I've had a think about what i believe would be an ideal draft from our perspective. I dont mean Gibbs being available at 5, then Hansen or Gumbleton at 23, i'm being realistic.
Our first pick - I'm hoping we get Thorp, who can be used in a key position either in defence or attack. He would shore up our big men stocks, and provide support to Tredders, C Cornes Chaplin, Carlile, Willits and White. I think Sellar would be too much of a risk, whilst i think Selwood (if available) would be great, but with our existing midfield stocks, we really need to concentrate on a KPP pick with our first pick.
Pick 2 - Edwards from North Adelaide would be great, i've heard he has exquisite skills possibly reminiscent of the Jarman brothers. Edwards' stocks have risen considerably in the last few weeks but there would be some chance he'd be available with our second pick.
Pick 3 - in my "ideal" draft list, we'd take Hurley from Sturt with our 3rd pick. His disposal needs a bit of work but he certainly knows how to find the ball.
Pick 4 - Hier, the young full back from the WWT Eagles would be an ideal 4th pick in my opinion. Hes impressed with the Eagles this year, and could be equally capable as Carlile as establishing himself in the last line of defence within the next 2 to 3 years in our AFL side. I have a sneaking suspicion though that the Crows may try to get him with one of their picks, thereby enabling Rutten to move away from Full Back.
1 Thorp
2 Edwards
3 Hurley
4 Hier
I've gone for 3 South Aussies for 2 reasons, 1, i know most about them, and 2, they remove the "go home" factor. The 4th player Thorp is from Tasmania, so there wouldn't be an issue for him to move home to player either.
