Whats the chance he will be picked up by an AFL side needing goal kickers ?
He just kicked 0ver 100 in VFL

He showed some very promising (raw) signs at West Coast. Very good contested mark, but his set shot kicking wasn't excellent (although kick 100 in the VFL may suggest that's not such a big problem).
Definitely worth at least a trial, just so long as it's at a victorian club.

Has tons of ability, but had the wrong attitude at the Eagles.Kicked 100 and won both awards I believe in the VFL so maybe he is realising his potential.Story is he was interviewed by the Kangaroos and is training with them pre season.

I watched him in a game for the Eagles at the MCG last year and he looked like a future superstar.

Must have run off the rails at some stage

It looks like north will pick him up in the PSD.

Dont understand why? you have thompson. you need quality midfielders to free Wells, Harvey and Grant up. though Harris aint bad

Seem to be throwing all our midfield eggs into Swallow and Jesse Smith at the moment. CHF is still a major concern but with a bit of luck we will get Gumbleton.

Our attack was pretty one dimensional last year so any longshot would probably be worth exploring

With Sav retiring we pretty much just have Thompson at FF, we have no real CHF and no real third tall option. Hale and McIntosh can go forward for periods but overall we need a couple of good forward options. With a bit of luck we will get Gumbleton who can play CHF but getting another youngish tall forward who can kick goals would be essential.

When you rebuild a side you really need to get the key position players first and then get the running players next as the KPPs take a lot longer to really develop and are much harder to find.

We have a fairly competitive midfield group, very few teams beat us in terms of clearances, contested possessions, etc. We just need a lot more quality in terms of run, carry and quality deliver inside 50. We haven't neglected the midfield, we added McConnell, Riggio and Swallow last year but I think we will turn over some more midfielder options via the rookie system and invest some 2nd/3rd round picks for a few years and try to dig out one or two top quality midfielders.

We also have a few injury prone midfielders who have a lot of potential, with a bit of luck they will have a good pre-season and avoid injuries, that would add a lot to the side.

problem with edwards is he's a leading forward and he's not a tall.

whether that will work with thompson next to him i don't know

i hope it does, i'm all for vfl listed players getting another shot.

good luck to him.

He'll be a pick 75-80 in the National Draft at best

He is what the Americans would refer to as a tweener. He is between a flanker and a KPP in that he has the skills and agility you would accept in a 193cm - 95kg+ KP forward but in the smaller package of a flanker (He is 184cm and probably 80kg).

He is a leading forward with pretty strong hands but with only average speed (i.e. not quick) and average agility.

He played one good AFL game and basically his entire contribution was before half time when he was a surprise and Wallet couldnt get the match up right. After that, and in subsequent games, he was found out as not quick enough or all round enough (not great defensive skills as a flank player) to play on the flanks and not big enough or quick enough to play out of the goal square.

He also made some questionable off field decisions and his work ethic was patchy.

Obviously, smaller marking forwards have had some success in the past but IMO while he could impact some games at AFL level, I dont reckon he could sustain a long term career as his deficiencies would have hime exploited by other teams and AFL sides have defenders with enough size and speed to shut him down.

His effort in the AFL reminds me of guys like Paul Medhurst who as an undersized forward led the WAFL goal-kicking at about age 19 or 20. Obviously at the next level he has had some success but is hardly a key or established player (and Medhurst is better than Edwards).

He played one outstanding quarter - the first - in his debut then faded out of the game somewhat. But couldn't follow it up with anything in his next three games, and we just didn't have anywhere to put him on the list, and couldn't keep him on the rookie list any longer.

Had Phil Matera retired early enough, we might have upgraded him for 2006, but probably not.

Good luck to him if he finds his way back onto an AFL list.
