Ballack sure got lucky landing a deal like that. He's past his best IMO. Surprised they havent let go of Wright Phillips yet. Poor bloke can hardly get on the park. Would love him at the Kop!

This is the problem with the EPL, they need a salary cap or something.

He hasnt stepped up in any way since Pires left. Still heavily reliant on Henry and Van Persie to threaten up front. Have you actually watched Pennant play for the Reds?? His supply is almost endless.

Funny you mention that when in the last two season, we've taken home the Champions League and FA CUP. You were saying about not being up to a particular level??
Chelsea is pretty much the best team money can buy...a Frankensten of sorts...Man U are under pressure to bring home some silverware again and Arsenal are still trying to threaten Chelsea with little success.
Liverpool are still trying to find the right mix, be that as it may, we finished with 82 pts last season...the most of any team finishing 3rd in the history of the league. FACT: In seasons 00/01 & 01/02, 82 pts wouldve secured the league title.
Emerton and Neil played well against Liverpool

Pennant is a pretty average footballer. Good for teams like Birmingham, etc but does not have the class to play for Man U, Arsenal or Chelsea.
Why did Arsenal discard him?
I cannot believe Liverpool picked him up.
Apart from Gerrard, Liverpool have no top line players.
Chelsea, Man U battle this year with Arsenal close behind. Very dangerous team Arsenal with their pace and power.
ps. I'm a Man U supporter.

They picked him up as they needed a someone running supply down the wings. Its no secret Kewell is on his last few of years as a top flight player.
Pennant has plenty of pace.
Arsenal have plenty of pace...power?? Questionable!
Liverpool have a number of top line players as a matter of fact. Crouch for one is exceptional in the air and his foot skills are fantastic for a guy his size.
Carragher is the most reliable backman in Europe. Nothing flashy, but doesnt need to be as he is consistent at ALL levels on competition.
Riise is a magician on the left...can play left back, down the wing and more importantly, has on several occasions drilled them in from well outside the 18 yard box.
Pepe Reina is a world class goalkeeper!! Has kept more clean sheets in his last 2 seasons than any keeper on the planet, let alone in Spain/England.
Liverpool do lack regular goal scoring ability, Ill admit that, but they recruited well in Bellamy and Kuyt. Speed was needed since Cisse kept breaking down.
We still have Sinama-Pongolle on our books....have you seen that boy run? Like Andy Lovett!!
Chelsea arent much without Lampard, Terry and Drogba..anyone will tell you that.
Arsenal struggle when Henry isnt lining up out front. Their defence is pretty weak, thats why they took in Gallas to shore things up. Lehmann was a basketcase before his stellar performance in the World Cup.
Liverpool still have a way to go before being a front runner, but we are in the top 4 of the competition. Make no mistake about that!

The problem is Chelsea has Lampard, Terry and Drogba. The eagles wouldn't be much good without Judd, Kerr and Cousins.
Liverpool have to beat teams like Blackburn if they want to be taken seriously.
Meanwhile my boys are on struggle street. Where was Mido on the weekend??

Ill agree with that. They drop stupid games at the beginning of the season.
Yeah, Spurs arent looking too flash at the minute. They'd want to climb the ladder quickly or risk losing their spot to teams like Everton and Villa vying for a berth in the Champions League/UEFA Cup. Everton are still my tip to make big waves on that side of the globe in a short amount of time. Every team shouldve given up anything to land Andy Johnson.

Please stop talking about Arsenal, Crave. I mean no offence but you've got no idea.
We beat Man U without Henry, but of course we are better when he plays. That goes for any team and their best player. Our defence has conceded 4 goals in the league this season, only Portsmouth have done better. Lehmann has been great for Arsenal since he came. And Fabregas "hasn't stepped up in any way" ? - just watch him play. Been great and is the best passer in the EPL.

Pennant has the pace but none of the class to cause any real damage. I hope Kewell can get back to his best but I think those days are long gone. Liverpool need him but more importantly we need him.
Risse - hack. Good left foot. Can run all day but once again lacks class.
Chelsea can cover all three of those players.
Liverpool are currently the fourth best team in the EPL but are a long way off Chelsea and Man U.

Im sure I already said that. For a player that can cover an entire wing or be asked to play a different role from game to game....hardly warranted to call him a hack. Not many attacking midfielders are able to play defensive roles down back.
Chelsea are only strong because of the financial backing they have. Any team with a billionaire as an owner can manufacture a champion side from nothing. They have so many quality players, they cant fit them all on the park at once eg. Wright Phillips.
A salary cap will definitely bring them back into the pack without a doubt.

Don't see the relevance, but yep. 3 FA cups and most importantly League Champions twice already this decade. And just quietly we're one of only 3 who can win the league this season, and are in the best form of the 3.

Man utd getting the job done without Ronaldo, Heinze, Neville. Luios Saha is a world class player now. That goal against Wigan was simply outstanding. About Lehmann... He practically was the reason why Germany got so far with some stunning saves i.e. penalty saves v Argentina ring the bell? (what keeper could've stopped Grosso's strike?)
Sure Chelsea have the last two league titles and Liverpool have the CL, but we are an extremely young team who are still about a season away from a title (hadn't Henry inexplicably shot straight @ Valdes when put through, perhaps the worst miss of his career we would be CL champs)

Well, I did mention his form in the WC was of a high standard, so no argument there.
Im sure AC Milan and West Ham could also ponder about what might have been....but as someone suggested earlier that Liverpool will never make those lofty heights was being simply ridiculous. We came back on both of those occasions from almost certain defeat on 2 of the world's largest stages AND walked away with the silverware.

Great for Aussie Football though, its about time the sport flexes some muscle on home soil and if it takes semi retired players to enhance the profile of the game here...Im all for it. The Soccerroos are much better than some people give them credit for. Just ask Japan, Croatia and Italy ;)

A champion team will beat a team of champions, re chelsea
Never know what goes in with Benitez...almost 100 games since he's fielded the same line up in consecutive games. I think Rafa is trying to field two different sides by having different strikers line up...plan A and B so to speak.
We've got Villa at home this week....should be a win, then again, Barry is in nice touch at the moment...danger game for your boys also against Bolton away although Nolan is out for 5 yellows and a straight red.
