When did this start happening ?

I watched Mythbusters tonight and there were probably 3 lots of 2 minutes worth of ad breaks during the show.Last weeks show didn't have ads during it.I think South Park also had ads.

I was gonna say the same thing. I missed Mythbusters but noticed it during Southpark tonight. Its never happened before, usually it runs right through and has ads between shows.

It was annouced back in June. To get more advertising dollars basically:

first thing i noticed tonight too. It's good in a way, none of thost annoying 10 minute ad breaks they have, but they were good for 30 minute shows where you could watch all the way through and then turn over afterwards.

I prefer having the long ad breaks between shows, although if you have to go to the toilet and there's still some time to go in the show that can be annoying :( That's why with ABC and (now formerly) SBS I always go to the toilet before I sit down to watch a show ;)

Very annoying... I taped Mythbusters last night and it ran over so I missed the last couple of minutes.

What is next, ads on ABC?

What the deuce?

That's so random and funny! So much thought for a toilet break. It's good you've got it sorted though. Wouldn't wanna poopy during your fave show! :D

The ads interrupting the programs blow. Poor form SBS. If it is a financial decision why do half the ads just advertise their own programs? I take it has something to do with the restrictions of a community station but bloody hell it is annoying.

5 minutes per hour maximum, and must only take place during "natural breaks" in the show.

And having seen the effect during Mythbusters last night... I barely noticed the change! My brain was so used to seeing ads during a show that it didn't hit me until the end that I was seeing ad breaks on SBS.

Frankly, I prefer this limited number of small ad breaks (cf commercial stations, where show breaks interrupt the ad schedule) to the one big break they used to have. And if it makes SBS less reliant on stingy govt funding, all the better.

Does this mean that now SBS programmes will start and finish on the half hour or hour instead of a 7 minute add break before shows commence?

Interesting with Mythbusters last night. The narrator,Robert Lee,said "after the break" and they went to ads.I saw that same episode 2 weeks ago on Discovery Channel, which also ads,and I'm fairly sure he doesn't say that in the show.I wonder if SBS have got him to do voice-overs to link to the ads.He does live in Australia and just records the narration in Sydney.

Yep saw it too. He said "after the break"...I thinking WTF is this? Then there were ads!
Maybe they want to get the $ to bid for the A-League and other stuff in the future.

I don't see what the big problem is. 5 minutes per hour!!! That is nothing. I think Australian FTA TV needs SBS - and this little extra revenue will help to ensure their survival.

Don't be surprised. That bitch that works for the Government - Helen Coonan, floated some bullsh|te about ABC should show ads so the government doesn't have to fund the ABC.

Not a frieking clue.:thumbsd:

Three seperate ad breaks last night during OZ. ( What a great show.) I'd seen it before with Mythbusters & South Park, but OZ was a first.

Yes, it's appalling.

The person who made that decisiion should be dragged into that little storeroom in the mailroom with the Aryrans.

I don't have a problem with ads on SBS.It was just a suprise seeing them during shows.At least they're short breaks,unlike ads on ch7,9 & 10.

Barely even noticed the ads during Oz last night. They are over pretty much before they have started.

I'm a bit dissapointed but, if it means that SBS has more budget to spend on programming, I can live with the ads.
