I think we are seeing the best opening combination ever in Australian cricket with Langer and Hayden, which of course has been proven.
I think the next best combination is Woodfull & Ponsford, followed by Lawry & Simpson then Marsh & Boon
Anyone have any ideas who as opening combinations be better than the lot above?

Gordon Greenidge & Desmond Haynes were the best combination IMO.
But if you are talking Aussie openers Langer & Hayden are certainly up there.

i think GB was asking for Aussie openers. you've both easily forgotten about tubby and slats who had many innings together. by partnership average (1000 runs minimum), hayden and langer are the greatest opening pair in test cricket history. If they managed to play together as long as greenidge and haynes (which won't happen), then i'm sure that numerically the Aussies would win in every comparison. that's not to say that they are or will be better than the mighty WI duo, just an indication of how poor so many current test nations are.
