solos and they would chuck in the occasional cover - (love their version of I Am A Rock that was on the Sing Songs ep)...
have also seen Donnie Darko - agree, good movie...:)

Good song. Do you like Teardrop by MA?
MA first three records are very very high on my list of must have recordings. Blue Lines, Protection and Mezzanine. I find Trip Hop a very eclectic style of music that appeals to me. I think that their recent recording 100th Window is a failure. I have not heard the Danny The Dog soundtrack so cannot comment.

As to these first three they all are differant. I always have trouble deciding what one I prefer, the sultry hip hop/jazzy/funky of Blue Lines, the more commercial style of Protection with it's slow beauty of the title track and eerie keyboards on songs such as Three and Heat Miser, or the dark sound scapes of Mezzanine with the lifting Angel, the eerie Teardrop with the mournfull Man Next Door. If you have only heard Teardrop I would suggest giving them a further listen as they are a very rewarding group. :thumbsu:
