Well we have taken 2 of the better midfielders in this draft, plus one of the best Key-Forwards. I'd say we're doing fairly well!

A super Draft Camp has elevated his status in this pool significantly. The Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Geelong have all been linked with Hogan. But if the Dogs want him, they would probably have to claim him here, as he may not lasts until their next selection at No.61 - their third overall. The Cats are also believed to be a strong admirer of Hogan's yet their next selection is at No.57 and their only other 'live' pick (Hawkins has already been recruited at No.41) before then is at No.25. That appears an unlikely scenario at this point. Hogan will also be right in the mix for the Hawks at No.56, should he not be snapped up by the Dogs.
Highlights/achievements: Midfielder with good feel for the game, making good decisions with the ball and smart around goals. Tough, durable, he is a one touch player and strong overhead for his size. A standout performer at the NAB AFL Draft Camp with results including: 20m Sprint (2.91sec - top three per cent, beep test (15.4 - top four per cent), repeat sprint time (24.67sec - ranked No.1) and Three km (9.55sec - top two per cent) highlighting his performances. hes one of those blokes who impressed at the draft camp. interesting to see connors and allen go with the two picks directly after ours.

From AFL Draft Tracker:
"Midfielder with good feel for the game, making good decisions with the ball & smart around goals. Tough, durable, he is a one touch player and strong overhead for his size. A standout performer at the NAB AFL Draft Camp with results including: 20m Sprint (2.91sec-Top 3%), Beep Test (15.4-Top 4%), Repeat Sprint Time (24.67sec-Ranked No 1) and 3km (9.55sec-Top 2%) highlighting his performances."
Sounds like an athlete with footy smarts - but what's his skills like?
3 mids & Tommy - We've done well :)

Very happy with our picks, although I would've rathered Conners than Hogan but in the end we'll find out who the better player is in a few years.

I managed to predict the Cats first two selections http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277502&page=8(hey, 3 if you count Hawkins - ok, maybe not ..), absolutely stoked we snagged Selwood, he and Hawkins will lead Geelong into the next decade. GFC has had an eye on Nathan Djerkurra for some time, not at all suprised we nabbed him.
Very pleased with the outcome overall, Hogan a fair enough late pick too .. :thumbsu:

Can someone just remind me where we came for clearance stats last season? I am not big on stats but weren't we down the very bottom. If so, is Selwood the man that can rectify this.. His brother described him as like Luke Ball in the paper.. You can never have too many of that type if you ask me. Some would of wanted a pace merchant but this kids credentials are hard to look past. Furthermore, I see he did a cartilage and not a ligament. That means this cat still has all his lives intact. However, I am no expert but a knee without cartilage could lead to the bone on bone situation that Hocking and Voss suffered late in there careers. Is there any medicos out there that can clarify this?

Without the details of his injury, it's pretty hard to pass comment. But yeah, in terms of stability IF the ligaments are ok thats very positive- it means that all the essential movements like pivoting and changes of direction should be uneffected. Plus, it means he isn't really at an increased risk of re-injuring it. But cartilage damage is an unknown quantity. If bad, it means constant inflammation and fluid accumulation in the joint, needing frequent steroid and pain killing injections as well as the odd arthroscope. Pain, lose cartilage bodies in the joint and increased recovery times tend to be the limiting factors. But generally this sort of thing takes a while to occur- not that likely after a single injury (unless it is an absolute shocker). Furthermore, there is no way he would have been drafted where he was if the news on his knee was that bad- obviously it is regarded as something that can be managed for now. It is a cloud over his head, but I remember a bloke called Judd had one too....

You guys did fantastic imo. Selwood will help with the clearances but even more importantly is likely to be a great leader for you which I think you could use. Djerrkura could also be a great player. Plenty of pace, good skill had has a bit of flair that could help. Both these players were guys I was hoping the Lions would pick so I am jealous.
Hogan is a bit of a risk but with his athletic talent if he comes on he could really help as well.
Well done to your draft team.

Ive never seen Hogan play, or even heard of him before we drafted him today but from what I read I believe he is a calculated risk we are taking.
We have got 3 very good players with our first three picks and we have gone with a skinny kid that Turner believes has alot of ability. His draft results are amazing and its said he has good decision making.
Hopefully he will learn alot playing in the VFL next year with Tudor

suprised turner didnt try to draft his son again :P
speed is whats needed down at geelong, and djerrkura, along with varcoe developing will bring some excitment down to skilled

Heard on 3AW that varcoe is apparently training the house down at Kardinia Park. Probably just the usual propaganda, but hey, better than hearing he is a lemon.

i wasnt happy with selwood at first, but taking djerrkura at 25 balances everything out there. weve covered some midfield deficiencies there and you cant argue with that. reckon we could have done better than hogan at 57, particularly as i think both connors and allen will be players, but im not sure if this kid will be.
still its my belief we have picked up 3 players who will go on and play their fair share of games in the hoops.

Yeah I would have prefered Prismall, Connors or Allen there instead of Hogan, but locals usually work nicely for us

If Varcoe continues to develop as the word from skilled suggests then we'll have another jet in the side from 2007 onwards. He's getting his first preseason since summer of 2004-2005 and loving it.

I'm absolutely stoked with our picks.
People see Hogan as a bit of a risk due to him being such a athlete. But at least he has shown he has great football ability as he averaged 18 touches and kicked 21 goals for the Falcons.
I'm also really happy we got Djerrkura at 25 too. I'm surprised Essendon didn't take him at 20. Tough, quick and very talented.
Selwood and Hawkins speak for themselves. Guns.
This is the first time for years that I haven't felt disappointed about the draft.

If Selwood had of played more games this year he would of been pick 1. saw him in 2005 and he was absolutely breath taking. I wanted essendon to take him, and in 2-3 years time everyone will see why. Next Geelong Captain+ Elite midfielder
Interesting to see in the Age today, the Doggies almost took Hogan at pick 45 (it was their 2nd pick I think).
