Just a question... sorry if it has come up before...

But can hawthorn, in part of a deal, downgrade their 3rd round pick for, lets say syds, to make an offer more attractive. And still use their new 3rd rounder on F/S???

So Sydney get a better pick by about 10 places, and Hawthorn use their downgraded pick on the same player

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure we cant. I'm almost certain that the rules stipulate that a teams original 3rd round pick needs to be used, or in the instance that it may be traded, the 2nd round pick must be used ... and so on.

I'm not doubting Pelchen and co. ofcourse, but I hope they know about this rule. :o

Yeh, i've never seen it happen before, i surely cant be the bright spark among the lot of us... the sensible conclusion would be that its against the rules.

Im 100% sure you cant, essendon did some trading last year and ended up with two third round picks and had to use their OWN pick on Jay Neagle. If there are any loop holes Chris would have found them already.

You use your 3rd round pick or better for F/S - not anyone elses.

I thought you could, as of this year. If i've got the question right.

Hawthorn could swap player + pick 6 (first round pick) for Carlton's pick 1.

Pretty sure that's on now.

Yeah you can do that. The question is just about Father Son selections. You can only use your teams allocated third round pick for Father Son. If we wanted to make two Father Son selections we would have to use a round 3 and round 2 pick minimum to get those players. We couldn't trade another team for their 3rd round pick and use it for Father Son.
