Why? - we got quality players who are genuine footballers with the first two. What are you hoping for in the last pick?

Someone called Calib Mourish is our 3rd pick. 189cm and 84kg according to the draft tracker.
Caleb is a huge (194cm) ruck rover from Geraldton. He is rumored to be a very good player, but he didn't come up too well in the WA Draft camp. Very happy to get him though.

This is the info footygoss had on these 2 fellas.
http://www.footygoss.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=31086&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
Clayton Collard - South Fremantle
Almost in the same mould as teammate Jetta but is slightly more suited to the midfield. Played nine league games in 2006 including 18 possessions, nine marks and five goals against Swan Districts. Suffering from osteitis pubis, which restricted him at draft camp, but should still be a top 15 selection with a chance of going in the top 10.
Brock O'Brien - Peel Thunder
Physical midfielder/half back flanker in the same mould Brock McLean. Thrives on physical contests and impressed at last two national championships at U18 level. Also played a handful of games in Peel's league side. Not lightning quick but has solid pace and appears physically ready to make the next step. A definite top 20 hope.

I was just thinking the exact same thing.
Oh my god i couldn't be any happier. Too get those first two at 31 and 52 is amazing. Have watched both in senior WAFL games and definately have what it takes.
Mourish could be special, he also could be a dud. Can't expect better than him at 77 though. The sort of kid with massive scope for improvement. Has the build and the footy skills. Just a matter of whether he can add fitness and AFL smarts to his resume.

Nah he missed out. Would be nice if we could maybe pick him up with a rookie pick.
Other Freo-related stuff from today:
(i) Looks as though Michael Warren's AFL career is over. Training with the club but didn't get re-drafted and too old to rookie. Wonder if he got a DCM yesterday...
(ii) Copping still a chance to be rookied...
(iii) Rumble still a chance to be rookied - and as 21 he could still be a regular rookie, not necessarily a "mature-aged" rookie...
(iv) If Copping and Rumble are rookied, then we'll take just two more rookies in a couple of weeks time.

Stoked with our picks! All the boys look physically developed too, so strong wafl form could see a couple of debuts next year. Brock O'Brien has played mainly down back, hopefully he moves into the midfield for peel next season.
Hopefully we get Kelly + Copping + Rumble + another local midfielder in the rookie draft.
It's 5 years since we drafted 3 WA boys at the national draft.

From what I have read about Mourish, that may well have been the case.

Probably on the wing or at half forward. Has a big leap so might be suited to playing as a lead up half forward. I say we give him number 26!

Can't see how The Shadow is a risk really. A pick that late in the draft is not expected to be a "successful" footballer, and is really an ideal selection for a player that may not make it, but if he does, then GOLD!

Shame that. We occasionally got reasonable coverage from Nine... kiss that goodbye now. ;)
Thought they were desperate for Brad Smith?? They should've done the "righty" after appealing to have him on their rookie list and taken him with their last pick. Unless they are saving a spot for him at the PSD... or is their list full now? Oh well - their club, their business...

Thommo will be the top dog at nine if Cometti returns to seven as expected. Will be interesting to see how he handles the weekly slot with Connolly, Chris and Denis had good chemistry.

Lol. True but if you go through all the phantom drafts , both Collard & O'brien woul avervage < pick 20.
The one that excites me the most (and if you go through the thread) is Caleb Mourish who could be anything and I was stoked that He was still there at 77.
Considering Micheal Johnson was effectivly Pick 80+ Woodhouse seems to be ignoring the good work Gerard is doing at Clontarf for reasons unknown

Mourish is The Shadow Man.
No-one knows how tall he is.
How fast he is.
What his hair colour is.
How to spell his name.
And it sounds like no recruiters know there way to regional WA to check out out what lurks in the dusty grounds of the state. But we know. The Shadow Man. The legend begins.

He either ran dead or is seriously unfit. The goss around his home town says he struggled to reach 10 in the beep test.

He was only added to the state draft camp list late (2 weeks before) and probably didn't have time to train and get himself fit properly for it.

Not that i think it is that important anyway cos with a couple pre-seasons they will fitten him up, but i think hif he had serious aspirations to play AFL he would be fit enough anyway.

He got 9.7 for the beep and over 3.2 for 20m. You would hope he is playing dead...12yr old girls get better results than that.

I think the significance of those results has been overstated when you consider that he's been playing country football up until this year. No fitness coaches, physios, dieticians or all the other stuff that comes with playing regular league football. There's no reason why his fitness wont improve after two-three years of being drilled into shape.

The thing with recruiting The Shadow Man, with all the "concerns" about his fitness etc, is that at the very late pick that he was, he was 1) the best available and 2) has a big potential upside. Who would you rather that we recruited with that pick? Not saying there wouldn't be alternatives, but a big bodied, agressive and skilful player is worth the pick easily.
If he turns out to be someone who is unable to get himself fit for whatever reason, then he is cut loose after a couple of years and joins the other late picks which didn't make it. No drama.
