View Full Version : Who do we NOT want to draft at pick 13...

I'm losing track of the number of recommendations I've sighted as to who we should draft at 13. Just wondering who, if their name was read out as our first pick, would make you squirm and think "Geeeeeeeeeeeez, really not happy with that choice Greg", followed by bashing of tables and cursing to the nth degree.
Obviously anyone rated as a 30/40+ pick would be initially concerning, but for mine I'd rather steer clear of Jetta and I wouldn't be happy if we used 13 on him.
I'm no expert (and perhaps this comment will prove that), but from the reports of others I've decided he's a bit of a 1 dimensional squib.

Agree with not taking Jetta, already have enough of his type of player, we need a tough nut midfielder or an athletic key position player (ie also not riewoldt...still would be great hearing Riewoldt, Richo and Brown...imagine if we had've gotten pavlich instead of fiora and also fev last year...holy shyte!!! Riewoldt, Richo, Brown, Pavlich, Fevola!!!)
Agree with not wanting to go ANYWHERE near Riewoldt, Jetta and Collard.
I think we should go for tougher hard bodied players, the eagles midfield is a bunch of fit absolute units, hence i like the sound of Hislop.

riewalt too slow
So Livingston, Lucy and the N.Brown who is available this year are better footballers than Riewoldt because they're quick over 20 metres?
I'd kill for him to fall to pick 17 if he is half as good as Nick.
Would drafting Benjamin be a case of deja vu for the Tigers?

ye i think drafting benjamin will be like deja-voo because he is rated like Oakley- nicholls. very athletic but got the feeling not great footy skills:thumbsd:
i would also be upset if we drafted another aboriginal because of their inconsistency - jetta.. and would not like 2 c riewoldt in the yellow or black either.. lets get the best available player that slips. (sellar, armitage or maybe hislop)

Do you mean inconsistent like dual brownlow medallist Goodes or inconsitent like top three in brownlow last two years and gun regular season and in finals like Daniel Kerr or do you mean inconsistent like Norm Smith medallists Pickett, Matera, Rioli, Long and Andrew Macleod or do you mean inconsistent like Wanganeen, Barry Cable, Polly Farmer, Jim and Phil Krakour, Tyson Edwards, Shaun Burgoyne, David Wirrpanda, Aaron Davey, Graham Johncock, Michael Johnson and Chance Bateman etc etc etc.......................?

You don't draft key defenders champ.
You draft key forward and the ones who don't make the grade become defenders.

Just to prove that I don't disagree with everything you say Bentleigh, you are spot on (IMHO).
Scott Turner started as a key forward and i'd argue he was better than Gaspar. Leave the drafting of junior defenders until late in the draft.

Bentleigh would pass on Hansen.
He is for the most part right, but their is always exceptions to the rule. Hansen's strength is his versatility. he can play on the wing, up forward or CHB. Its just that he is at his best at CHB, because of his attacking ability on top of the ability to shut blokes down. Where as a key defender like rutten is just that a defender. Get one of those on the rookie list.

schultz will be a forward. We won't give him the flick. He has talent written all over him and when he gets a good run with injuries we will get rewards ;). Thursfield is smaller than P Bowden, so we don't want to rely on him playing at FB every week. You W@NKER lol

Your welcome Barx. Nothing like a mythical sterotype to reinforce prejudices for some though.
Nothing like generalising from the particular either.
Like left footers cant kick - refer Duncan Kellaway
Indegenous players are slow - refer Andy Krakour
and white players are soft - refer Adam Houlihan and Greg Tivendale
Cheers;)

Racist
um im not racist i just dont think most aboriginals are so consistend besides goodes and kerr. i dont think jetta will be as good as those to. im thinking a class below a davey type. richmond should be looking at inside midfielders or key position players.

With Thursfield being a very negative player, in that he negates rather than creates, would compliment the creativity of the Bowdens through our backline, a good asset for our FB.
From what I've seen of him he is definately worth becoming the next FB... any player who can be trusted by the coach to on the big forwards in year 1 (Micky O etc) obviously has the confidence of the staff. Next year I'm not looking for him to hold out defense together as he is still coming back from a knee reco but 2008 is his year, however, next year we still have Gaspar :thumbsu:.
You could also look at it this way, Thursfield is only 5 cm shorter than Jeff White, and look how far he's got as a ruckman...

Pretty sure that Kerr is Sri Lankan.
Pretty sure that Kerr is Sri Lankan.
His old man Roger is a WA footy figure (well he has coached junior footy teams) and I'm pretty sure he emigrated from South Africa.
Pretty sure that Kerr is Sri Lankan.
Kerr's dad is from Malaysia, his mum is white/Australian.
His dad played many games 150 odd? in the WAFL and was regarded as a very good player:thumbsu:
