Hey all.

Just thought I would liven the board up a bit. We need 16 people to participate in a draft game for the Carlton board. We are going to do a draft out of all the current AFL players. Once we get all the participants, I will organise a random pick order.

Who wants to have some fun?

With selection number 1 overall, Jeremias selects

Jonathan Brown

JB is the best CHF in the competition, and I am glad to take him. I was tossing up between a few players to take hee, the others being midfielders, but Browny was selected.

Next up, Hu$$ey

Hu$$ey
6 Nov 2006, 16:48
Gee chill out ODN, just came out of an exam :p

Pick 2 - Chris Judd
What more needs to be said? Arguably the best player in the draft and certainly in the top 2, will fit in every single team in the competion. Gun.

deluxeman
6 Nov 2006, 17:15
Pick 3 - Adam Goodes

Duel brownlow medallist, who has played in several positions throughout his career. He is the form player of the competition and would certainly be pushing for the no1 position in the AFL. Very happy with this pick. :thumbsu:

whippersnipper
6 Nov 2006, 18:11
Pick 4 - Matthew Pavlich

Versatile big man who oozes class. Geniune leader who has barely put a foot wrong, and at just 24, looks set to dominate the competition in the next five years.

(tough choice between him, Cox, Riewoldt and Hodge)

I feel the heavy burden of ODN's standing right behind me.. just like Wayne Hughes & Kevin Sheedy in three weeks... what to do, best available or needs??

Pick 5 - Dean Cox

Easily the stand-out ruckman in the competition. The bedrock on which to build a side. Dominated last year and will do so again in 2007.

The Old Dark Navy's
6 Nov 2006, 18:59
Okay. Change of tack. Best available.

Pick 6 Nick Riewoldt.

B&F winner last year. Has had his injury problems and his goalkicking problems but was arguable a one time stand out number one in the comp. A solid and often spectacular season behind him, has years of top class footy left. The most mobile forward in the game.

Gilly1972
6 Nov 2006, 21:08
I love my smokies, i am taking Marc murphy :D :D :p

Pick 7 - Marc Murphy

blues4flag
7 Nov 2006, 08:15
Pick Eight - Barry Hall
Might be old, but the man is a champion, and doesn't seem to be slowing down. Was hoping to pick up Dean Cox, as there ain't many good rucks in the AFL, but Hall was the next best for mine, probably the only forward remaining worth pick eight. Toss up between him and Cousins, but as gun midfielders are much more common than gun KF, Hall was the obvious choice.

bluesforever
7 Nov 2006, 13:47
Pick 9 - Scott West

Very happy to pick up Westy at 9, was a toss up between him Cousins and Fevola. I went with West purely because he's the most consistant player in the AFL.

bluegal1983
7 Nov 2006, 14:34
Pick 10 - Ben Cousins

I am ecstatic that he is still around. Cousins is an absolute champion and is an asset to any team, even at 28 years of age.

Beagle_Charlie
8 Nov 2006, 16:47
Pick 11 - Chad Cornes

Going with a bit of a smokey here. Very versitile player who can take out CHB or CHF

NWTYRX
8 Nov 2006, 18:32
Pick 12 - Daniel Kerr

Man City Blues!
8 Nov 2006, 19:46
pick 13:

Brendan Fevola..

STAR FULL FORWARD> won coleman medal in wooden spoon side, imagine what he will do with the gun midfield I am going to assemble.

HBF
9 Nov 2006, 09:19
Pick 14 - Adam Cooney

gandaal
9 Nov 2006, 16:21
Just came back from work so you'll have to forgive me.

Pick 15 - Luke Hodge
Hodge is the second best young player in the comp, behind Judd, at present in my view and is the kind of quality player you can build a midfield around. He reminds me of a young Riccuitto.

Blues_Man
10 Nov 2006, 10:26
pick 16 I take Aaron Sandilands ...IMO will be the most dominant bigman in the game for the next 5 years .
pick 17 I take Danyle Pearce...Young exciting player with pace to burn

gandaal
10 Nov 2006, 16:02
Pick 18: Shaun Burgoyne

Gilly1972
10 Nov 2006, 17:45
Johnny, you can take my spot if you are happy with Marc Murphy as your first pick. I doubt my availability to commit to this in the next month.

By the way, HBF via PM #19 Luke Ball

Man City Blues!
10 Nov 2006, 21:52
Pick 20 Matthew Scarlett. Best full back in the game to hold down the full back spot for me.

NWTYRX
10 Nov 2006, 21:55
Pick 21 - Luke Darcy

Beagle_Charlie
10 Nov 2006, 22:03

Good quality ruckman who can get very good disposal tallies. Chose him over others because he is considerably younger. Probably some better mids, but seeing as good rucks are so rare, best to take one now.

Pick 29 - Nick Dal Santo

Thrilled he is still around at 29. Silky smooth midfielder who can be very damaging when on-song, he dipped slightly in 2006 from his AA 2005 form, but at just 22, has plenty of time to redeem himself.

Amazed he has lasted to this pick. Still only 28, so has a few good years left in him yet. IMO, he is still one of th better midfielders in the competition.

Now give me a minute to decide on m next pick, there are a few I am thinking of here.

Pick 33. Sam Mitchell

Was really unsure who to take with this pick. There were 4 or 5 players in serious contention for this spot. I figured that Sam would be the least likely to still be around by my next pick.

Sam is a gun, and at 24 years old (Happy Birthday for today, Sammy), he has plenty of good years ahead of him.

Pick 34. Lance Franklin Can't say he was really on my radar about 5 picks ago but then all the players that were including Dal Santo, Lloyd AND Mitchell got taken in the picks just before mine which has opened up Franklin to me. Let's just say it was a very very very tough choice between him and another player I am looking at, but his age and potential to be anything, the best freaking player in the land just gets him over the line for me. Might be a bit of a 'reach' here but I don't really mind for this sort of potential.

197cm matchwinners dont come along every day. Can switch from playing ruck to forward and back with uncanny ease. Injury-prone, but as soon as The Patient can get his body and mind right, the 24 year old will quickly set about making life difficult for other teams, as he did during his purple patch in 2005.

From ODN via PM:

Pick 38: Warren Tredrea - Once ranked in the top few players in the league and the best CHF at one stage. Turns 28 next month and his surgery has been successful so should still have a few good years left in him and there is no reason why he can't return to the upper echelon. A steal at this pick. I already have Nick Riewoldt so the idea is that these two will be able to rotate between CHF and FF to mix up the defensive matchups and also gain some respite from that long leading CHF role both can play.

Probably some better players in other positions around, but given the lack of key defenders left, best take one while their's still some around. Geez, I've been flip flopping on this one. You'd think it was life and death. In the end watching this midfielders get snapped up has had the desired result. Plenty left but not many you could consider class number one midfielders for their sides who have the experience to take that role right away. With that in mind, I've gone for a class inside midfielder who at just 25 was once considered among the best midfielders in the comp but for injury this year.

I will commence by saying this pick is HARD, unbelivably so. Even though I have a pick at 68, the two other players I want will definitely not be there then, barring a miracle. Anyway:

Pick 61: Daniel Cross
The chance to pick up this gem at pick 61 is simply too good to be true. Prolific has his name written next to it in the AFL dictionary and simply doesn't have a bad day. Finds the ball like a maniac, and with the silky delivery of Dal Santo to back him up, he will only get more damaging. Underrated, only 23 and will become a Scott West type in years to come.

There are a few that I looked at for this pick, and all play similar positions. However, the more youthful option has been pickedd...maybe the other will slip to my next picks.

Pick 66 - Leo Barry

deluxeman
15 Nov 2006, 14:59

Putting aside the fact that he is a tool, Didak is coming off a fine year - AA status as arguably the games best goal sneak.
