View Full Version : Are Carlton one of the top 16 teams in the country?

In all seriousness, do you think Carlton are worthy of a spot in the AFL?
On pretty much any criteria you could ask for, they aren't worhty of being called the 16th best club in Australia.
Let's start with on-field talent, Carlton are simply not as good as Sandringham, who have won the last 3 VFL flags, compare that to Carlton's last three seasons and you'll understand my point. Phil Read is better than any midfielder currently at Carlton - and even he has been delisted from Sandringham. I'm sure there's some WAFL and SANFL teams that would give them a run for their money. The biggest shock to me, is that Carlton's reserves side, the Northern Bullants, are actually a better side than Carlton - how does that work I hear you ask? Dunno, it's got me buggered as well.
You could argue that this could just be part of an up and down cycle for Carlton, and that with their suporter base it's ludicrous to consider ejecting them from the AFL. I would say your argument is stupid. Money wise they don't have anywhere near as much money as some EFL sides, let alone VAFA sides. I'd much rather see Ringwood, Vermont or Noble Park in the AFL than Carlton, as they're run far more professionally, and I know the AFL wouldn't have to prop them up with cash. Better still, get Old Xav's or even Marcellin in there, better yet again - bring back the Uni Blues (the only real Blues imo).
I'd have Carlton currently ranked around the 35th best side in Australia (just being pipped for 34th by the Easter Rangers U/16 team. It's time we demand the AFL put Carlton where they belong.

The question really should be:
Is rick James one of the top 16 ********heads in the country? To that I say the answer is emphatically yes!

Marcellin got relegated to B-Grade this year. Should have gone with Old Hailibury.
Blues have sucked, but they will also be a freakishly good side in 2-3 years. Gibbs, Murphy, Simpson, Walker, Fevola, Waite, Fisher, Kennedy etc will be frightening to watch.
Think the Blues and the Bombers may play off for the 2010 flag!

I'm sure Parrot will claim their in the top 20.
I'd personally slot them around 28th. Half of Division 1 (Vermont, Donvale, Noble Park, East Burwood) are easily better. I should know, I umpire in that league.
Although now Carlton have cleaned up their 2003 retarted recruitment scheme comprising of Morrell, Harford, Clarke, Bowyer, McGrah, Mott and other such lemons, they may chime in for an 18th-22nd ranking.

maybe any team that has not won a premiership in the last 40 years should get kicked out of the AFL. That would be a good way to get rid of pretenders like melbourne!

And sorry for the spelling errors, I was in a hurry....some of us work you know!
Now I can explain to you why you know nothing about our national game. Sandringham have won the past 3 VLF flags 'cos they play against other VFL sides...If Carlton were in the VFL they would win by 10goals each week. Who exactly would Sandringham put on Fevola for example??....Chad Liddel perhaps? LOL
Even the Fitzroy side of 1996 would have beaten any other football side outside the AFL that year.
As said earlier....you are a tool. And Carlton will win something before your precious underachieving Demons will.:)
