View Full Version : Who to play on Richo and Ottens?

My guess is that it will be Manton on Ottens and Beaumont on Richo. Merrington will probably drop back in the hole in front of Richo.
What are your thoughts?

One out, Manton can't stop Ottens nor can Beaumont stop Richardson.
To win Carlton will have to limit opportunities out of the middle, and flood back to soak up the space.
It's a moot point though. Because of percentage, one of Geelong or West Coast will go into the Wizard semi-finals. Unless something remarkable happens this one really is just a practice match.

I realise that they aren't great match ups - but do we have anyone else? The great flood is our only friend for a game against the tall timber of Richmond.
Though Manton did do a very good job on Ottens (in the circumstances) in the final last year, lets not forget that. However, I can't see him doing it consistently. Matty Allan has to play very well in order to force Ottens into the ruck and get him out of the forward line.

How is Prendergast going? An article on him in Inside Football today suggests that he is quite looking forward to playing a Key role in defence. He is 194cm, 94kg, athletic and has learned how to hold front position. He would be perfect for Richo who likes to run around a bit. If he can tire Richo out, he will lose focus and not be such a threat. Then Beaumont can take Ottens while Mants chops his legs off! ;):D
Double teaming on Richo or Ottens would probably do the trick. If all else fails... then flooding could come into play, and then we'll see the same ferocity at the ball as we saw when we played against the Tigers last year. Let's just hope that this game will swing in our favour, but it's not like we'll reach the semis of the Harry Potter Cup (unless the margin of the Geelong v WC game is small, and we trounce the Tigers by 6 goals).
Unlikely, but possible.

As I mentioned on a previous thread, IMO the Blues will struggle against quality opposition tall forwards this year without SOS & Kouta. I reckon you need to trial someone like a Merrington on Ottens as Manton just isn't tall or good enough. Beaumont should hold Richo though.

Prendergast is gonna be a gun, he's already almost there. Played Richo well last night, only got beaten twice from my reckoning. JEEEEEZZZZZ I'm very happy that he's stepping up, 194cm strong athletic aerobically a terminator, Prenders is our next CHB make absolutely no mistake about it. And he's good. Salivating.

Yep - very pleased with his performance last night. Richo got a gift with the first goal of the game last night. From what I can see Prendergast did no wrong but jumped extremely high in the air to smother Richo's kick. The place where Richo took the mark and the place where Prender jumped up to smother from were the same spot. So once you take that goal out, and another was just a soccer off the ground, he did a good job to keep him to just one other goal. Not many forwards are better or stronger than Richo - well done Prender!

I should add that it was great to see Prender run off Richo and link up across the half back line. Richo couldn't be bothered chasing him the first few times - and the next few times he did bother which meant we had Richo in our forward line where he won't cause any trouble.
Do any of you guys think that Prender is kind of awkward looking when he plays? He seems to me to be a little awkward and looks raw in his movements.

'Prenders' is 'James Manson' awkward....well not that bad. Richo had a poor night last night. Hasn't really put in so far in the Wizard Cup. Should start to step it up as the real stuff draws nearer.
Bray looked a lot like Camporeale don't you think?
Matty Allen was good against Ottens in the ruck and beat him quite handily. Richmond need Stafford in the side fit and playing well to release Ottens up forward.
The Blues played well last night without Camporeale, Ratten, Whitnall, Hickmott et al. I was ready to write your boys off this year without SOS but a top 6 spot is there for the taking - if not top 4.

Good to hear something other than the usual "Carlton are on decline" quotes from opposition fans. Usually it is only Bomber fans who are wary of what we might do.
Cheers hatster! :D

Prender definitely looked a bit 'unco' against Brisbane on Friday Night. James Manson might have had a laugh in fact. :(
