View Full Version : DRAFT GAME III- Watch This Space!!
The next installment of the Draft Game (yes i have paid Warwick royalties for borrowing his idea) is almost complete and will be held shortly.
A date is not yet been set but within 2 weeks (possibly closer to the end than start of period) would be expected. In terms of game details i will not release this information until closer so as to make it more difficult.
At this stage I am looking for people to declare their interest, any Brisbane BF member is eligible, though I again state i would like one or a couple of John, TBD and TFB to partcipate. As for Grim, Warwick and to a lesser extent myself, we will more than likely be only involved if the 4-5 (exact team numbers not yet decided but first in rules apply) cannot be found.
I raise the possibility of having teams inside of teams (2 players making team A for example) if interest is wide spread. If there are any suggestions for ways to improve the quality and efficiency of the drafting process please post them and they will be considered.
Thank you guys and look forward to seeing the battle resume!!
I like the idea of 2 posters making up a team. May help with the research and keep the ball moving. Also create a little more competition with how the partners are interacting and their approach. If there aren't enough people that haven't had a go yet then I will put my hand up. Sounds good.
What royalties toddy?
I reckon the "team dynamics" would be interesting, but it would probably start many fights. We will definately see who wears the pants in the relationship.
I won't participate in this draft game as I'm going to be busy with my school Formal (15th) and Graduation (17th). I am also going to Adelaide on Saturday 18 November until Friday 24 November for Schoolies. I will play in the 4th game though.
I'm out till at least the 16th as well.
I've been on hols for the past 2 weeks already so I'm ready whenever anyone else is.
As I said in a previous post I am tied up with rellies staying. After they have gone, in another 4 weeks, I am more than happy to make a fool of myself for your entertainment. :)

count me in.
Date is yet to be decide but after the 15th (maybe sat the 18th). Im sorry Man City Blues Lions posters get preference, and as there will be only 4-5 teams there might be no hope.

Seeing as no one got 10 votes in the last game, I presume it was a draw.
Next time the poll should have a time limit, eg 14 days, and whoever has the most votes after that time wins.
Get team nominations in now before its too late. There will be 4 teams.

I think this draft game will be the real deal. The first game was a warm up and the second game was a draw. So now the winner takes all.

You should not generalise about the posters on the Lions board. They are all unique and have their own opinions and have their own special place on our forum.
Im afraid they like KPP so your out of luck grim.

THE GAME AND ITS RULES
A GAME OF NUMBERS.....This latest installment is based around jersey numbers. The numbers 1-44, and the 16 teams make up the basis for this the most anticipated and difficult version of the draft game.
THE RULES
*Each team can only have one player for each number. (The players number is determined by the one he has played most of his career in).
*Each team has 15 random numbers (between 1-44) that they are restricted from using.
*Each team must consist of one player from each of the 16 teams (with no more than two).
*Each team is allowed 2 selections of players with numbers they wore that arent considered as their primary number (Must still have been worn post 1996 inclusive).
*Player pool consists of players who have played a minimum of 20 games between 1996 and 2006.
*There will be 4 teams with a 12344321 drafting system as per other games (which will be determined later, as too will the number exclusions).
CURRENT PLAYERS:
Grimreepah
Warwick
Ashli
PRE-GAME EVENTS:
*Find one more player
*Each player sends me, via PM, a number between 1-100 (Warwick has already sent one).
*Player with number closest to mine, chooses what team they will be (A, B, C or D), without knowing the number exclusions. The next closest person chooses from whats left and so forth until the player with the furthest away number is left with the team letter left over.
*Players will be privately messaged their respective number exclusions (these will be kept annonymous unless player decides to let others know).
*The draft order will then be announced in a 1234 4321 format.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PLAYER AND VOTERS ALIKE:
*Players must have played 20 or more games.
*Players are to be judged on what they have achieved in their career, not on potential. Eg. Mitch Clark (albeit ineligible from this game) ha not accomplished much, and thus would not accrue many votes.
*Players are to be played in their positions (or have at least played a few games in that spot). Eg. Jamie Charman has not played CHF before and thus would be judged harshly if placed in such a position (GRIM!!).
*Toddy has decisive vote in case of a dispute!!

I've found that not to be the case. Last time I had a midfield that would have killed any team before the ball even gets to the forward 50, but the voters are naive. They see a few big names with overblown reputations sitting at CHF and FF, and vote without thinking it through. And it seems ruckmen are as valuable as small, slow, outside players that are soft and have poor skills.
But I have learnt. My strategy has been honed, and this time it will be your job to try and keep up.

You can have as good a midfield as you want, but you are not going to win games of football with a forward line consisting of the cast from the 7 dwarves and the drunken oafs.

Maybe we could sort out the draft order and the 15 numbers we all can not use. The 4th participant just gets "team 4" (doesn't mean they will be 4th in the draft order obviously. As you are not playing, you could do the random number generator thing.

Ok then we will kick it off then. Toddy can do the order and jumper numbers, and the first person to reply gets the last team.
It gives everyone a chance to plan their strategy as well.
I have got a draft order and numbers exclusions done, so when everyone is decided and locked in to play, i plan to have a number between 1-100 where the closest gets first choice at being team A, B, C or D and the next closest goes 2nd etc. No one will know the numbers or order until teams are decided.

That's debatable and actually would have made an interesting contest. As it turns out I had some very good forwards. The weren't quite in the class of your's but with the service being provided they would have run riot.

With that system whoever picks the last random number has the advantage. I think everyone should be allocated a number ie 1, 2, 3 and 4, (it doesn't matter who is where) and then use the random number generator with those numbers.
The numbers would be messaged just to me so no one will see who has said what.

Just put down the jumper numbers (ie. 4 sets of 15) and then work out the draft order by using the number generator.
Ashli = 1
Grim = 2
"Other" = 3
Warwick = 4
Maybe do it twice - i.e. post the 4 sets of numbers. The first random order indicates who has which numbers, and the second time is the draft order. That is fair for all.

Lets just do the number generator. The website is in the 2nd game. We are missing half of the participants atm, so we cant do the PM thing.
First time = set of numbers you can use
Second time = draft order
Nah i got the jumper number exclusions and order worked out so it is at the fairest i could make it.
This will be how it goes:
As soon as the last person nominates, each player will PM me a number between 1 and 100. The person closest chooses A, B, C or D, 2nd closest chooses from the rest, then the 3rd closest and last person obviously gets whats left.
When this is done i will PM people their number exclusions so that other people dont know (makes things more difficult and thus challenging). I will monitor the abiding of the number exclusions.
The draft order will then be announced publicly, and the game will start on the 17th.
***No list will be offered that is up to each player.

Nah i got the jumper number exclusions and order worked out so it is at the fairest i could make it.
What does this mean? Shouldn't it be done completely at random?
yeah jumper numbers were done randomly but i made the order up to even out the smallest of differences in numbers. If all teams were to pick the lowest 22 numbers the last number each team would finish on is out by 1 or 2 so the teams with a higher finishing number are first in the drafting order. I based this around the fact that a lot of the good players have low numbers.
Warwick
10 Nov 2006, 23:46
And we wont know the other team's numbers so we can't steal players if we know another player needs to fill that spot?
It shouldnt really matter because there should be a heap available.
So can i just PM you a number between 1-100? And once everyone has done that you tell us who is the closest?
I thought it would be fun, as people wont know whether they can keep putting off players that are steals, without fearing them being taken. These rules may change before the start when i think more about it.

Ok the aim is to once again pick the best 22 you can. This time however, we are using jumper numbers. You can pick any player you want from 1996 to now, but you can only have one player per "jumper number" (i.e. you can't pick Chris Judd and Michael Voss because they both wore number 3). It also goes on the number the player has worn for the majority of his career.
You have to pick one player from every team, with a maximum of 2 from the same team (i.e. you can pick 2 players from 6 of the clubs, and only 1 from the other 10 clubs) to make your 22.
We are using jumper numbers 1-44 in the game. Toddy has picked 15 numbers each team can not pick. Therefore, you have 30 numbers with which to pick 22 players. For example, team 1 may not be able to pick players who wore jumper numbers 1-15 (that wont happen because the numbers are random).
We don't know which jumpers the other 3 competitors are forbidden to use.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH... AURGH! Well that is interesting. Alright. I can do that.
Couldnt describe it any better warwick (i hope i didnt send too many messages last night when i was out)

A rule change suggestion toddy:
What if you could pick any player going on any jumper they have worn since 1996? That increases the chance of picking a couple of beauties who may have started off in jumper number 40-odd. It just means you have to be a little more on your toes. If you click on a player at finalsiren.com, it has the list of jumpers that player has worn.
What do Grim and Ashli think about this idea?
Also, we still need another coach, so if you are a Brisbane supporter get on board. We start at the end of the week. It is the craze that is sweeping the rest of the bigfooty boards!!

I have had a quick look in between study to see what is out there in the late 30s and 40s. Did anyone half-decent ever wear the number 40?

C'mon - you know you want to!
Rules committee has judged that each team will get 2 picks they can use on players secondary numbers (2 picks of players whom played a handful of games in a particular jersey, before playing in the one the predominently play/ed in).

I don't get this bit. You said you have already allocated the draft positions with the sets of numbers. So really it doesn't matter who gets the closest number to you, the closest person has just as much a chance as getting the first pick as they do the 4th.
Shouldn't we then just randomly allocate the teams (i.e. the draft order and excluded numbers you have already come up with)? We could get our numbers tonight and when we get a fourth player, they just take the left-over set. The number between 1-100 doesn't mean a thing.

The game is you pick a team based on jumper numbers, read rules etc. on previous page. As for time spent you prolly need to be on everyday but by no means all day. Most progress is made at night so im thinking of working out a specific time where everyone comes on and could quicken up the process.

This will be my last BigFooty drafting game for a while, so I plan to go out a winner.
I have some (very rough) ideas for a BigFooty cricket game, so when everyone has recovered from this one, and the winner has become desensitised to all the glory they have been basking in, I may open it for discussion. Anyway enough of that, that's a long way down the track.
I like the idea of setting a time. I wish to reiterate my thoughts that if we can complete the drafting game in one or two days that would be preferable. How long are we waiting for a 4th person toddy? If we can't find someone, will we proceed with 3?
