A few things....

a) I wish we were playing on ANZAC day or Queens Birthday against but there is more chance we will win the premiership next year
b) We play 4 games in Tasmania
c) Our remaining 7 home games will be at the MCG

From what I can tell the only information on our draw next year is that;

. We will play 7 home games at the MCG
. We will play 4 home games in Tasmania
. We will play 4 away games at the MCG
. We are playing 5 games 'interstate' - including a trip to the GABBA
. We are playing 2 away games at the Dome

'MCG clubs' - Melbourne, Collingwood, Richmond.
'TD clubs' - St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Essendon, Carlton, Kangaroos* (from what I could gather from their 2006 fixture).
Then there's Geelong, who play home games at both grounds sometimes.

Is there a written guarantee all your Melbourne home games will be at the MCG? I believe that's part of the AFL-HFC-Tas deal (?).

Is there a written agreement guaranteeing you a certain number of away games either in Melbourne/against particular sides/at the MCG?

I don't think so Scotty. I think it has been agreed to in principle, may not get exactly what we asked for but the league will try to compensate us the best they can.

Geelong I think are SS and TD.

You clearly have no idea do you  , Hawthorn has been an MCG tenant since leaving Waverley - check http://www.mcg.org.au/default.asp?pg=footballtenantclubs for more information.

The only difference between our previous agreement and this one is that we are now playing our non MCG home game fixtures in Tasmania instead of a selection of games at the Dome and in Tasmania - which was stupid to begin with.

From what I've been told the 7 MCG home games are in writting/very close to being signed off, but we are having trouble with the 4 away MCG games - we can't get assurance on getting 11+ every year.

If we do get 11+ games, to my understanding we will come close to being the 2nd most played team at the MCG - not bad all round really

Clearly. When discussing Hawthorn's away fixtures in Melbourne I most definitely should have included Hawthorn as one of the MCG clubs. The next Hawthorn vs Hawthorn clash should definitely be at the MCG.

As an MCG tenant, 7 home games at the MCG is more than fair. Hawthorn choosing to play 4 home matches in Tasmania makes more money for the club than playing at TD or vs interstate clubs at MCG, which is a clearly good thing from a HFC perspective.

However, if the agreement guaranteed Hawthorn will play away clashes against TD clubs (such as Dogs, Carlton) at the MCG regardless of those clubs input and/or stipulated that Hawthorn must play certain clubs at home (e.g. Port, WCE) every year then it should not be approved by the league.

Fair enough, I thought you were taking a cheap shot at us - I apologize for getting hostile :thumbsu:

You're probably right regarding the TD tenants, Carlton has a strange ground allocation deal - they are semi tenants of both the Dome and the MCG: 6/5, it was an Ian Collins conflict of interest 'master stroke' that went against the grain of most within the Carlton faithful - who in the majority wanted to become MCG tenants.

Likewise Essendon have an agreement to play 3 home games at the MCG - in reality this to compensate the MCC, who desperately didn't want to lose their 'cash cow' when Docklands came into operation.

The ground allocation in Melbourne is a mess and is sadly why Melbourne based clubs will always lag behind the WA and SA clubs both on and off the field.

Given the current climate the away games can be negotiated given the goodwill of the AFL - but that's a pretty big given unfortunately.

Personally I'd just like it if clubs could just allocate their home ground and stick to it.

you can thank Ian Collins or the deal

Now there's a sentence you won't find a Carlton fan saying.

Please AFL, don't make WCE go to Tassie, Canberra and Brisbane each year for the next few. Please.:)

West Coast have a pretty good draw in Melbourne these days, who knows in the next few years Victorian teams may ask to play West Coast at the MCG
