First of all I do love my footy team, I will support them until the day I die, HOWEVER.....
I was listening to the game tonight and I must say I am most disappointed in the way they played. Granted, I did not see them play but going by the commentary it was most disappointing. If they had only focused and kicked goals instead of points it might have been a different game.
As a Geelong supporter you might think I would be used to losing games.... I thought if they put their hearts into it maybe the outcome would have been different, but alas the siren has just gone and we have indeed lost the game by at least 20 points or more.
If Geelong wants to gain more members and more supporters I think the coach and the players need to take a long hard look at how they play. I really wish I knew what we need to get that premiership, but I have no clue!
Maybe it is the heart in the game that is missing, I am just one disappointed supporter tonight.
Any thoughts from the anyone else?
Disappointed supporter who is trying to keep smiling

Not a great game but some young players played well.Kingsley,Enright,Ling & Corey were good.
I was disappointed with Ricco [only flashed in and out],Mcgrath [struggled],Scarlett [Lucky the volleyball didn't kick better],Harley [bad game].

I think this game is best forgotton... lucky I already had about 5 beers before the game started so I wasn't too disapppointed with the loss. There were a few good signs, but we desperately need these kids to stand up and make a name for themselves in the AFL otherwise Geelong wont improve on last year's record.
Good games from Kingsley, Enright, Corey, Ling and Riccardi (most of the time) but not enough quality in our midfield at this stage and some of our decision making under pressure is very suspect.
Well, good riddance to the wizz fizzer cup and yada yada yada, bring on round one I say.
Anyone for another beer??? :D:D:D
Go Cats!! :)

Yeah, I'll take you up on that. Would love to, after witnessing tonight's wretched display (albeit from 6PR's webcast alone).
For those who focus on the difference between winning and losing in the preseason, it all comes down to a simple fact: The Cats allowed themselves to get vastly outplayed in the final term. They enterted the period down by a single point, were ahead by small margins for short periods in the last term, only for the Eagles to run them off the park.
They only had to win by 17 points to gain their last-four spot in the competition (thanks to the quick math I did following Richmond's win over Carlton). However, they seemed to lack the emotional incentive to beat West Coast by the three-goal margin required for that final term. Is this the fault of the young players, or not enough leadership being exhibited by the veterans of the team? Or is neither the case, rather being a case of a combination of each?
Am I making too big a case out of a preseason competition? No, absolutely not! Look at the Geelong trophy cabinet-- awfully bare. Winning the Wizard Cup would have brought a sense of morale to the organization, and certainly a last-four showing would have arguably inspired a pick-me-up in the club's membership drive. The Cats therefore dropped the ball, big-time, in my honest opinion.
Chalk it up to being done with the preseason, thankfully, and bring on Round 1 proper. Coach Thompson and his players have a few weeks to sort matters out before Essendon come calling.
Cheers,
William

you_idiot,
I am not too worried at this stage... it's always the same line... if you win it matters in the pre-season, if you dont then if doesn't make a rats a*se of difference.
Well, after 6 beers it doesn't anyway, and therfore it's time for bed me thinks!! ;););)
Go Cats!! :)

Here's something that might make some of you cry, West Coast played without Cousins(our #1 midfielder), Phil Matera (our #1 small forward), Banfield (our #1 tagger), Morrison(our #1 utility) as well as Gaspar, Sierakowski, Prior and Collica who would all be in our starting 18.
Things are not looking too good for Geelong, hopefully they can get their act together because without good onfield results their debt will only grow.

Reckon you'll be able to find room for all those? D Humphrey-Smith and his 3 colleagues definitely staked their claim with their collective BOG performance

Enjoy your glory while it lasts, west coast will be lucky to get out of the bottom two or three places when the real contest begins. The wizard cup means absolutely **** all as witnessed by Essendons recent performances in the comp and if cousins gets injured and missess any length of time, west coast will win themselves a wooden spoon.

Why would that make me cry? You West Coast fans are getting a little over confident aren't you? The season is yet to begin.
So losing a pre-season game is the end of the world is it? Our performances with a young inexperienced side with our average losing margin of 13pts I am reasonably happy. I'd like to have won more games but I'm not writing the season off, when it hasn't begun as you seem to be. Losses in the pre-season cup don't immediately spell disaster as you seem to be letting on.
Also we were missing, Sanderson (Our B&F), Lord (Good goalkicker), White (Key forward), Snell (good crumber) compared to the players you mentioned. Do you really think Collica, Prior, Sierakowski and Gaspar make a difference to your side?

But would ANY of those players be in the top 300 AFL players this year ?
Me thinks not. :p :p

Like someone said in a different thread, if you're on the winning side the Wizard cup means a lot, if you're on the losing side the Wizard cup means squat :D
Catman, us WC fans aren't getting a little over confident we're just enjoying a win, which in the past 2 yrs has been a rare occurance. In terms of player comparisons, I think Cousins, Banfield, Phil Matera and Morrison are of a slightly higher calibre than Sanderson, White, Snell and Lord.
P&P, who the hell is D Humphrey-Smith, lol :p

Travis Gaspar is the brother of Darren Gasper. He's a very talented key position player who's in his 3rd season now. He has had limited game time due to growth spurts and injuries. However, in the games he played he has shown he can hold his own at CHF and CHB, most eagles fans are tipping him to be Jakovich's successor at CHB. None of you may have heard of him, but the fella will a quality player of the future and is already an integral part of the eagles defense. Darren Gaspar actually reckons his brother is better than he was at his age.

Its people like you that destroy perfectly good threads! I didn't troll even the slightest bit in this thread, nor have any of the other Geelong supporters been angered by my posts. So why the hell are you posting crap like that? huh?
I wasn't angered by your post.... and i wasn't the one to wreck a perfectly good thread...and stop talking crap..
your the one who wrecked the thread with that sissy photo of gasper and if i remember rightly most of the players you mentioned were in your side last year when we thumped you by over 10 goals so i can't see them making too much difference when they come back..
