Essendon remains hopeful the AFL will allow it to retain Adam Ramanauskas on its playing list in 2007. Essendon has written to the AFL commission requesting it be allowed to retain Ramanauskas on the playing list in lieu of a mature-aged rookie while he undergoes chemotherapy.
"It is something we will work through with the AFL. While it is trade week, our first list lodgement isn’t until the end of this month, so we have plenty of time to work out the fairest way to deal with what is a sensitive and unique situation," Essendon chief executive Peter Jackson said.
"The AFL understand the issue and I think we have made a reasonable case to keep Adam on the list but in a different capacity. We want to retain him on our playing list in lieu of a mature-aged rookie and should his current treatment enable him to play on then we would promote him as any other club would with a rookie-listed player.
"We have had initial discussions with the AFL with regards our request. We haven’t finalised what is going to be the best way to handle this but I am sure we will reach a fair and reasonable outcome."
"This proposal was initiated by Essendon. The AFL commission may believe an alternative arrangement is more suitable and we will address that if and when we need to." (efc)
Hmmm,
the AFL wouldn't even let the club wear the yellow arm bands for Rama earlier in the season.
Hopefully they do allow Essendon to keep him on the list,
I would love to see him back out on the field in the future.
