Browny - "Golden Brown" (Stranglers)
don't like this one, did you know the song was all about drug use - heroine specifically.
Much Better is Johnny Cash's Big Bad John provided you don't take into account the end of the song.
Big John
Big John
Every mornning at the mine, you could see him arrive.
He stood 6 foot 6, weighed 245.
Kind of broad at the shoulders, narrow at the hip.
And everybody knew you didn't give no lip to Big John.

Yeah I heard Golden Brown was about drug use but it's such a gorgeous song you can really interpret it anyway you like. If you look at many of The Beatles later songs many are drug related.
Speaking of the fabs..

D:REAM - Things can only get better.

Yeah but unfortunately, there are a lot of songs I like that have dark meanings. One of my favourite songs as a kid was Lola by The Kinks - do you think I knew Lola's little secret?....not even
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola" gave me any idea!
Nick Riewoldt - "Better Be Home Soon" (Crowded House)

Amazing that some still believe that song is about a childs painting and the beatles were clueless about the initials.
Yeah right.

Interesting article.
But I still believe they knew what they were doing. I'm sure the painting story is real but it probably gave them the idea. It just seems odd that the group could spend months with the song around, working on it,writing it,recording it etc and not notice when john in particular was drinking the stuff.
The whole 'paul is dead' thing was also orchestrated by the beatles with all the various clues but they denied that also.
Some things are just beyond coincidence.
