from test cricket at any rate...says his body won't last 5 days and is sick of letting down his country/teammantes etc. He still intends to play one day stuff with the aim of finishing at the World Cup.

Tests: 72
330 wickets, av'ge 22.25
Best bowling 8-71 v Zimbabwe 1995-96

Was one of the great bowlers of the last decade...his working over of the Waughs in one test was fantastic, and a spell he had at Mike atherton after an umpire missed an obvious caught behind of atherton was simply awesome.

sad to see him go out the way he did, he deserved better.

It is sad to see any player forced to retire because of injury. It has been great to watch Alan Donald play over the last 10 years and hopefully he can be fit for the one-day series over there in a few weeks.

He has been a fantatsic contributor to SA cricket.

Thanks Allan for all the times you entertained us......
You were great for the revival of SA cricket...

The dissappointing stat is that he only played 72 tests. Average of over 4.5 wickets per test shows just how much SA are going to miss him.

One of the truly exciting fast bowlers and sad that he won't get a chance to walk off the feild for the last time to the recognition and applause that he deserves.

A Donald, the original white lightning. A great career by him indeed. It's always sad when it ends this way.

Sensational bowler at his peak.

The spell he bowled against the Waughs last time SA were in OZ was the most ferocious I've ever seen outside of the WI team of the 80s.

Sad to see him go out like that.

I loved the way he played - fierce on the ground - good bloke off it.

Well played AD - South Africa are going to miss you

One of my favorite bowlers when growing up as a kid. Sad to see his career end on such a low note (injury and losing the test) but I hope he remains involved in the game for SA cricket in some form.
