London - Billy Bowden and Steve Bucknor will be the umpires for England's first match of their Ashes defence against Australia later this month, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Thursday.
New Zealander Bowden and Bucknor from the West Indies will stand in the first Test in Brisbane starting on Nov 23.
They will share umpiring duties with South African Rudi Koertzen and Pakistan's Aleem Dar during the five-Test series. Koertzen and Bucknor will stand in the second Test in Adelaide.
New Zealand's Jeff Crowe will be the match referee for the first three Tests, with Sri Lanka's Ranjan Madugalle in charge for the final two. The same four umpires were used when England reclaimed the Ashes last year.

Disappointed Doctrove did not get a go.....seems a pretty good ump- maybe retribution for the Oval problems with Hair?

Not much to pick from when you take out the Aussies and the Poms....really would have liked to see them bend the rules here and allowed Taufel or Benson (the English umpire on the panel, if I remember correctly) umpire.....
Oh, well- we'll be entertained by eddie's constant complaints about Aussie Billy and Blind Bucknor....unless the mods have toned him down.

IMO Steve Bucknor is starting to struggle. Seems to miss a lot and then pulls a decision from his hat. Was a terrific ump once but IMO he has seen better days.

As for Bowden. I personally do not mind his antics, though the Australian team are clearly not impressed. Do not rate him as an ump though.

Bucknor and Dar? Oh spiffing, two of the worst umpires in the world. Bucknor used to be good but he's getting past it. Dar's even worse.

If both countries agree to use particular umpires, then it shouldn't matter where they are from. It seems a shame Taufel and Benson will never get to be involved in an Ashes series no matter how good they are. Taufel is regularly voted the best umpire in the world - would England prefer to have him umpiring despite his nationality?

Non-neutral umpires could create problems though. Imagine the outcry if Australia said that they were happy to have non-neutral umpires in Ashes series but demanded neutrality against Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Yes they have but I dont think Aussie Billy and Blind Bucknor fall under the list of things I cant say :)

Aussies should be very happy with those 4

The Aussies ? Billy was voted the worst international umpire by the Australian cricketers (and by a significant margin). I am guessing the Poms will be the happy ones.

Personally I have always thought accusing a ump of bias is fairly silly. Not all are good, but I would think every one that is on the international body is impartial.

Aussie Billy finds it very hard to stick that crooked finger up whenever an Aussie batsman gets hit on the pads, its the hardest thing for him to do

Yet when the Aussies are bowling he has that finger in the air before they start appealling

Lying is bad for your image, eddie. Especially defamatory lies. You're a dishonest person.

As for the topic at hand...someone needs to retire Bucknor. He can't fkin see, he shouldn't be umpiring.

No, that's a biased and bitter perception that you have tried to mold into a fact that you simply cannot prove. Hence, you are a liar and dishonest, offensive defamer.

Telling such vicious lies is a poor character trait.

So I assume you attack the Aussie posters who claim Billy cost them the 2nd test? Oh sorry, you are another Aussie hypocrite :)

No. Because they don't take a couple of bad decisions and try to mold them into a 'fact' of Bowden's bias, like you do.

That's because they're annoyed fans, whereas you're a dishonest liar.

No the Aussie fans who claimed they only lost the Ashes due to umpires were well within their rights but suggesting the Aussies get a superb run from the umpires is a lie, right

Sorry, ed- didn't mean for you to get into a debate over it- but thought I remembered you saying something about having to tone down on the umps....wasn't meaning you to get into an argument over this...leave JM to his attitude, and get back to Manuka....celebrate Giles and Strauss....

Nope. Complaining about instances of umpiring failings like they do - fine.

Trying to claim there is an actual bias, like you do - fallacious and dishonest lie.

You really are showing terrible character traits. Why you would make up such nasty and bitter lies is beyond me.
