Yes, the details are being finalised as we speak. A totally useless activity to pass the time, avoid the wife or husband, or use as a study break is coming soon to The Den.
If you missed out on the last trading game and thought you could have beaten Grim (i mean who couldn't), don't despair because this one will be bigger and better (although not as long which is a plus).
It is open to all - first time players, veteran coaches looking for revenge (looking at you toddy, Ashli, and Grimreepah), and Collingwood supporters*.
It is not the same game as the first one - it involves the national draft, a lion core group, 1500 points, and more twists than a packet of twisties. The winner (as judged by the rest of the lion's board), gets bragging rights and my personal thumbs up. :thumbsu:
Hopefully the rules will be up by tomorrow. Get excited! And nominate early to avoid disappointement.
*Note: not open to Collingwood supporters.

Rules for the Brisbane Lions Board game II:
Intro: Think you have what it takes to be a draft scout for an AFL club? Are you able to unearth the next "big thing" with a low pick? Well this game will test your ability to draft a gun side from a combination of lion's legends and draftees from 95-05.
Aim: to build the best possible team of 22 as voted by the rest of the lion's board.
Rules:
Each scout is given 1500 player points (PP) at the start of the game.
All players have been given a ranking, depending on their value, or where they were picked up in the national draft.
There are two pools of players to pick from: the first draft will focus solely on Brisbane players (Core Lion Group). From the CLG, you must select at least 4 lion players for your team (max 8). The lion players are graded in 4 categories according to ability (i.e. the top teir of players are worth 120 PP, the next group are worth 75, than 50, and finally the last group of players are worth 25 PP).
The order of draft picks will be determined by random allocation (same as what happened for the last drafting game). If you only want to pick up the minimum of 4 lion players, you must pass on your 5th turn. Once you have passed, you can no longer pick up any Brisbane players for your team.
Once every team has picked their lion players, we have the second draft. This draft contains every player (minus Brisbane players) who were drafted in the national drafts of 1995 to 2005.
These players are also ranked. If the player went in the 1st round of his draft he is worth 120 PP. 2nd round, 3rd round, and 4th or higher picks are worth 75, 50, or 25 PP, respectively.
You can pick up any player from any draft (apart from lion players) with your turn to build your side of 22. However, you must pick a minimum of 1 player from every draft year, and you are only allowed to pick a maximum of 2 players from a particular year.
The draft order is once again random - although if you picked up 8 lion players, you obviously only get 14 selections.
The twist is this: every scout has good and bad years. Therefore, at the start of the game you are randomly allocated a "gun" draft and a "dud" draft. All players in your "gun draft" (i.e. say it is 1998) are worth 1/2 (i.e. 1st round selections = 60 PP). All players in your "dud draft" (say it is 2003) are worth double (i.e. 1st round selections = 240 PP).

Obviously those rules are quite complex ^^^ but hopefully they make sense. We may not start the game for a while but i am calling on any other "scouts: to participate to pass the off-season. There are probably a few kinks in the rules that need to be ironed out, but i can work on that. I am also open to any questions.
I will take up the challenge again, toddy is in, Cozi seems game. Do we have any other challengers?

Ok, say there are 4 competitors (Player 1, Player 2, Player 3, and Player 4).
We have the CLG draft first. I will list a group of around 50 lions players who you can pick for your team. It may look something like this (with some examples):
Group 1 - Voss, Leppitsch, Akermanis, Brown (all of these players would be worth 120 points)
Group 2 - Power, Charman, Sherman, Johnson (all worth 75 points)
Group 3 - Rischitelli, Keating, Drummond (all worth 50 points)
Group 4 - McDonald, McGrath, Roe (all worth 25 points).
Once again we have that scattered draft order:
Pick 1 - player 1
Pick 2 - player 2
Pick 3 - player 3
Pick 4 - player 4
Pick 5 - player 4
Pick 6 - player 3
Pick 7 - player 2
Pick 8 - player 1.
Now we keep going until every player has picked the lions players they want in their team (minimum 4, maximum 8). Some may only want 4 players to leave 18 selections in the draft. Some may want 8 lion players to get more votes, but it leaves them only 14 selections in the second draft).
Once that draft is completed, we calculate how many points you have left (i.e. say Player 1 picked up 5 lion players: Voss, Power, Charman, McGrath, and McDonald). This would add up to 320 player points. They therefore, have 1180 points left in the second draft.
We then have the second draft. At this stage, your "gun" and "dud" drafts are randomly allocated. Say Player 1's "gun" draft was 2001, and their "dud" draft was 2004. We have the same random order as before:
Pick 1 - player 1
Pick 2 - player 2
Pick 3 - player 3
Pick 4 - player 4
Pick 5 - player 4
Pick 6 - player 3
Pick 7 - player 2
Pick 8 - player 1.
Note: in this draft you are not allowed to pick any lion players. They must all be choosen in the first draft.
Now Player 1 can pick any player from any draft from 95-05. He/she must pick at least 1 player from every draft (with a max of 2 from one specific year). They may decide to pick up Judd (2001 draft) with their first pick. He would normally be worth 120 PP, however, because Player 1's "gun" draft was 2001, it only costs them 60 PP. They now have 1120 points left.
For their next pick (pick 8), this player may elect to pick up Henry Slattery from the 2004 draft. Slattery went in the third round so he is worth 50 points. However, because 2004 was player 1's "dud" year, Slattery is now worth 100 points. They are now left with 1020 points left.
So after these picks, Player 1 has 7 players (5 from the CLG draft and 2 from the National draft). They have 1020 points left to pick a further 15 players (around 70 points per player on average). Therefore, they can't afford to simply pick up 1st or 2nd round picks, they need to look for some bargins.

The challenge is of course to decide when to pick up your bargin basement players who only cost you 25 points, and when to pick up your superstars who cost a lot more.

Yeah. After we all have our lion players who can pick whoever you want from the drafts 95-05 ensuring:
you don't go over the 1500 limit, and
you take one player from each of the 11 drafts, but no more than 2.

Yeah that sounds a much better way of doing it. We could also work out which years are the dud and gun years using a system like that.

Btw a not for all: the rules state the players must be picked from the National draft (not the pre-season, zone selection, mid-season etc).

Ok, we need a way of figuring out who is who just like we did last time. Also the Core Lions Group is:
Category 1 (120 PP): Michael Voss, Justin Leppitsch, Nigel Lappin, Alastair Lynch, Jason Akermanis, Simon Black, Mal Michael, Jonathan Brown.
Category 2 (75 PP): Shaun Hart, Chris Johnson, Luke Power, Marcus Ashcroft, Clark Keating, Daniel Bradshaw, Jamie Charman, Justin Sherman, Mitch Clark, Jed Adcock.
Category 3 (50 PP): Craig McRae, Martin Pike, Chris Scott, Darryl White, Richard Champion, Brad Scott, Craig Lambert, Brad Boyd, Adrian Fletcher, Brett Voss, Michael Rischitelli, Josh Drummond, Jason Roe, Cheynee Stiller, Richard Hadley, Michael McLean, Des Headland.
Category 4 (25 PP): Matthew Kennedy, Tim Notting, Robert Copeland, Beau McDonald, Blake Caracella, Jarrod Molloy, Ashley McGrath, Matthew Clark, Aaron Shattock, Steven Lawrence, Jared Brennan, Adam Heuskes, Troy Selwood, Shane O’Bree, Anthony Corrie, Matthew Moody, Damien Cupido, Rhan Hooper, Joel Patfull, Daniel Merrett, Cameron Wood, Scott Harding.
There are about 60 players here, so around 20 extras (5x8 = 40 max selections). The order is not exactly what they may be worth (there would probably be a few more in the top couple of categories), but i did it like that to allow everyone to pick up a few lions players. The younger players are also more expensive as you can see. This was done on purpose because as we saw during voting for the last game, there are a few young'uns on this board who have a very short memory and tend to pick the side they recognise the most names. :p
The point of this is that there are some cheaper players that you may like to pick up, or you could risk your luck and save picks for the national draft.
If you really think a certain player belongs elsewhere, let me know and i will change it. Also, if a former Brisbane player is not on the list, but was drafted by another team before or after they played for the lions, you have every right to pick them up. But if they are on this list - this is the only opportunity you have of drafting them.
I will check this board again at around 1pm to see if Cozi has seen this thread. I will start a new thread when the game begins - we could work out the draft order + dud and gun drafts in this thread.

Perhaps we could create a post with random numbers (where each number, or should I say year, is equally represented). Then we use a modification of the random allocation method previously described.
Does this make sense?

Ideally an independent/neutral person should rank the teams (using joshhem's random number website).

Well what if we go in alphabetical order for that random website:
Cozi (between 1-20)
Grimreepah (21-40)
joshhem (41-60)
toddy (61-80)
Warwick (81-100)
So a neutral person generates numbers between 1 and 100, they post the results on this page, and we determine the teams that way. Say for example the results were:
24 - Grim Team 1
82 - Warwick Team 2
16 - Cozi Team 3
43 - joshhem team 4
69 - toddy team 5

What part are people confused about? (Don't mention the entire process).
I'm happy to do it again if needs be but it will be just as random the next time. Does anyone want it done again or are we happy to continue?
The order should be perfectly fair, it just continues to go: 1 2 3 4 5 5 4 3 2 1 until we finish. Therefore, team 5 gets their 2 picks before everyone else.
The drafts were decided by a random number cruncher, as was the draft order.
Btw, if you think this is tough, have a look at how the Adelaide board is playing their game. It just continues in order, ie. 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4 5
