Rodan will be a midfielder/onballer. He looks good but must improve his kicking. It was terrible.

I think he will be an onball player. I haven't seen enough of his kicking yet to say it needs improvement or not. I do remember him mis-kicking it once but that may not be a true indication of his skill level but more a fact that he was rushing things a bit because he is not used to the pace of the game at the top level just yet.

Hiya CJH, OMH, RR.

Rodan will be great :)

Yes Chris he did spray a couple but I don't think it's a permanent problem. As OMH has said...once he settles. Richo is going to be hit in the hands by the sherrin laces out with exciting regularity. And any he drop will be snaffled by Andy Krakeour.

Question : Could Pettifer play midfield or is he only a small forward ? If the latter is true then his opportunities at richmond may be few.

Pettifer is a class act. I will be sorely disappointed if he doesn't move into the midfield - this is a must, though won't happen on a permanent basis until at least next year once his fitness is up to scratch.

We do have a poor history of consigning players to be permanent small forwards when the midfield is the better option - Justin Murphy springs to mind!

He should start off in the forward pocket just to let him get used to AFL level, gradually give him bigger roles and moove him into the midfield

Really like the look of this guy. Very small in stature, but is a ball-magnet! Expect big things from him in and around the midfield, possibly going forward (although Kracqueur sp. (?), Pettifer, Fiora and co may limit his options forward)

Will be a good game on Saturday night, Go Port!

His got good skills don't worry about that you don't win two Morish Medals with out it.

His kinking is excellent. Look forward to his career unfold.

A quick libberatore in the making. Just doesn't stop chasing the pil.

I played with Dave Rodan for 3 years at Oak Park. He's a fantastic player and a brilliant clubman. He'll be a great addition to the Tigers, i wish him the best of luck.

I think he should play in defence at first. He'll make a good on-baller in the future but he played his best footy last year for Calder as a small defender/midfielder.

On his small performance in the Wizard Wok, turned the game for us, has to start in the mid field and have way more game time then he is getting.
you can be overly cautious easing rookies in to the game, but this kid really looks ready and has been what our mid feilds lacking.

As for his height of 171cm his still taller than Brent Harvey at north.

Only seen him in GF and showed more then enough to suggest
heaps of potential.
In the middle.

Looked alright. Had some good touches toward the end of the game. Has he got the fitness to run out a whole game? Looks a little lardy to me.
I'd start him on the bench and use him in bursts.

PUT HIM IN THE GOD DAMN MIDDLE FRAWLEY.
It is time for him to be in the middle. Even if we have to carry him for a few weeks. He will step up to it, like he has with everything else he has been asked.

He looks good but be wary, not many small unathletic midfielders make it in the end.

His career up to date is reminiscent of Tim Finnochiaro, Timmy was an outstanding footballer, but was small and a little unathletic.

He was a highly praised junior footballer (captained Victoria, All-Australian twice, dual Larke medalist etc.) but really struggled at the top level because coaches preferred the 6 foot 4 Kouta types.

I hope it works out better for David then it did for Timmy.

Pettifer won't make it until he goes a little harder, he is quite soft atm.

He has undoubted talent but rival clubs can easily put him off his game by getting a little physical.

He had one of the best results from the Draft camp. I would not call him unathletic. Quickest over 20m and the 3 kilometer run. He has football smarts and is a true rover. Can Tackle, handball, kick ETC..........
Has one TWO I say it AGAIN 2 Morrish medals for best and fairest in the best junior football competition, the Under 18 competition. He would have had the best Tagger on him each week in that comp for two years and still won two I say it again 2 Morrish medals. He has the goods. Could have made it last year.

I know nut has corrected you, but I'm going to do it again! :D

I will pay the comment on him being small - he's only 171 cms, about the same height as Peter Bell or Brent Harvey - but no way is he unatheletic.

At the 2001 Draft Camp, he was the quickest player over distances of 5 - 40 metres plus having huge endurance abilities.

Watch his second goal again from Friday - from a standing start he literally ran around M Johnson, leaving him flounderin in his wake.

This boy is deadset quick!

Quite probably a fair comment. He is probably 5 - 10 kgs lighter than is good for him - once he develops his body to the mark, he will be a lot better.

To add another point to that back in the first round he came from nowhere to run down Leon Davis.

Yeah all of the above , and he needs to be given a red hot go in the middle, translates to more game time.
Has plenty of ability could be like Greg Williams with pace.
Runs hard,Chases, tackles, hits hard ,scores goals HELLO ?
This is whats been missing, we need him.

Since when does 'unathletic' equate to 'slow'?

What exactly do you mean by 'unathletic' then?

If you read my original post i compared David Rodan with the athleticism of the Anthony Koutafides type of player.

Athletic means "physically strong and active", why you drew the conclusion that unathletic equates to slow is beyond me.

I understand where your coming from Phatandphreaky, but it all comes down to height is what your saying.

Rodan will run hard all day, is dead set quick and has got a huge verticle leap on him which compensates on his lack of height.

Kouta is a machine in terms of physical atrributes and is called an 'athlete', but just because Dave is only 171cm doesn't discount him as one also.

Watched him a few times last year and still can't believe we got him at pick 33, what a bargain, will be better than most who went before him!

He should be in the midfield, full stop. His roving capabilities, quickness, agility and physicallity should make him a cert to be the future centreman of the RFC.

As for Kayne Pettifer, as CJH has said (he is one of your favorites CJH thats for sure) he is all class. The only query is his physicallity, but his endurance is good, skills are excellent and why the hell isn't he in the team at the moment!!!!!

I have a dream.............That one day they will start this boy in the middle. What does he have to do to get in there. Please Danny if you read this please do the side a favour and put The Hoover in the middle where he belongs. The sheer pressure he puts on ball carriers is enough for him to earn his spot in there.

Be patient, he'll become part of thre midfield rotation this year, no doubt about it. In fact he spent a little time there on Sat.

Like Shaun said be patient his time will come, but hopefully he can get a Rising Star nomination because I reckon he might be half a chance. Judd for the eagles though is probably a favourite at this stage.

Just watched a replay of TigerTV Rodan was on. I think he is Brownlow material. Early call but atleast I can say I was the first.
And before anyone else tries to beat me I think he will be a multiple winner. 1?2?3?4..... who knows how many he will win.
Does anyone know a bookie that I could gets some odds with?
