Taylor is supposedly still in the developing stage (age 24).
Emagine the depth in the team if he could step up another level, after this pre-season.
I thought I saw Taylor have abit of dash in one game in Brisbane.
Has he got some pace for a big fellow?
Does anyone think he can step up and hold his own in the team?

I never got to see many Hawk games on tv due to living on the Gold Coast. I must say again...good ridance channel 9

In a word, NO, I think we've seen the big robot just about peak. He is competitive and will play some good games, but I don't ever think he'll hold down a spot as ourt first or second ruck.
Invest in Bailey, and now Renouf.

Agreed.

I'd lost all respect for Simon Taylor before he was even a Hawk, and was dissapointed he would be playing for the team I loved and barracked for so much. The guy is a prick in real life.

Was okay for a first year player in 2005, no reason why he can't improve. Would take a slight miracle though, showed nothing this year. Maybe Renouf's recruitment might force him to train harder.

He will never be a number one ruck, but I think he can be a solid number 2, he knows how to get his hand on the ball in the taps he just doesnt get the ball around the field.

I hope he can step up and be a solid back up for anytime Bailey is out of the team.

I grew up playing footy with Simon at school and he's a great bloke.

By definition you can only have one number one ruck. Taylor fills a need. Campbell has had one good year. Bails is still a work in progress. Mcentee - who knows. Renouf??

Tails is a big bodied back up ruck. A must have on a well balanced list.

true, i think you can only have so many ruckman, i.e with brisbane in recent years

i have a feeling taylor may be able to have some impact in the next few years to come but when the likes of bailey, renouf and possibly mcentee develop along with campbell, i cant see much room for him

hows id mcentee going? ive heard hes going good but that his kicking so-so

Spot on. If the clubs wants 4 ruckman on the list (which I think we should) then Taylor is fine as the 4th ruckman. If injuries fall he is a capable back up. No point using another top 30 pick on another ruck who may only be there in case of injuries.

Absolutely. Got some size on him. As an ex rower and with a leg injury looks like he has really put some hard muscle on the upper torso area.

If he can get his legs right I think he'll have a good season and really press for senior selection.

Renouf according to Hawks will be ready to play senior footy in 2007.

Exactly, and if he develops his game further and becomes more than just a backup its a bonus, if he doesn't we've at worst got insurance that we at least have a big bodied ruck to compete at centre bounces, unlike Carlton and St Kilda who have very thin ruck stocks.

Renouf will add another one on the list, and the competition is good because it makes all of Campbell, Bailey, Taylor, McEntee and Renouf work harder because there is limited spots.

Taylor has played footy for a while but only really started to take it seriously in the last 2-3 years so given that he may still have some improvement in him IMO.

Most definitely YES, our own Alessio, who was a match winning thorn in our side on a few occasions.

Thats amazing that we already have got another gun ruckman to cover Spida at pick 24 so now I understand why Pelchin wanted to get better then 33 from Syndey so we could get him before the other 16 clubs picked him up because he would of gone before 56 because we got Kennedy for 40.

The thing is we dont really need him to step up to no 1 ruck to provide great value on our list. If he can be a good 2nd or 3rd ruckman taking the pressure off campbell and allowing bailey and renouf to develop then he will have more than done his job. Has also shown can be a target up fwd at times and is has definitely a big strong body to cope with demands of playing as a ruck.
