Chasing the Dream

Queensland is the only State in Australia who can't work out the benefits of daylight saving.

Now that WA is having a 3 year trial, that leaves us on our own as states go, but why?

Peter Beattie says it will cause more skin cancer, but the Australian Cancer Council says it doesn't. Beatties reply is "What would they know?"

Farmers says it upsets the cows, but I don't know of a cow that wears a wrist watch.

Some parents say that it is too hard to get kids to bed when it is still light at 7.30pm (in the SE corner admittedly). But what about when it is light at 4.30am? Wouldn't it be just as hard to get them back to sleep.

Does it fade the curtains? That is where I rest my case.

Beattie should follow the lead of WA and instigate a trial, which could end with a referendum at the next State Election in 2009. Being an hour behind the Eastern States is a joke and bad for business. I live on the Gold Coast and my work takes me between Coolangatta and Tweed and the problems it causes is endless. Parrents who work in Qld and live in NSW having to pick children up from day care ect is madness.

I will now remove myself from my soapbox and try and work out what time it is in Sydney:o

IIRC, weren't we werne duped about 10 years by the government into voting against daylight saving...ridiculous. Although I will expect sympathy even from you guys;). Autumn in Tokyo (now) gets dark around 5:30 and will get worse when winter sets in.

I loved daylight savings on my trips to Melbourne...nothing like drinking for 5 hours in the daytime!

From an 'enjoying the warm weather' point of view, I'm not sure that Qld really needs daylight savings because it's such a nice climate anyways! BUT on the other hand, I don't see any harm in it?

I guess it's up to the Queenslanders to decide, doesn't fuss me as long as the people are happy with the choice made. :thumbsu:
