Just picked him up from the dealer today. brand spanking new Hyundai Getz 1.4.
Loving it so far. :thumbsu: Surprisingly zippy for a 1.4. Was tearing it up the Gateway on the way home weaving in and out between trucks.

I was tossing up whether to get them, but its either that, or get a Nintendo Wii next week.
And the Wii won.

i think the problem stopping ashli from driving is being able to see over the steering wheel lol might need a booster seat lol

What a first car they were.....pity mine ended in ruins!! (funnily enough i still came out ahead, advantages to have an insurance manager for a father :) )

Haha, mine too. I never looked after it properly. It's a wonder it lasted as long as it did.
Ideal for a first car though. Durable, fuel efficient. The "A to B" car I called it.

It was fairly reliable for such an old car... that was until it met the centenary guard rails!!

IIRC correctly there are a lot of accidents on that road. In fact my only semi serious prang was going inbound on the Western Freeway. I was driving too fast and when I hit the brakes I aqua-planed and spun into the side barrier. Wasn't too bad though. There weren't any cars around (it was the middle of the night) and I was able to drive off.

In 2 weeks time I'll be 'mature aged' by employment/unemployment standards. I am still yet to buy a brand new car. :( I actually now work in the motor industry, you'd think this would probably be a good time to do it, and.....well and you think that thought probably would have/should have occured time sometime earlier than it did while I was typing this post.....:o

Just got ploughed into by a big ass truck at a roundabout. :(
Arm and back a bit sore too :(
The guy is insured, but my car just wont feel the same again. :(

That is a bastard of a thing. I spent $10K on a car in 1996 (it was a lot of money for me!) only to have an accident within a couple of months. Of course, as a uni student, I didn't have comprehensive insurance and was devastated. But, to this day, I still drive around in the same with the left side all dinged up! 12 years worth of transportation - even if the appearance is pretty shabby. Now it is our second car but it has served me well.

Hope you're okay BrownDog. Have you had X-rays done yet? The third party insurance would cover it, would it not?

Sorry to hear that BD. I'm a Hyundai driver myself and my mums got your model too and i have to say it's a great drive for such a small car.
So i guess it's going to be a write-off? I hope it's insured for more than it's worth for your sake.

Panel beater reckons it wont be a write-off.
Back half is a bit of a mess though.
Other guys insurance will have to cover full repairs.

Although this may seem like an unfair generalisation, truck drivers are ****ing maniacs. I am so sick of them roaring past me at 120 ks/hr, nose-to-arse behind the car in front.

OK this has to be said.
Is there a systematic problem with the way the Lions Board drive??
First Warwick, then BrownDog and now Chez can't see his girl (although there are already rumours circulating that she is not too upset:p) and why??? Due to car accidents....
Maybe the money raised in the sponsorship thread could be applied to sponsoring a few Lions posters in a defensive driving couse or two....:D:D:D
I for one will check that mycar insurance is up to date.:thumbsu:

I must admit when I see that big truck roaring up behind me I always worry. I know that in a one on one, my Carolla is not going to win if we should accidently make contact.

Can't speak for the others, but there is not much defensive driving you can do when you are stopped at a roundabout and a truck smashes into you from behind.

OK then, maybe you need the Offensive Driving School.
Doesn't get as much publicity as the Defensive Driving School, but is equally as effective.
Their motto is "They have to catch you first":D

By the way, I think I have another answer to all of your problems.
My good wife rang me last week to tell me some woman reversed into her as she was waiting at a car park. I asked what the damage was and as she was a little rattled she went on about the front bumper etc etc etc.
I got home and had a look at it, and seeing as though water is scarce and I haven't washed the car for a while, it did not look too bad. I started to wonder if the impact was as hard as my wife had gone on about.
Anyway, to make a long story longer...... we went down to the local shops yesterday, (I needed the Herald Sun, and some bread, but I digress, actaully picked up some sushi for lunch as well) and my wife was whispering something to me, couldn't make out what she was going on about. Anyway, it happened that the car that hit her was in front of us at the carpark, so I went and checked out the damage on her car.
Well suffice to say, we have a RAV4, and the car that hit us was a big NIssan X-Trail, and I stand by the fact that you can hardly see the damage on our car (but it obviously needs to be fixed as her insurance is covering it:D), but the damage on her car was fairly extreme when compared.
I can only put it down to one thing.
Personalised Brisbane Lions plates.
Our car is just tougher:thumbsu:

In Bangkok the rear vision mirrors are about twice as long/wide as in Oz - they need to be because you need eyes in the back and sides of your head over there. It's a real eye-opener watching a large truck or elephant charging up from behind - kind of like a 3D Imax experience. Everyone always laughs at me when I put on a seat-belt or use my indicators (the Thais just toot their horns). Thank God they're all Buddhists - they show remarkable patience compared to Aussie drivers (apparently the Buddha amulets on the dash are your only real protection should disaster strike anyway so I'm told), but I still can't seem to see the invisible third lane which runs down the middle of the road

Wow. That's half the value of what the car probably is, right? I thought insurance pays up the value of the car if its more than 1/3 the cost and its new. I guess it depends on your policy.

My nephew and fellow poster, Rocket23, picked up his brand new car last Wednesday and within 22km on the South Eastern some dumbass drove right into the back of him and did a runner!
That must be some sort of record?
When he went back to the car yard they all knew him by first name already, poor bugger.
