OK, Trade is done, Everitt is gone, pick 33 is in... lets move past Thornton, we will come across him again come PSD.
This is the superdraft and we are lucky enough to have one of the top 6 picks... who i can only assume will be used on Leuenberger or Thorpe.
We have already had two yrs of great picks and a third yr (with one of the above mentioned), pick 25, 33 and Kennedy)... Hawks are looking really good for another year of steady development!
I'm not making predictions yet... i wanna see more consistancy, and with another preseason into the Rougheads, Franklins, etc etc... we will hopefully be even better than last year.
But we must keep in mind... players such as Ellis, Dowler and Muston are essentially playing their first yr this yr... so lets look at them with excitment as they are likely to be our future, and not place unrequired pressure on them (Criticism on Dowler after 2 games is absurd!)
The other positive is without Everitt, Campbell will flourish, and big Max will get valuable game time and experience (though lets hope none of them will get injured, otherwise we will be stuffed!).
I'm super keen to see how our fwd line improve their functioning together... but i'm even more looking fwd to see how our backline goes. With Croad set in CHB, he should steady the ship... put Jacobs floating, and Zac/Gilham/Smith taking on FB will be interesting.
Cant wait til 2007

Is this the situation ?
Gorn - Barker, Spider
To come - Kennedy (pick 41)
Picks - definate selections - 6, 25, 33 (otherwise why trade for 33?)
At least 2 de-listings to come ? - 3 if we will go for thornton in PSD ?
Who is still uncontracted ?

Gone: Spider, Barker, Ball
Likely to be delisted: Miller, Boyle, Thurgood
Thats six gone.
With 4 players to come in from the draft and promote Gilham and then go for Thornton.

We'll definitely use Pick 56 and at least 2 in the PSD/Rookie Draft combined.
So we'll need to free up space for 7 prospective new players.
Gone:
Barker
Spida
Delist:
Ball (already gone)
Reis
Kane
Markovic
Miller
Boyle
Brennan
Elevate:
Gilham
McGlynn
McEntee

I agree, no way we will promote three rookies. We shoud promote Gilham, re rookie list McEntee and drop Markovic, McGlynn (got guts but thats all) and Kane (actually like him but had plenty of time to earn spot and has not. We need 6 delistings for picks 6, 24, 33, Kennedy, Gilham and PSD selection at minimum and I reckon maybe 1 more. 56 may still present a decent player. Barker, Everitt and Ball are gone already. We need 3 or 4 more to go and I think they will be-
Ries (competing against Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell and Lewis for games, had time.)
Thurgood (brave boy, but not a KPP so really has no spot to play, especially with the emergence of Birchall)
Tim Boyle (Had high hopes early but they have dwindled, Roughie, Buddy, Croad, Jacobs, Dowler, Gilham and even Dawson are ahead of him. Would favour Murphy outsized in KP ahead of Boyle too.)
Harry Miller / Matthew Little / Luke Brennan (Miller is erratic but plays a position - crumbing forward - we desperately need filled. Little appears to be a one trick pony as a leading mid forward, does he have a contract? I like Brennan and he probably deserves another chance but he desperately needs to work out a position to play, I love his aggression, he marks well and tackles hard I would love to see him tried on HFF playing a Hamill role.)

I have a question.
Why isn't Boyle being given his chance to cut it at full back ?

I had high hopes for Boyle, but he seemed to drop out of the side at one stage and then come back with more weight/muscle and not look as versatile. Geuss that break really downed he's career.
Thurgood is ugly and just to skinny.
Miller has great pace but just forgets the ball to much. Very inconsistent. Usually Aboriginals would've come along by now, playing that position.
Brennan is a tough one. I was really excited about picking him up..think it was around pick 7. Has shown glimpses but never really imposed himself on the game. cant find a position to play. If he doe's stay in the team I'd think he wouldnt be upforward.
Also, Do you guys think Ben Hart would be a worthy choice in the PSD? I think he'd be great across halfback and some good experience for birchall ect..
Good post Smiggs Pig. I agree with your thought on the potential delistings.
I'd say delist Thurgood, to add to Ball, Barker, Everitt
Promote Gilham.
That would mean one or two more to go (Out of Miller, Ries, Boyle, Little and maybe even Smith!?). Personally I'd let Ries and Little go, give the others one more year.
Picks 6,24,33, Kennedy (+ either 56 or PSD).
For the rookies - keep McEntee and Markovic. Drop Kane. Maybe pick McGlynn again at the end of the rookie draft, just wait see who else is still available.

Delist Smith and Little and grab the Clokes in PSD. It all makes sense now..

Delisting Smith would be a tough call and I wouldn't do it. He is so versatile as he can take talls (with mixed success) and smalls. But it is very difficult to find a spot for him as many youngsters are fighting for similar spots and Ozzie returning.
I have a question.

I really have no idea, when he arrived at the club I remember him being a backman. Maybe the break ruined his mobility a little. He could be a CHB, FB am not so sure, he could have the build to take power forwards at CHB, which we desperately need, which could free Croad to CHF where I believe he belongs and in the long term allow Franklin, Roughhead and Dowler all to play forward.
