There seems to be a lot more Hawk fans posting on these Boards every day (which is great news), so why not set up an Introductory thread for new posters to acquaint themselves with others?
The 'older' fans need not participate (;)), but it'd be nice if everyone can just give a liiiiiiittle introduction about themselves!
I'll kick us off,
I'm a student who has lived in NSW for the past 8 years - before which I lived in the 'happy' Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn!
I've been an 'official' member for 6 years now, but truth me told, I forgot to renew after coming up to Sydney so my scarf tradition went down the drain. :p
If I had to chose a favourite player from the current batch of Hawk stars, i'd opt for none other than,

Good Idea...
Well i'm a Commerce Uni Student.... live in Vic and have followed Hawks all my life... though have been put my hand in my pocket and been a memeber for 3 yrs now. DEFINATELY going on 4.
My favourite player had always been Jon Hay... now i have none, as though have a much larger interest in the youth that we have brought in over the last 2 yrs under the AC rein. Looking fwd to seeing them develope. Want to see Crawf with a premiership cup... and Buckley with none.
Am extremely loyal to hawthorn, and if anyone puts a negative spin on the club/hawk player, i may tear their throat out! ;)
I am also a HUGE fan of AC, and think he has done a fantastic job. If he is not the greatest coach (which i think it is too early to tell)... he at least deserves the post as he has given us fans something to smile about

I am a Dj/Pastry Chef Apprentice, living in Melbourne. My dad turned me into a Hawk supporter when I was 4 or 5 I'm now 20 and been a member for the last 12 years.
Johny hay was also my favoutite player in his prime but since he's gone Cambell Brown has since taken over. I'd sell my soul to see the Hawks win a premiership in my lifetime.

Am I to be considered an 'older' member?
I joined early in the season. I'm 36 in 9 days, and (I know this is blasphemy) I actually started barracking for the Dons as a kid, since my family was all Dons. Peer pressure got to me in 1978, and I changed, as a 7 year old, when my best friend at Primary School converted me. Winning the flag that year helped too!
Have been a loyal Hawk fanatic ever since....lived thru the 80s, went to most of those Grannies, the most memorable of course being '89. Watched Dermott running back to the Forward Pocket chundering his guts up. At that point I thought to myself 'uh-oh, we could be in trouble here.' We were, but we still finished ahead!!!
Obviously the 80s was simply the greatest time to be alive and an avid Hawks fan. I cherish those days, and long for them again. Am hopeful and optimistic we can achieve success again, maybe not to THAT extent (I don't think ANYONE will), but I can see finals and a flag in the next 4-5 years.
Beyond that, I love music even more than Footy (if that's even possible), and play in an original Rock n Roll band that's just about to release it's debut album. I'm about to leave my job (which feels as good or better than seeing the Hawks win Flags!!!) and become fully self employed.
That's enough ramble from me......

That's an excellent read Roddy. I really wish sometimes that I was alive during the early 80's just so I could watch our team in the Grand Final.
I remember my parents telling me how back then, they actually couldn't make it to a Grand Final one year, but justified it with the knowledge that 'We'll be able to see them in the Grand Final anyway next year". :p

ok, im 17, and i just finished xavier college yesterday and exams start in a week and a bit.
dad is such a passionate hawthorn man that it was either u followed hawthorn or lived on the street - but now i am absolutely over the moon that i chose the right club.
i've been a member since i was 3 or 4, and used to love the days at waverley on the wing, but now i love the games at the G. i havent been a bigfooty member for long, but i like the idea of it.
like any other member i love hodgey, and always have to defend him against judd at school. i also love crawf and buddy and roughie and lewis and mitchell and murphy and willo and dixon and campbell and smith and birch and brown and sewell and jacobs and taylor and muston and ellis and little and gilham and kennedy and dowler and croady and vanders and big max and big al and todd and anyone else involved at hawthorn.
yesterday i got j kennedy's signature on my school shirt which is awesome.
the 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 on my name are the years when we will win our premierships.
i managed to get to 12 games this year including 1 in tassie against richmond and i dont mind the fact that we lost most of them, because that will just make the times when we are a good team a lot better.
go the hawks!

Hi guys
I was born in Hong Kong and lived in Melbourne for a quite a few years since landing in Australia JUST DAYS AFTER the 89 grand final (god-dammmmmit!).
Chose to support Hawthorn incidentally, in 91, interestingly because I found the club colours appealing (no Freudian swipes, please ;) )
Luckily I managed to catch our '91 flag...
Was never a huge football fan in my youth though, preferring Cricket over footy. Until around the time I moved back to HK (2004), after I finished my two degrees at UniMelb and got a job at some Big 4 slave driving accounting firm as a tax consultant. Gave that away after 2 years after deciding that I was no blo0dy good at accounting and I hated it.. work hours are long, the $ is okay but my balance of life is more important... goddammit i missed the GF because of work!!! Now I am working in the finance dept of that 'Pentium Inside' company... with enough spare time to hit the gym daily and get my body up to AFL standard...lol :D
Now that Spida is gone, I can say I love all my hawks, with my favourite players being: Timmy Clarke, Sewell, Browny, Mitch, Crawf and Hodge... and I just love watching buddy take games apart. Hope that he does it more often!!!
I intend to live a long life, so I expect to see at least 3 to 4 Hawk dynasties... hoping that the next one comes around the '09 - '12 mark :thumbsu:

Hello all. Smitchell here.
29 years old. I'm a Film student (done business) at uni really enjoying the creative, free lifestyle (awesome for catching live sporting events if anything.I recommend it).
I'm a qualified chef who recently started picking up part time chef work again ( not awesome for catching live sporting events!) because the only downside to the 'creative, free lifestyle' is having absolutely no scratch.
So little money in fact that i haven't been able to afford interstate memberships for two seasons. Also stuffing up my season numbers on my scarf.
I first joined in '99 and have a really strong sense of loyalty to the brown and gold, sometimes to the point where I have to remind myself that I'm 29 and really should take down my Dunstall shrine, and that I really have to stop getting excited like a five year old when i walk into a card shop to see if there are any cheap Hawks stuff.
I live in Joondalup, which is in Perth's northern suburbs. I love Perth, but am going to Melbourne twice and Tassie next year just to see the Hawks (It'll be my first time, so let me know what i have to do. Cheers ;) )
Don't know a huge number of WA hawks, and none are close friends so I really appreciate big footy.
A few of my interests
Sport - Hawks,Jason Dunstall-my hero, NBA-New Jersey Nets(Jason Kidd) Mark Ricciuto-my favourite player along with Dunstall since '94, NFL, Aussie Cricket team,Perth Wildcats (Andrew Vlahov is a DI*KHEAD, so glad Jack Bendat bought the club so he has final say!),Force, Wallabys, Glory.
Personal
Film- Want a career in it. Love the complexity and creativity of the whole process.Could go on and on about films, directors forever but won't.
Television- Some truly remarkable TV shows and documentries out there. I love HBO (home box office), they revolutionized TV. Sopranos(best ever!), Deadwood,Six feet under,Entourage to name but a few.
Arrested development, Scrubs, Huff, Viva La Bam, Family guy (if you've been watching since first episode, let's talk)American dad. I could go and on.
Music
Pantera is my favourite band ever from back in the day but still love them to this day. Saw them live in '94, '96, '00. If anyone likes them and saw VH1's Pantera:behind the band, wow, the lyrics to the songs make so much sense.
Best bands these days are Queens of the stone age and Kings of Leon IMO. But I listen to and love an eclectic range of music, one of my driving forces behind my film degree.
Holy SH*T, I totally got carried away, sorry for the long post

To people like ralph and smitchell who are able to keep 'up the faith' from as far reaching places as Perth and Hong Kong - I tip my hat to you. ;)
To hodge9101112, it's also good to see fans like you - who also seemingly are in contact with our future players ;) - come through as well! :D

I'm 26 years old and have been a supporter since I can remember, Dad told me he went for them and that was enough for me. He is not really that passionate about it.
I've got 5 sisters and they all go for Collingwood. Mum goes for Geelong. She's lucky I was younger than 10 during the 80's otherwise I would have got stuck in. She probably wouldn't have cared that much anyways.
I work at one of the big Banks in IT, fell into it after school but haven't found what I really want to do with my life. Boring as hell but the pay is way too much to walk away from.
Born in Melbourne moved to Mildura (NW Victoria) when I was 8, family was originally from there, went to the Melb for the Melb Show caught the hype after we won the 89 but missed the 91 GF!
Being in Mildura it was hard to get to games I think I only got to 2 games. Moved back to Melbourne when I was 20 and have been catching games here and there, became a member for the first time last year, the 40 year scarf is my goal.
I grew up with most of my mates either going for Essendon or Hawthorn. What a rivalry, we haven't been so good against them in a long time and now the tables seem to have turned on that hopefully for our nine year stretch. Hate Essendon with a passion, more than I hate Ben Lee.
Interests
I love music, play guitar, banjo, harmonica and bass. I really love playing music but i'm not much chop. Haven't had much time to practice and play, just too busy.
Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, Paul Kelly, Beck, Ben Folds, Radiohead, Beth Orten, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Muddy Waters, Sun House, Miles Davis, Mia Dyson, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Johnny Cash, Cat Stevens, Josh Pyke, Elliott Smith, Elvis Costello.....I could go on, I'll listen to anything as long as it's not death metal, techno and Ben Lee.
Love my Hawks and can't wait for on field success, am wary of our future but I think it looks OK. Wanna see the full potential of these kids.

Looks like i am the old bugger here ,41 yrs old , live a good 3 hrs drive from Melbourne (worst case scenario depending on the traffic lights through Geelong)
Was told i had to support Hawthorn when i started primary school cause nobody else did , a decision i do not regret.
Have been a member since 94 when i recognised that things were not as rosy as some would have had us believe off the field , fought against the merger proposal tooth and nail.
Occupation wise - farmer / fat cattle breeder + cfa volunteer since i was 16 ( cfa crash test dummy - official title ) have just got home from chasing a reported lighting strike , so don't light fires people you never know who'll arrive at your door .

Howdy,
I'm 28yr old football tragic that is loving watching the Hawks group develop under Clarkson.
I dont live far from Waverley so I go down to training a fair bit (it's great if you can make it), I've got 2 kids under 2 which keeps me quite busy.
I'm excited by the list Clarkson has put together, it is going to be very competitive to get a game for the Hawks in 2007, which is good news for the fans.
I'll post a few stories from pre season training when it gets under way.

G'day, Im 17 and currently finishing year 12 at a small school in Darwin.
Ive been a Hawk fan for all of my short life and since then I have succesfully converted my younger sister and my mother into supporting the hawks, and subscribing for a membership.
Ive only watched one Hawk game in my life, and unfortunatly living in Darwin I dont ever get to see the boys play. Fingers crossed Dogs continue their deal up here, and Hawks get a game in Darwin.
Im a passionate supportor, Im that traditional footy fan who you will catch screaming at the television even when he is alone if Hawthorn are playing wrong.
I swear I am the best Couch Coach in history!!!
Im confident in the way Hawthorn is going but we still have many holes to fill and we basically have to hope for a very solid draft consisting of at least 2 Key Position players, and pacey midfielders!
My favourite players are: Roughie, Franklin, Clarke, Crawf, Sewell and Changa, practicly the whole team lol.
Carn The Hawks!!

Hi, I'm 15 and from the mornington peninsula. Obviously im a student.
I went to my 1st hawks game about 8 years ago (we beat geelong by 2 points).
I'm a pretty passionate supporter, if we are winning I am overly excited and if we play badly I get really annoyed.
Anyway the hawks are awesome and I can't wait to see how we go in the next few years.
My favourite players are: Crawf, Buddy, Brown, Mitchell and Hodgy

Another cool off season thread....should be a sticky. Always wonder who is behind the words.
About me, I am 28, born and bred in Bendigo, central Victoria. Been a Hawk supporter since I was 4 and chose those classic colours out of all of them!!! Loved the eighties, just rue the fact that I was too young to have a few bourbons (wild turkey is the preferred option) to a Hawthorn Grand Final. But hey, I will make up for it over the next 5 or 6 years??? I practically love the whole team, but geez, can't go past Mitchell for guts and determination, not only is he near elite, he came through Box Hill after being overlooked by everyone. And for sheer excitement, Buddy Franklin is my man!! Soft spot for hard nuts Brown, Sewell and Hodge. And Crawf deserves our respect forever!!!!!
Aside from that, I play Indoor Soccer(but am not a big fan of real soccer), work as a furniture salesman/storeman, love a drink. I am Caucasian, and don't believe in any god!!!!
My main interest along with Hawthorn is music. I play guitar and sing, and have a massive thirst for extreme metal. By this, I mean NOT Korn, Cradle of Filth, Slipknot, blah blah blah.
I love KISS, Judas Priest, Metallica, Slayer etc, and that evolved to death/black metal. Bands such as Darkthrone, Morbid Angel and Emperor would be a good starting point.
I play in a band called DESTRUKTOR. We have played in Melbourne a few times (green room, the tote, the esplanade), Adelaide and Sydney. Our music is some of the most intense and raging you will hear!! We have a couple of releases available, and our Nuclear Storm Vinyl will be released through an American label on October 20th.
Those curious, or keen to hear us should go to www.destruktor.cjb.net or better, www.myspace.com/destruktor666
Keep em coming boys.....Go HAWKS 07!!!

Hi, I'm 28, I work in global finance so am often up reading posts here at all times of the day and night, the last couple of years I haven't got to the footy as much, mainly because of uni and work. Can't really express how much I love Hawthorn, it's more a part of me. Don't really love any players in particular in the current team, except for Franklin, if you pull on the brown and gold guernsey then your a champ.
Why Hawthorn? Always had respect for them even when I didn't follow football that much, my family wasn't that sporty, my bros where more into surfing. Hawthorn are a very family orientated club and I have made lots of friends through the club. My 4 older brothers all support Hawthorn as well, I managed to get them all members at some point for a little while but I don't think they have the same passion as me.
I want the club to have success but not at the cost of what I love about Hawthorn.

Gday im 19 and have lived in the melbourne suburbs all my life and studying eng/com at the moment atmelbourne uni.
Im a very passionate/tragic hawk fan with the walls of my room stacked full of the posters of the hawk champs like lethal, dunstall, dermie, platts, knights, crawf, dipper and the like.
Ive been a hawthorn member since i was 8 (1995) when i saw my first game. I didnt sign up last year due to financial reasons but i'll be back on board as a member in 2007. Im a member of the MCC (dont think that doesnt mean im not passionate) i sit there and cheer on the boys from there and clap em on as them warm up around the boundary line. So obviously im in love the new deal for more games at the MCG. If you want to know who i am look for the massive 80's style hawk flag in the members section amonst all the bloody toorak toffs with their land rovers.
I barrack for the hawks because thats all i know and my family goes for them so i was born into the mighty hawks i guess and couldnt be happier. I also have a soft spot for the tigers so they would have to be my second team.
My favourite player would have to be hodgey/buddy cant split them, but am also becoming a massive fan of cambell, changa, browny, birch and murphy.
CARN the MIGHTY HAWKERS in 2007!!!!!!!!!!!

G'day Gentlement
I'm 32 and live in the Western Subrubs of Melbourne. Followed Hawthorn since 1983. At that time was following both Fitzroy and Hawthorn and decided 1983 Qualifying Final would determine who would be my sole team - thanks to Gary Pert for giving away the free kick and Richard Loveridge for scoring the goal.
Despite all the premierships - still my favourite game.
Work in the Financial Planning industry. Currently finishing off my Accounting degree (end of this year thankfully) which has been an ongoing saga since 1993.
Hopefully the HFC can move up the ladder over the next few years and really highlight the benefit of long-term planning versus trying a quick fix.:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

G'day Guys.
This is amos and I currently work and reside in Taiwan. I've been abroad for six years now. I'm 31.
A combination of afl.com.au streaming radio broadcasts, the Australia Network broadcasting five games a week on my big screen projector in the living room, 'theage' and 'heralsun' onlines and bigfooty has allowed me to pretty much stay on top of the afl and Hawthorn situations without being physically in the sports mecca of the world.
Favorite game, well, Hawthorn and Geelong played out two rippers in 1989, but the round six game was an absolute belter. I remember all the 88, 89 and 91 Grandfinals, but 86 has slipped my memory. So don't worry about anything you've missed before you were 13 guys, you'll lose it ;).
Fave Players - As a kid, I loved Leigh Mathews and one of my most cherished photos is a personalised letter from Lethal after I wrote him in 85. After Leigh retired, Russell Greene became my best. After that, it was Darren Prichard and I proudly wore number 18 in the under 19s once I moved to Melbourne. Finally, Darran Jarman. What a marval. After Jars, I never really had a favorite but Jordan Lewis and Hodgey and definately getting there.
And that's it.

That's fascinating amos - so he actually replied to your letter?! If you dont mind me asking, did he say anything in particular?
The only noteworthy footy memorabilia I have is a number of signed jerseys from Chris Langford (because I practically live next door to him) and a little message from Kevin Sheedy on a Sherrin. :thumbsu:

I remember looking up L. Mathews in the Melbourne phone book (I was in Grade 4ish), and somehow narrowed it down to the L.Mathews that lived at 6 Brolga Avenue, Croyden. It may have been that Leigh was recruited from Croyden perhaps, forget. Anyway, I was returned a letter from Leigh (sent from the Footy Club address) that just offered best wishes etc. Thanks to the Mathews guy who live on Brolga Avenue for forwarding the letter :D . What a thrill for a kid though, just as dad and my older bro were trying to entice me to the Blues

Hi fellow Hawkers,
I'm 41, live in Sunbury and work for Connex in Melbourne. I was born in Shepparton and moved down to Melbourne in 1983.
Apart from this year, I goal umpire in the RDFL. I have done it for 10 years, which has included 1 Snr, 5 Res (1 in Ballarat League) and 1 U18 Grand Finals. I actually enjoy it and usually have a chat with a few of the players during a game.
Before you all go crook at me, I don't support the umpires in the AFL, never have and never will. I agree with Philhawk about the best thing to happen in thre Grand Final. Actually by having umpired, I couldn't believe how much that maggot screwed us in the Prelim in 2001.
I was a member from '89 to '92, went every week, even a trip up to Carrara. Stopped going after we had our kids. I managed to get to the '91 Grand Final out at Waverley. Donated to Operation Payback in '96, I still shake my head and wonder how it nearly happened. A big thank you to Don Scott.
I have barracked for Hawthorn since I was about 4, can't remember much before that and I think the first game I went to was Round 1 in 1972 at Glenferrie Oval. That fateful day when Huddo had 8 to half time, then did his knee. Just as well I was only 7 and didn't fully understand what it meant at the time.
I have witnessed the magnificent 70's and 80's and hope that the future will see a return to those great days. I don't have a favourite player anymore, anyone who wears the Brown and Gold is a champ, the first number on my jumper was 5, Peter Crimmins. He typified courage, what a champ and I was devastated when Crimmo passed away just days after the '76 flag. Seeing Sam Mitchell in the striped back with 5 on the back brings back fond memories.
I have seen many champions in the Brown & Gold, too many to name, you all know who they are. My oldest daughter who is 13 shares my love for Hawthorn and I hope to go and see the Hawks with her a couple of times next year.
It is easy to follow a club when they're up, it has been tough for a while, but we will be rewarded soon (hopefully). True character in a supporter is shown during the tough times. No softies here, we all love the Hawks, win or lose.
I hope the squeals aren't too loud for you Phil.
All the best
Tony.
PS - couldn't think of a login name, so I picked Hawks and the first premiership year.

Hi
I'll keep mine short and sweet. 24, supported since I was 5, been a member on and off over the years but haven't been for the last couple. Will be signing up next year. Grew up in Talbot, which is country central Victoria and now living in Ballarat doing IT. Hate it, but it allows me to post on here regularly. Going back to Uni next year to finish off a teaching degree. I am one of few on here that actually play the game personally by the looks of it. I am one of the ones that whinges about having AFL games on Saturday as I dont get to see them. I coach footy up here and have played for a while.
Love the Hawks and I also dont mind going to the Dome as its only a short drive up the highway from here. Went on a footy trip to Hobart on the weekend, cold, backward place.... Will not be going back and will not be going to watch the Hawks there! haha.
Loved Dunstall as a kid!

Hi all,
I am a 24 year old teacher and I currently live in Narre Warren. I love the hawks and I have done since Jim Stynes ran through the mark in 1987 and my dad (a passionate and colourful Melbourne supporter) screamed at all Hawthorn players and decided that the Hawks were the team for me.
A year later I cracked my skull in GF week and was attended to by a Melbourne doctor and argued with him about who would win the GF, probably not a wise move to antagonise the man putting your head back together.
I love the draft and watching the young kids develop and I used to think I was knowledgable on these topics, but compared to a lot of blokes on here it appears I know practically nothing, especially on the draft. Love Big Footy and reading all your opinions, even those I disagree with, keep it up.

Hi All
I’ve been a Hawks supporter since my Mum help deliver Kelvin Moore's first child at the Frankston Hospital. She was able to pickup a letter signed by the great full back on the birth of his second child. Russell Green then taught at our school for a while (John Paul College) and he use to take my brother and I to his reserve games at the Saints before he moved on play the rest of his outstanding career with the Brown & Gold. Although I did play a few games with Frankston Rovers I did not get along very well at all with Dermie.
I now live up in Darwin after travelling the world for the last 25 years and have a family full of paid up, proud & passionate supports.
Cheers everyone and looking forward to picking up the berger from the draft.

hey fellow hawkers!!
i'm a newb to this forum, but it was great to read the news as it happened during trade week, that i couldn't resist but to join up and give my thots on the situation! :)
i'm 21, working full time for an IT company. I'm working for a client at the moment, so it can get busy but i always find time to log onto BF to get my dose of Hawks news! :D Been a hawks supporter for more than i can remember, and being a asian kid in a predominately white school, one couldn't help but be drawn into footy much like the other kids!
The first and ONLY game i've been to was way back in 95' when the hawks played the bombers at the G'. I remember that game vividly! :P i remember the likes of Ray Jenke and Simon Minton-Conell in that game (don't ask me why they were the ones i remember, i just did) :P we lost tho..that was a bit of a downer, but a great experience none the less!
I rekon there will be bright times ahead for the hawks!
keep up the good work guys! :D

40yrs old happily married ,three sons ,work in the oil and gas industry down Gippsland way for the big 'E' my workplace blew up a few years back forcing you guys in Melbourne to endure cold showers for two weeks.Been a Hawk supporter since i knew what football was mainly because i was intrigued whilst watching black and white television images of this guy with a big number 26 on his back kicking all these goals. The first ever game i attended was as a 10 yr old and it happened to be the 75'GF with my older brother. We didn't have tickets but my brother who is ten years older than me managed to purchase some the morning of the game in Young and Jacksons from this rather scantily clad woman who i realised later as grew into my teens must've been a hooker given her garb at that hour of the morning.Ticket scalper/prostitute ....she must've made a fortune, regardless the tickets were seats about five rows back from the goals at Punt Rd end ,perfect.Anyway we got absolutely pumped that day by North Melb but i would've given Knightsy B.O.G for sure ,his torpedo punts clearing from CHB seemed to travel the length of the ground.Loved the eighties lived in Frankston for a while and played myself with the Bombers down there and was a Dermott Brereton clone (my mullet was better and my hair color more natural.) Anyway i'll always love the hawks and i'm looking forward to the next few seasons even though the jury's still out on this Tassie Hawks B.S as far as i'm concerned. Thanks for the opportunitie to whoever started this thread ,hope i haven't bored anybody too much. cheers.

Hello Hawk Fans.
I am 39 and started following the Hawks in the mid 70’s. My heroes were Peter Hunson, Peter Knights and Leigh Mathews. The 80’s were a great time to be a Hawks supporter (so many great players). I had many winners’ beers, and formed a dislike for Essendon and Carlton. In the 90’s I hoped year after year that our young list would mature and a premiership might be won once again. Pretty well all these players have now retired, or have moved on.
Other than Crawford winning a brownlow, the best news I heard was that Clarkson (a non-hawthorn player) was appointed coach and that he dragged with him some new support team members. Clarkson has put his neck on the block sticking to his youth policy, putting Hawthorn’s future first. I have had a lot of good times with Hawthorn, however the past decade has been very disappointing, even though I have always been loyal and optimistic. I am pretty excited, as we have drafted well and I am looking forward to happy times soon.
Soon I will be changing my name from PatientHawk to KickingAssHawks :D
Thanks guys for all the threads you post.
I do alot of reading on this site, not much posting.

Hello all
47yo Hawk fan since I can remember. Mum & Dad took us (Sis & I) to Glenferrie every week the Hawks played and all MCG games as well. We used to sit in the "free" stand. Had to get there by half time in the reserves match to guarentee our seats which some lovely old dears used to keep for us by placing blankets down on the cold hard benches.
Have been lucky to see 4 Hawthorn GFs. 71,76,89 & 91. Will be there when we win 2008,2009,2010 flags :thumbsu:
Nowdays only live about 6 kms from Waverley Park and if the boss allows me (I work for myself so usually I do or can) I like to drop down and have a look at training.
Other times I work part time at Telstra Dome & Rod Laver (why not get paid to watch the best :D ) so my weekends are usually busy.
Good reading all the other intros and well done Phil for the concept.
Cheers

G'day fellow hawkers,
I'm probably the oldest hawk on the site. My first membership was way back in 1947 and I've been fortunate to see all our grand finals - most live.
Back in the forties and fifties were our real hard times. Losing game after game. When we beat St Kilda back in the early fifties, it was the same feeling as winning a premiership as it followed something like twenty odd losses on the trot. (Don't quote me as this's from memory.) Now we only bottom out, and don't consistantly win the spoon as we did in those days.
Fond memories of the great John Kennedy, Roy Simmonds, John O'Mahoney, 'Killer" Kane and morel at my home in Swinburne Avenue. John and my late father were friends.
To name the greatest Hawk ever is almost impossible. Although Mathews is a standout, there are others who were probably just as good. My favorite to watch was Peter Knights. I can't remember the year, but he just missed out on the Brownlow after missing about seven games. One of the best individual games was that of Brendon Edwards in the '61 grand final. His thirty odd possessions in today's game would be worth forty plus. There were no cheap handball receives then. Edwards is one player who would still star in today's game. He introduced super fitness to the game.
Watching Hudson and JD kick twelve or more goals on several occassions is also something to cherish.
Sorry I guess I got carried away.
For the past nine years I've been teaching American English at Burapha University in Thailand. It's too good an occupation to contemplate retirement. In my free time I have just completed my first novel, as yet unpublished.
There is a really bright future in store for us over the next decade, but we do need a lot of our highly rated youngsters to stand tall.
I enjoy reading all I can about my club, but I must say sometimes I get a little disappointed that some of our younger fans get hooked by trolls on our board.

G'day true blue fellow Hawkers!
I'm 24, backpacking the world (so far UK, Dublin, Germany, Poland, Turkey) currently living in London see what happens with work if they offer me a promo I'll stay longer lol. Its a mobile phone call centre job (yuk!)
I have been a Hawks fan since I was big enough to speak, it is indeed a family tradition. My Aunt actually got married on a Sat arvo during a HFC game and my Grandpa protested that he wouldn't allow it on that day..eventually gave in but listened to the radio in the church (lol). Given it had been paid for and all. Dad took me in my Hawthorn gear to Auskick (Vickick back then) and when he didn't have work to do he would take me to games or atleast we would have a kick.
When I lived in Jakarta with family when I was on hols in Melbourne my Pa and Uncle used to take me. It must have been about 95 and we were playing the Blues at Waverley, my uncle was joking we shouldn't go coz we would get whipped and we ended up whipping them! Ok I've been overseas a fair bit including stints in London, Jakarta and Dublin introducing all and sundry to AFL and Hawthorn (those that will listen) and will be at the London game tomoz!
I love my Hawks like the rest of the family and have volunteered about 9yrs or so all up with them ranging from helping with membership, events to Box Hill stats. Heck I want to start up a HFC supporters group here in London lol!
I admit I have a disease called the Hawthorn flu that just won't go away and there is no known cure...but I could think of worse things to have lol.
I have a sport management and marketing degree, like cricket, tennis, actually any sport almost, love travel, photography.
Currently single and as my Dad stipulated to my Mum, I'm only going to marry you if you convert to Hawthorn, same rules apply to me lol. There won't be any doubt as to the club membership my kids get!!
Well thats about it from me....'ask what you can do for the club, not what the club can do for you' and get down to Hawthorn and help the boys out.
Go Hawks 2007!!
Cheers

I agree ThaiHawk, Knights was an absolute star & my 4th best hawk player I have seen.
The year he first missed the brownlow was 1976. He missed by a vote to Graham Moss after missing the last 7 games with a broken collarbone.
He also came second to Blight in 78.
The pain was eased by the fact that both years he played in winning premierships.

Not just that:
- We beat North in 2 finals in the 70's
- Beat Essendon & the blues in the 80's & have a better record over the last 25 years which they hate
- Absolutely slaughtered the demons in the 88 GF - Gary Lyon still bears the scars :)
- Stopped the cats only real chance of a flag in over 40 years
- Beat WC in their first GF - some WC supporters still carn't believe they lost
- Magpies record doesn't even come near ours & we have more recent Flag
- & every team is scared of us because they can now see us starting to rise again to become a force

No, it's supporter arrogance.
For some bizarre reason, it seems to be solely embodied by the Hawk fans on BigFooty? Bay 13 should really be called 'Waverley Park'.

No, it's supporter arrogance.
I dont think its aarogance but more of fans believing 100% that our rebuilding will lead to a premiership. There are many queries on our team, and I think we wont make finals this year, and we wont untill we find a decent option at full back OR Dowler, Roughie, Franklin are permanent and solid contributors in the forward line with Willow.

For some bizarre reason, it seems to be solely embodied by the Hawk fans on BigFooty? Bay 13 should really be called 'Waverley Park'.Well, that's what I was referring to, Phil (On BF I mean). Now, Bay 13, well I've never been there, but judging from what I've seen on the polls and main boards, I'm tipping we'll be being fired upon from all directions. Is that further evidence as to how we're perceived?
I dont think its aarogance but more of fans believing 100% that our rebuilding will lead to a premiership. There are many queries on our team, and I think we wont make finals this year, and we wont untill we find a decent option at full back OR Dowler, Roughie, Franklin are permanent and solid contributors in the forward line with Willow.Well I've seen very few posts on BF by Hawthorn supporters starting with, "I believe ...", Roughie. But yes, we are looked upon as a supporter group that is too far ahead of itself, but isn't that arrogance when it's written in an overly confident way? If I had time, I could find hundreds of posts on the main board talking up our prospects of a 2008/9 premiership yet at the same time laughing at Richmond for taking Tambling, and hanging it on the Roos for giving us two top twenties for Hay.
Anyway, I'm not trying to fight amongst my own, just pointing out what seems obvious to the people that want to open their eyes.

Good Evening fellow Hawks.
One of the best threads to date as it adds a bit of reality to the whole BF experience. Great reading too.
I'm a 33 yo working as a Finance/Business Analyst in the Hardware industry. Have been a Hawk member for the past 8 seasons and an MCC member for 18.
I was nominated for an MCC membership as a toddler and grew up watching Melbourne play at the G with my uncle and grandad (both mad demons and the only footy followers in the family). It wasn't until 1980 that I somehow converted to the Hawks (not sure if it was due to the fact I lived in Hawthorn or the primary school footy clinics that were held by Hawk champs).
My passion for the club ran so deep that I was awe struck when meeting Kelvin Matthews one afternoon at Dad's company function. I'll also never forget September training at Gleferrrie Oval in the 80's when Yabby would conduct end to end drills with the whole squad on that sardine-tin shaped ground. Langford would kick out to Buckenara in the centre who'd handball to a running Platten who'd only have to chip it 35m through the sticks - it just didn't look right but you knew in your heart that they were primed.
My first grand final attendance was in 1983 but I'll never forget 1989 when Dipper (god bless him) hacked out a loose ball to Dean Anderson who slotted home a goal, momentarily stemming the tide but it sent the biggest roar of pure emotion/delight/relief that I've ever heard - we were home.
Ok, enough reminiscing, those were the glory days and we were spoilt big time - no current day supporter can boast the amount of success we had in a decade.
Today we're building carefully for the future and hopefully for another dynasty similar to the 80's. The foundations are almost in place and I can see a lot of similarities in the team we have now to the team we had in 81/82.
Strap yoursleves in boys and enjoy the ride.
Go Hawkers!

The system here is totally confused.
The two daily papers are British English, with some American English thrown in.
When I started teaching here I was working for a British language school, but the pay with the Americans is much better.
My late mother was an English teacher back at a state school in Hawthorn, and I hear her gringe everytime I teach 'gotten'. However, I always teach the alternative for those students working for an English company,
None of my students (they're 90% adults and uni students) leave my class without a complete understanding of:

Suppose I should chip in here.
Picked the Hawks back in the mid 80s. My best friend came from a Hawk family and I wasn't really interested in following in my own families Carlton footsteps.
Didn't really take much notice of AFL growing up. I played Rugby League as a kid, and then played basketball through my teens.
Only when I turned 21 (now 25) that I really turned on my love for Hawthorn and my new girlfriend at the time and I became diehard fans and later members.
Because I'm a late comer to the diehard club, Ive never even seen Hawthorn play in a final. It's been a tough time to get on board, but I'm sure it'll pay dividends in the end.
The girl and I are no longer together, sadly... so now I'm forced to go to the football with mates who support the opposing team. I'm very passionate and very loud at the football, but I do stick to my no swearing policy as I believe that being a supporter of a family club means respecting end encouraging families to enjoy their day at the footy just as much as any beer swilling lardo.
Away from football, I work for V/Line which means I get to travel to the football for free every weekend. I live in Geelong and as such hate the Geelong Cats almost as much as I love the Hawks.
I play bass guitar in a sell-out cover band, and stole most of my rock moves from Tim Rogers of You Am I.
When summer rolls around I'm crazy for the cricket, but to break it up I also download American sports and go see the brand new South Melbourne Dragons basketball team.
Thanks for sharing, y'all.

I'm in enemy territory here!!
I've been invited in here by philhawk - Doggie fan with a grandfather who played for the poos and wees.
My pa's name was Ron Black - he played a couple of games in the mid 20's as a fullback. His career was cut short by running into a fence and injuring his knee. He made junior Victorian squads in the early 20's and was a representative along with players such as the Colliers. He formerly played with Box Hill before he went up bush in the North East (Whorouly). The folks have got some pretty cool memorabilia from way back and have received a club tie as recognition of his (albeit brief) service to the club.
I know it's nothing exciting, but philhawk thought you guys might be interested, so there it is.
Cheers

I know I am not allowed in here. But I cant help myself. All I want to say is that reading the foregoing posts has brought one helluva huge lump to my throat and, unashamedly, a tear to my eye.
It's great to know that Hawks supporters are as passionate as ever. So many unwavered as we go through thin eras after having gone through so much of the thick. What really impresses me are the youngsters who have not known the glory years but are such avid fans of our great club.
To you I say when the day comes and the premiership cup is again held aloft it is going to be all that much sweeter.
I am really moved in reading this thread. And it was one of our great young supporters who started it.

I agree with the others - great thread. Very enjoyable read, thanks to all those who have already introduced themselves.
I am 38, married with 3 kids. We live in Berwick and I work 2 jobs to try to pay the bills, but I still find some time (never quite enough) to log on to BigFooty.
I started barracking for Hawthorn in March 1980. The 80's were simply awesome and even better in hindsight (with some perspective). I loved seeing in a "Footy Dictionary" once the definition of "Grand Final - A game played at the end of the season between Hawthorn and some other side".
The only GF I went to was 1991. I became a member for the first time this year, one adult and one child membership. I took turns taking my kids and really enjoyed seeing the games live on a regular basis. My favorite players are Mitchell, Franklin and Croad, and of course you have to love Crawf and Hodge. I look forward to the future and really hope we can repeat those glory eras of the 70's and 80's.

I am 29 years old and barracked for the Hawks since I 6 years old. I was privileged to watch the 88, 89 and 91 grand final.
The 89 final was the perhaps the standout. I was almost the first 12 yrs old to drop dead of a heart attack. The winning margin was 6 points. I recall Dermot flattened in the first few minutes and Dipper leaving with a punctured lung. That day while Geelong played the man the Hawks played the ball . Almost lost it in the final few minutes:eek: , but what a day.
My sister also barracks for the Hawks and I sometimes think she is more of a passionate supporter than I am. I took her to her first game and she cheered louder than me . She then stuck it up to the opposition. I moved a few seats down in case a melee was to erupt. No fear, the Hawks cheers squad was near:cool: . Now my wife barracks for the Hawks . Came part of my contract;) .
I’ve been through the high and lows and I do believe this time around the current players we have will take us to another premiership. I saw the talent in 88 and the comparisons with the current team will surely win a flag. However, it will take some time. But when its time it will come with a bang(prediction 09). I just hope for Crawford sake he will still be around . I still remember Crawfs first match at the SCG kicking 5-6 goals. What a champ.
I always be a Hawk.
Go Hawks!!

I'm a student in Adelaide, but been a Hawk for most of my life now.
My dad and brother are Port, Mum's Geelong, and I'm a Hawk. I go for them because my aunt told me to, because she used to be good friends with the boys back in the 70's (Slightly obscure, I know)
She was really good friends with Peter Crimmins as a matter of fact. She told me that a group of them would come over to my grandad's house, flog a couple of beers, grab the ciggerettes and then quickly bail. :D
Maybe not the best attitude, but funny all the same.
Been to every Hawthorn game down here for a number of years, which unfortuantely has resulted in a number of beltings, but it's good to see the boys anyway.

My uncle follows the hawks and so my father and I started to support them too. I've been a member every year since 1999, and the first game I went to was the thrashing of Sydney at Waverley Park in 99. My favourite player was Danny Chick until he moved to the Eagles and since Campbell Brown joined our ranks, he's been my favourite.

Well, im helen, im 17 years old.. turing 18 in october. Currently in year12 and cant wait for this year to be over.
Ive supported hawks ever since i remember. My mum goes for hawks, and so does everyone else in her family, so i guss that it was family that made be go for hawks from a young age.. my dad goes for kangaroos... but it was hawthorn i was made.
I still remember the first game of footy i went to. I would have been about 5 years old... against adelaide at waverly park..i remember my uncle taking me to that game... and to this very day... i still go to the football with the same people.
Even though ive been a hawthorn support all my life, this is only the 3rd year i am a member. Ive got resverd seats at the mcg.. and have had them for the past three years.
I love going to the footy...but now this year i have got a part-time job.. so makes going to game abit more difficult.. but i get down when i can

just found this thread so i thought id have a crack..
Im 21 and was born a fitzroy supporter, dad was a lions fan, but switched to the hawks in '93 after being caught between the two for a couple of years because of relatives. My aunty n uncle took me to a hawks crows game at Waverly (we won) offered me a jumper for my birthday, i chose d. jarman, and that was it.
went to tafe out of high school and got a surveying qualification. for the last 18 months have worked full time as a survey draftsperson, therefore always on the computer and as a result big footy.
Living in the northern suburbs of Melb, every one barracked for the pies, blues or bombers growing up, so have never had many hawks supporters to go to games with. i started playing footy again this year to help some mates out for the first time since under 17s so havent been to many games this year, but try to watch the replay every week.

Living in the northern suburbs of Melb, every one barracked for the pies, blues or bombers growing up, so have never had many hawks supporters to go to games with. i started playing footy again this year to help some mates out for the first time since under 17s so havent been to many games this year, but try to watch the replay every week.
Welcome, matey. :thumbsu:

G'day
My name is Chris. I am 27 years old and live in the outer eastern suburbs of Melb. I have been an avid reader of this website (more so than poster) since early this year. I play footy in the ammo's and came to know about this site after checking out their sites on BF.
I have been a Hawthorn fan all my life and have been a member for the past 12 years. My family is predominately made up of Hawks fans and my dad and I named my little brother Leigh when he was born - after the greatest player to have ever played the game of course. I love the Hawks and can occasionally get a bit upset at the negative posts on here when certain players don't perform. If they are having a dip for the brown and gold - they are right by me!!
Very excited about the next few years at Hawk land.
My favourite players are the ones that don't take a backward step - Lewis, Brown, Hodge, Mitchell and the like, but as i said before, as long as they are willing to have a crack for the mighty Hawks, then they've got my vote.
Cheers

Hi all!
The name's James, I'm 28 and living in Chelsea Heights, where "Lethal" was recruited from. I'm engaged to be married in March (Steph also Hawks), we've got a mortgage and 2 Staffies.
My brother and I run our own business in blinds and awnings called Twenty20Blinds, if anybody needs anything please PM me. ;)
I was born into a non footballing family and had no team until I copied my best friend in Prep ('85). I guess I'm lucky in choosing good people to associate with!
Was only a barracker and never went to a game until '94 v ess, thus graduating to supporter. Best football memory was 96 merger game, Piggy is a Legend and Langers showed true Hawthorn colours. Scraped together pocket money for concession 11 in '97 '98 & '99, missing 2000 no money, but adult member since! Gold member this year with 8 year scarf!
No favourite players just love the tough guys (thanks god Vanders stopped the Bombers bashing us). Buddy is fast becoming no 1 though.
No 3 is on my back.
I am technology challenged so i tend to read all the great conversation on BF without contributing. Some of the 'Me Too' repetition sh1ts me though.
See you guys and girls around.
Go Hawks. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

My name is Nick and im a Hawkaholic.
Followed the Hawks for as long as i can remember, family are all either kangas or Hawks supporters (makes for interesting times) and im glad i made the right choice!! Chose the Hawks cos of the premiership in the year i was born, 1971 - you do the maths. Work in medical research (with the secret purpose of cloning many crawfs so we can have him/them for the next 100 years!). Lived/worked overseas for a while and missed a few seasons but absolutely loving it since being back in oz.

Hi guys, only really just discovered this thread so i thought i would just say a couple of things..
I discovered Big Footy about 6 months ago and since then i haven't been able to go a day with out coming on and checking the news and whats going on with everything.
Im 20 years old and live in tassie work full time and love sport especially basketball and football where i play both at senior level here in tassie. I've been a fan since i was about 3 years old as my dad gave me no choice (ive been told i originally barracked for the bulldogs but dad must have brain washed me into the hawks) and so i love it when the hawks come down here to play and when im able to get to melbourne to watch them!
As i dont have many close friends that are hawks supporters and they just cringe when i want to talk about them (24 hours a day) its great to be able to come on here and discuss everything to do with the hawks with people who share the same passion and love for the club that i do...
I was to young to remember or see any of our premierships so i am very much looking forward to the next 3 - 5 years where hopefully the day will come and i can only imagine the feeling..
Anyway there is a couple of my thoughts i look forward to the future and hopefully meeting some of you guys on here and witnessing hawthorn success!!

G'day Hawkers, Cam here. 2 years ago I moved to Melbourne after 5 years overseas. If only i had found Bigfooty while i was away, because hands down BF provides more info about the mighty hawks than any other medium. But i rarely get time to post, I guess Im happy just to observe.
Im into my 3rd year as a member and go to every game i can:thumbsu:.
I dont play anymore, but my last game was for the mightly Wimbledon Hawks in th BAFL in London. I didnt know anyone in London when i got there, and moved to wimbledon purley to play for the Hawks. A great experience, and made my first few months in a new country a pleasant time.
I tried to start my very first thread tonight but... access denied.:(
Mods, when will i be able to post new threads?

Hi all.
My name is Jonathan (Jono for short). I am 25 and I have been a Hawthorn supporter all my life. My dad and brothers are also passionate Hawkers although mum follows the Bulldogs, which should make for an interesting first week come finals. :p
I only stumbled across bigfooty earlier this year but since then have been frequently reading many of the posts, mainly on the Hawthorn board and Bay 13 (always manages to make me laugh some of the stuff that ends up on there, with the likes of geelong_crazy26, poidacat, etc). I look forward to being able to contribute my own posts going forward.
I have been to most of our games this year, including week one of the NAB cup at Aurora stadium against the Swans and Round 12 against the Crows at AAMI (what a win that was!) and thankfully most have been good results. :)
During the week I get to drive home along Hawthorn road which makes peak hour traffic bearable. :thumbsu:
Anway, hopefully I will catch up with many of you at some of the pre-game gatherings at the London in the future and hopefully we can win our tenth flag for Crawford this year. Go Hawks!
