FOOTBALL rivalries are legion, but before Lachlan Hansen has even played a game he has established a rivalry that is predicted to last a footballing lifetime.

Hansen is a centre half-back taken by the Kangaroos. Scott Gumbleton a centre half-forward selected immediately ahead of him by Essendon. The pair will play on each other. Many times.

"A few people mentioned it could be Carey-Jakovich like between them," Kangaroos recruiting manager Neville Stibbard said.

I really liked Hansen also, but theyre both so similar in their attributes that it only came down to where we needed either the most. Regardless, more than happy with Gumbleton and what a great rivalry that would be incidently.
