I have this amazing opportunity, which I don't think most of the people would appreciate - but you have to keep it hush, hush ;) :D

This is an interesting one. Why would some teams publically name players who they're after and then we have this .... mystery man ?
Are we scared someone else will nab him from under our noses ? Some sort of ploy by the AFC ? I think it will fall through. Skippy will be traded, that's it.

Depends when that fkg Tarrant deal gets done.
Skippy will get traded, barring accident, and good luck to the lad - he deserves to play each week.
3 teams have expressed interest in Jericho, and if the Tarrant deal goes off mid-morning, one of those 3 just might put an acceptable offer on the table.
Adelaide are very keen to get a forward KPP, even if its for depth in case of injury, so if Playfair is out there for trade or mystery man is a Schulz/Smith we will do the deal if the other party will as well and its reasonable.

I doubt Jericho would be traded. Only if someone offers a 2nd rounderl we will jump. We won't trade him for a 3rd rounder unless NC has a change of heart. Apparently 3 clubs interested- I believe one is Collingwood because he fits what they are looking for. Skippy is probably the only near certainty of going.

13 Oct 2006, 01:12
I reckon 2.
Skippy is a definite and either Jericho will get traded OR we will get a player in. One of them will get done and the other will fall through coz we run out of time.
I hope the mystery man is not Nick Smith. Hasn't played for 3 years at Melbourne except for 1 final where he was average. I don't think he'd improve our list at all, and I don't think he'd get a game barring a worse injury run than this year, which is pretty much impossible.
I'd be content if it was Playfair.
I'd be happy if it was Schulz.

If its Toby Thurstans, I'm not watching a game of AFL until he is delisted.
I'd book Skippy in for a trade. And I expect one of Jericho or mystery man to be traded as well. Knowing Fantasia, I'd be betting on the mystery man trade.

Farrrrrrk!! and to think that I believed the crap that Fantasia was espousing on the radio last night!!
The truth is that Fantasia has been played for a sucker by the Kangaroos who strung him out until it was too late to do anything else with Skippy. Now they'll pick him up for zilch in the PSD.
As for the mystery man?? Pffffft!!

I have to say that i'm not disappointed that we didn't trade a draft pick for him.
There's no way on earth this man would be our saviour, although he would be handy. But handy isn't good enough long term.
On the other hand, we would be still a chance to pick him up in the PSD for nothing, and if we did, that's the equivalent of using draft pick 80 on him.
My disappointment is the way that Fantasia & co got played for suckers in respect of Skippy and Jericho, by Nth Melbourne, Collingwood and all others who expressed interest.
James was virtually definite last night that we would be getting a draft pick for Skippy and there was still some chance with Jericho.
IMO, all that happened was that other clubs flushed these two out from James that they were up for trade, and then dangled a draft pick in front of his nose right until the death knock, withdrawing it at the last moment so that we couldn't go elsewhere, planning to pick them up in the PSD.
The Kangaroos didn't take part in any trades yet they said the delay was linked to other trades. Crap and bullsh it!!
Fanta should have given them a time limit to accept or the players would be off the table.
Amateurish effort there IMO. :thumbsd:

You can be a very good recruiting manager but does that make you the best trade negotiator?
Yes i agree we were "played" ....why trade a third round for Skippy when you can get him fpr as you say around the #70 equivalent in the PS draft.....hell even I saw that one ;)
IMO I think there will be a lot of tall choices in the PS draft ....is Patful the pick of them ...gee hard to get excited....very average

I have to say that i'm not disappointed that we didn't trade a draft pick for him.
I heard Reidy on the news and they stated that Joel wanted to come to Adelaide. Brisbane weren't willing to trade him for anything less than a first round draft pick. We offered our 3rd rnd pick for him. The thing I thought was funny was that Brisbane traded Aker for 2nd rounder, but want a 1st rounder for Patfull.
Apparently he will enter the PSD and we hope to pick him up then.

What does that tell you?? How could anyone possibly demand a 1st round draft pick for a player of the calibre of Patfull. Unless of course they totall disrepect the other party in the trade.
It worries me we were willing to offer a 3rd round pick for someone that was picked up in the rookie draft. We really have no idea.

Depends if they have a pick or he may price himself out of their reach. Also, he may only sign a one year contract and then try to leave next year. It'd be pretty sill for Brisbane to take him.

If it is true, then its quite clear that some clubs are there to just try to get a 'bargain' and nothing else which makes it difficult for clubs who are trying to take it seriously.

Thats the thing that astounded me. 12 months ago there were rumours flying around Adelaide how we are interested in Joel Patfull after a fantastic SANFL season. John Reid on 5AA got asked by KG if we would be interested in Joel and Reidy pretty much came straight out and said NO. He is not tall enough for a KPP and not quite good enough for a flanker. John Reid literally labeled him as the "in-between height".
12 months later we are after him and he is the "mystery man". Spare us all the bull**** please JR

I think Rodney Eade said it the best on SEN this week... According to him the most professional and reasonable clubs to deal with in the trade week are Adelaide, West Coast and Sydney, the rest, according to Rocket are there to boost their egos and be unreasonable.

I thought you guys might've had a crack at Schammer. There was a bit of talk he might've been looking to come home (but you know how it is with rumours), he'd probably be keen to play for Adelaide, Freo chasing Tarrant and Solomon could have been creating salary cap pressure, Freo trading themselves out of the first round of the draft could've opened a door. Just seemed there were a few factors there that if you put #14 on the table and really pushed you might just have been able to swing it. The guy can play and is ready to go from rd 1.

I don't mind Schammer as a player and think he has a lot of talent. I think that Craig would make him an even better player than he is already.
However mid-fielders are one thing our club can actually draft well. What we suffer from is a lack of KPP's, particularly a top class one up forward.
That's why our trading had to be directed at KPP's or nothing really.
