Pre-season Set to Rumble

Fremantle have received permission from the AFL for three unlisted players, Michael Warren, Benet Copping and Darren Rumble, to train with the club in the lead-up the 2006 NAB AFL Draft on Saturday week and next month's pre-season draft.
Rumble, a 21 year old key defender from Subiaco, is looking to impress at the next level after two outings as the state full back and two WAFL premierships in 2004 and 2006.
“Darren has been an outstanding full back in the WAFL over the past few years,” said Peter German, Fremantle’s newly appointed Assistant Coach and former Subiaco Premiership coach.
“He is 21 years old but he works hard and has great body strength. The step up would suit his body type and he has shown right from the start in his development that he can progress to the next level.
“Darren deserves the chance at an AFL club and given the opportunity and the luck you need to succeed in footy, he could certainly have an impact at an AFL level.”
Already familiar faces at Fremantle, Warren and Copping were both de-listed at the end of the season and Fremantle coaching staff will assess the players at training over the coming weeks.
Warren, who was elevated to the Senior List after two years on the Rookie List at the end of the 2005 season, played one match with Fremantle in 2006, his debut against Melbourne in Round 7 at the MCG. He had a consistent year at Claremont in the backline and continues to improve.
Copping, the club’s fourth round selection at the 2004 National Draft spent his two years on the primary list developing with East Perth in the WAFL.
The squad officially kicks off pre-season training on Monday 27 November, and no doubt the trio will make the most of the invitation and be out to impress on the training track.

I'll be filthy if we use one of our national draft selections on Copping or Warren. Don't know anything about Rumble, if the club rate him we should pick him up in the rookie draft.

Warren is a very strange one. We have a better back-up ruckman, although not "ready", in Warnock. It's a position we are vulnerable for next year only at this stage, and if we suffered injuries we'd need someone to pinch hit.
Copping I guess could go on the Rookie list, as could Rumble.
Darren Rumble. I love his name. Pick him up. Do it.

i suggested that we should draft rumble 2 years ago when we had those low picks (which we used on copping and stribling)
i think he would be good for a backline like ours which is athletic and attacking,he is an old fashioned'glove' like defender who doesnt rack up many stats
he is also "big bodied" which seems to be a priority these days

The club should take a punt on Rumble if he is worth it.
The club should nopt take a punt on Copping.
Are they in premiership mode, because they are clearly not if they are getting long term projects like they have the last few years that may not even ever be good for AFL at all.

I'm fine with the club getting long term prospects. I would doubt that any of the players we draft will play next year, and unlikely the following year. Even somebody developed like Rumble. He would be insurance I would think, because we seem to have the talls down the back already. Also, a couple of our backmen have the ability to go forward if an injury happens there, and Rumble could come into the backline.

I think Copping has done enough to see himself rookie listed. The clubs come this far with him!
Would like to see a bit of Rumble in the pre-season if he gets rookie listed.

I have never wanted us to draft someone more than this Rumble character. Purely and simply for the name and also because it would be great to get a Robbie Haddril V2.0
Is it too soon to commit to picking him up with my Buddy draft pick...Fabian Francis style?
hope he's good the mind shudders at
the fumble, crumble, stumble, mumble, bumble, tumble prefixs that'll be used if he's carp
Having watched a bit of Subi over the past few seasons. Rumbs is someone who could definitely succeed in the AFL. Freo could do a lot worse then to pick him up.

Just did some 'research'...this from his profile on the Subi website

Not Copping and Warren, pul-eeze. Warren not up to AFL standards... Copping both a nob and a dud. :thumbsd:

Copping a nob, that would not amaze me, as he has been mixing with the crowd at the North Perth Royals.
No need for Warren and Copping. Thumbs up for Rumble.

What makes you say that?
For all the knockers of Copping going either back on the list or rookie list, Ask yourselves this. At pick 79 who is better? The 79th best untried 17 yo or a guy that we've developed on our list for two years and know exactly what he's like and capable of, who was predicted to be a top 30 pick in his year in the draft?
The only reason he dropped down the pecking order and we snapped him up lateish was that he was very skinny and needed time to develop. We've spent that time and money on him and he has developed with us and may develop further.
I'm not inside the club so I don't know but if he's a half decent guy then I think they could put him back on the list.

Sorry - I'm overtired after supervising a 6-day camp for 11 and 12 years olds, and I just arrived back at 3pm this afternoon.... Might have been a bit unfair.
Just what I've heard about him. I could be wrong (hope I'm wrong). Some guy on the Adelaide board said he knew him when he got drafted, and as soon as he heard he put on a Freo guernsey and kept it on for days. So he can't be all that bad. :) Based on that, I s'pose sticking him on the rookie list is no bigger punt than taking a 17 or 18 year old at pick 79....

Copping's manager was told that he would be with the club next season, hopefully it is on the rookie list.

IMO we should Rookie list Copping & Rumble & see what is available in the AFL & Pre Season Drafts.

I havent seen enough of Copping or Warren to comment to be perfectly honest.
It would be interesting to see the stats on how we have gone with players we have re-drafted though.

Rumble is too slow to be an AFL player.

Wouldn't Crowley and Haines be the only two players that we have delisted then redrafted?

Thats right IP an oversight on my part, we should use our three picks on young players in the AFL Draft
