I thought it might be interesting if we had a drafting game. My idea was to see who could draft the best team of 22 from all 100 Brisbane Lion players since 1997. The only rule i have so far is:

Each team is allowed to draft a maximum of 3 extra players who either played for the bears or Fitzroy (in the 90's). The rest of your 22 must be made from the 100 BL players. The 100 players to have represented the lions are:

1. Michael Voss
2. Justin Leppitsch
3. Nigel Lappin
4. Alastair Lynch
5. Jason Akermanis
6. Simon Black
7. Shaun Hart
8. Mal Michael

Reply to this thread if you are interested. Unfortunately, there is only room for 4 more teams, so be quick. If 5 more people really want to play, we will make it best 18. First in, best dressed. I will post the draft order when we have enough participants. Good luck. :thumbsu:

So how does it work? Do you take turns picking players? And how is the winner decided?

Not sure how the winner is decided as such. Maybe have a poll on the Den after the game has finished where everyone can vote for their favourite team?

Basically just works the same way as the draft, i.e it would go something like this:

First round (say there were 4 people):

Team 1
Team 2
Team 3
Team 4

Team 4
Team 3
Team 2
Team 1

Team 3
Team 1
Team 4
Team 2

Team 2
Team 4
Team 1
Team 3

Therefore, in each round you pick up 4 players, so there would be around 5 rounds. The order changes around a bit within the round to allow equality.

I'm open to any suggestions however to make it better.

And a team is one person. Is that right?

Now IMO (sorry to be pedantic) having pick 1 in round one is far more advantageous than have the last pick in round 2. I think you need some sort of tossing of the coin so to speak to decide what the team order is.

I presume that we are picking players based on when they were at their prime.

By the way - I'm in.

Obviously part of the skill (in terms of when the best side is being judged in the Den) is picking players for a team, so it's not necessarily just a matter of picking best available.

Correct.

The order i put was just one round (4 players per round). Each round is made up of 4 "mini-rounds". To make it fairer we could swap the mini-rounds around in the next round. (That made sense while i was typing it :D ). We will have to have a virtual toss of the coin to see who is which team.

I presume that we are picking players based on when they were at their prime.
Yep.

By the way - I'm in.
Good stuff. If we don't get at least 1 more player, we could postpone it to another night.

Obviously part of the skill (in terms of when the best side is being judged in the Den) is picking players for a team, so it's not necessarily just a matter of picking best available.
Exactly. Although you could do whatever you like, but the eventual winner will be judged on who has the best "team" (i.e. a team with 22 midfielders will not win).

The list provided is a list of Brisbane Lions players only. right?

You wouldn't know where I can get a list of the Bears and Fitzroy players who played in the 90s would you? Or is finding such a list part of the challenge?:p

Yeah that is just BL players. If you go to finalsiren.com there are team sheets from every year. I just made it players from the 90's so most people have seen them play.

Ashli we need another female to play to even it up (2 guys, 2 girls). Wanna give it a shot?

Ashli

I'm not all that much older. Don't worry too much about the bears, fitzroy players if you don't want too because you only get a maximum of 3, and you don't need to pick any of them.

www.footywire.com (http://www.footywire.com) gives you information on players' heights etc, and you are quite welcome to ask questions about the position certain players played (i'm not too sure myself with some of them looking at that list of 100 :o ).

So Warwick, toddy, Grimreepah, Ashli... are we all ready to play?

I've got a coin. What do you want Warwick, heads or tails?

Warwick

Tails

Grimreepah
12th October 2006, 22:24
Tails

Heads it is. I'll go first.

:D OK, never trust a man you can't see. How about i send a number to everyone's PM box and whoever gets the closest gets to pick which team they want (i.e. 1-4). The next closest can pick the next team etc, and ill have the team left over. If you want the draft order, have a look on the first page.

Just reply quickly if you have read this so i know you understand. We are playing a trust game  . DO NOT READ THE PRIVATE MESSAGE!!

Great pick up. I was hoping he would fall to be my ruckman. I may end up with Strawb in the ruck *shudders*.

OK, first round is over:
First round:
1. Grimreepah - Michael Voss
2. Warwick - Jonathon Brown

13. Warwick - Nathan Buckley
14. toddy - Chris Johnson

16. Ashli - Doc Clark

Some excellent pick-ups so far, and everyone's team is looking very strong. Ashli and Grim are going to have superb midfields, and toddy's strength is definately down back. Warwick is trying to win with the two massive towers up forward. Still plenty of quality around. The third and forth rounds are going to be where it is won or lost.

Grim has next pick...

Molloy could play anywhere in the forward line. I would play him in a FP, but potentially, he could hold down CHF in your team if you ran out of options.
