Power Metal, much in the vein of late 80s Helloween. Recommended songs to download would be "Save Us Now" and "Tears of a Mandrake".
Lead singer Tobias Sammet also has written the heavy metal opera Avantasia, which features many of the leading names in power metal. Recommended songs to download would be "The Final Sacrifice" and "Sign of the Cross".
Power metal, as is any other genre, is a matter of taste, but Edguy are definitely one of the leading bands of this type.

Where in the hell did that come from??
What, I had never heard of EdGuy, so that's dis-respectful??
Your post was totally stupid. I am hoping you were the first person to leave the hall, too.

Tobias Sammet IS Edguy. If the guy had 10 arms and 10 legs then he'd have no need for the guys in the band!
Avantasia is a masterpiece & I cannot wait for parts 2 and 3 (part 2 to apparantely feature Eric Singer on some songs!).

You better bet your left nut that I'll be there!
That's awesome, saw it almost confirmed on the official site also...I just hope they play a lot of Avantasia material- as I believe it's stronger than most of the material on Mandrake.
VP as support! Well done!!!
If Edguy can justify a tour (and this has come right out of the blue) then maybe it can shut up the bull**** excuses coming out of other favourite Euro power metal bands that refuse to tour our country. Go Tobias!!!!!!!

Mandrake is their best album IMHO, but you're right Avantasia is generally stronger still.
But can you find suitable vocalists for all the different character parts? I mean look at tracks 11 & 12, for instance - there's only ONE Kai Hansen!!!
I have also been reliably informed by a certain person :D that a Blind Guardian tour late in the year looks promising.
Maybe if Kai's mates have successful tours he can bring Gamma Ray down here, and pass on the message to his former band mates in Helloween that the power metal scene here is flourishing.
Wishful thinking perhaps, but you never know...

Oh, I'm laughing mate. At that poor excuse for a rumour. I think you will find that Pantera are taking 2002 off, and Phil is releasing a second album from his side band, Down, with a possible tour. Then Pantera they hit the studios in 2003 for their next record.
So if you want to say **** like you have, make sure it's true first.

Mate, you obviously know NOTHING about Pantera and what has gone on since they released their last album.
They did tour for much of 2001, through Asia, Down here in Aus and NZ, then they did their tour with Slayer, Morbid Angel, Skrape and Static X throughout the states. At the end of this, they have decided to take some time off until the end of the year, which is fair enough. And, Phil does another album with Down.
So, there you go. And stop wasting everyone's time with the utter crap you like to post. It is getting tiresome!

I THINK Edguy will play Melbourne on the 11th AND 12th, or so it would seem, both most likely at the Espy.

Can I also urge you guys to make sure you buy your tickets early on when they become available- to ensure they don't cancel due to "lack of sales".
Ensure all your metal brothers and sisters attend, even if they're not huge Edguy fans- I believe this night could possibly be the turning point for metal in Australia, let's help ensure that this becomes a success.
For years I've wanted Helloween, Savatage- all kinds of metal bands to come to Australia- I even started a Helloween petition years ago......this could be a major turning point!
Let's do our part! Deal metal brothers?

Not yet, if I find out I'll post them here ASAP- likewise if you could do the same if you find anything out that would be great.
Bigfooty has become a good place to inform each other of great events like this.
