Possibly in a recruiting role. Maybe the replacement for Mick Moylan if he goes west?

Trevena is the SA U18 coach and development manager (I believe). Here's an article on him (http://sanfl.com.au/default.aspx?s=developmentdisplay&aid=108350)from the SANFL site.

Hmmm, Im not sure about him, he hasn't been too successful as the SA U18 Coach.

Im sure there must be better options than this former South Adelaide player.

Moreso, it shouldn't come into it because this is Port Adelaide - Fos Williams was from West, Bob McLean from Norwood, John Cahill from South. We've never been afraid to take the best from others and absorb them into our club.

I'd rather see an ex-Port person, who is now at South, though.

No it wasn't a sledge at South Adelaide, as FF has stated we have done very well with people who have come into our Club with experience at others.

I was just trying to offer a bit of a background to Trevena as many of the youngsters here would only know him as the SA U/18 Coach.

I just don't think he has done anything as coach of those sides.

I seem to recall he had big wraps when he was in the NT?

When was that.........unless you were thinking of Darren Bewick who's now back in Melbourne.

Edit:-

Just found a link that had him coaching the NT Thunder side in 2002 when I wasn't really following the local footy up here as we were still bogged down with GST garbage at my old workplace.

He lead our Under 18 side to their first championship win beating QLD in the final for Division 2............

If I am correct he was sacked (contract not renewed)

Interestingly he has been replaced by former strut coach Brendan Phillips who "is a proven developer of pllayers"

quote taken from SANFL web site.

"The SANFL is delighted to announce the appointment of Brenton Phillips to the SANFL Talent Manager position. Brenton enjoyed a distinguished playing career at SANFL / AFL levels and has a proven player development and coaching record, particularly with the Sturt Football Club.

Brenton’s career achievements are as follows –

Playing Career –

North Adelaide Football Club – 215 games & 135 goals from 1981 to 1985 and 1992 to 1997
Essendon & Brisbane Lions Football Clubs – 71 games combined from 1986 to 1991
SANFL Magarey Medallist in 1993
South Australian State Player in 1993
North Adelaide Best & Fairest in 1993 & 1994

Coaching Career –

Sturt Football Club – 2002 to 2006
Premiership Coach – Sturt Football Club 2002
Coached Sturt Football Club to 4 finals series in 5 seasons
Adelaide University (SAAFL) in 2001 & 2002

In this crucial role, Brenton will be responsible for managing all elite player pathways in South Australia with a special focus on the State Under 18 and Under 16 programs.

Brenton will commence at the SANFL in a part time capacity in November before assuming full time duties in early 2007."

If moylan was to leave I would hope that the position is going to be filled by someone with experience in recruiting rather than just grab someone who has no experience other than playing or coaching football.

If no one suitable can be found outside the club I would hope the club would seriously consider appointing Geoff Parker from within the club to the role.

I don't really know much about Trevena, but I'd doubt he's going to coach at Port. It may be - if Moylan goes and nothing's been confirmed there, only some statements attributed to WCE staff - that Port will revert to a setup which sees Trevena head up talent spotting in SA and Kinnear Beetson (for example) in Victoria, maybe heading up the system. I believe Moylan oversees the whole shebang from Vic - is that still the case?

From the article on Trevena from the SANFL site

Trevena has 10 spotters watching underage matches every week who report to him each Monday. Statistics are logged and the observations passed on to players in an integrated system.

So Trevena would have a ready made network which Port could utilise and add to existing resources.

I'm pretty certain that he's still based there.

The bulk of Port's touring party returned to Adelaide yesterday, including Peter Rohde, so some more details of the restructuring may come out next week.

I had heard prospective assistant coaches were only being offered 1 year deals (tied to Choco's current tenure I imagine) which was making it difficult to secure applicants from interstate.

That would have been the year when Brennan, Logan, Corrie, etc. were drafted.
