Two items in the Geelong Addy regarding the call-ups for Friday night's game in Perth versus the West Coast Eagles-- and specifically, about the first-team debut of Gary Ablett Jr....

About Ablett Jr., specifically:

And about the young players, with a focus on Junior:

My take....... about damn time!! If people say he's ready for the big time, then let him play, by all means. As the expression goes, all he's going to learn by sitting on the bench is how to pull splinters out of his arse. And he's not going to benefit much more by playing in the reserves.

Let's see how it goes, with a place in the Wizard Cup finals on the line.

Cheers,
William

It actually unusual circumstances that young Gary finds him self in
Garry Snr retired at the end of 1997, but if he didnt do his knee and didnt get under Ayersys skin he may have had another two years in a fwd pocket.

Having a father-son combination is not unusual,

Sharing the same name is not unusual

but playing during the same generation as your father that's VERY UNUSUAL.

Give the boy a run in round 3 againt the roos, with archer, blakey, simpson, carey, king, colbert, pickett and McCartney giving it to him physically and verbally

Here's the take from today's Herald-Sun: http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,3858893%255E11088,00.html

Nolsey, good argument. But if you're going to blood him then, the better thing to do is to blood him now and into the first couple of weeks of the home-and-away campaign-- that way, he'd be ready for for the war of attrition against the Kangas that you're referencing.

Just my two cents worth. :)

Cheers,
William

These are going to be very exciting times for the Gelong Football Club and although I hear that Gary Ablett Jnr. is not playing tomorrow night, his time will come when he is ready.

There is no rush!!

I went ballistic when I heard the same thing on Ten before their prime-time programming. I guess we'll be hearing more on Sports Tonight.

I'll also try and dig up a link on the update, if I can find one tonight.

My wife will also have something to say on the matter, that's for sure. She was going as nuts as I was.

You might say that we've been duped by the reports, or whatever has happened........ but let me say it now......

*looking squarely into the camera*

THOMPSON IS A WEENIE FOR NOT GIVING HIM A RUN-OUT!

Better to give him a trial run-out now, for a so-called "meaningless" preseason game, rather than during games that matter in the real campaign.

Anybody have any idea what the %$#@ Thompson is doing by pulling the plug now? Put your input together here; I'm going to have a sedative.

Here's the latest, from Friday morning's Australian, with Thompson defending his choice to leave Ablett Jr. off the squad...

We may not see Ablett Jr. until "well into the winter months," the article states.

Im still not 100% convinced no5 jnr isnt going to make the trip to Perth, Im sure 26 are going to play because of the "exteme Heat rule" its 32 degrees in Perth today. ( I Hope they brought more than 24 players) Josh Hunt was named as an emergency Twice in Perth trips just to give him a taste of travelling, and both times the great GARRY HOCKING pulled out in the morning of the game.

They should have given Will Slade a run at least, and one of the young forwards Steve Johnson, Charle Gardiner Henry Playfair or Matty McCarthy should have played a game.
