Draft Table Talk:

The Bombers said they went with Gumbleton over Hansen because Gumbleton had played more football up forward. The plan isn't for next season, but in a few years from now when players like Lucas and Lloyd are at the end of their careers the Bombers will have Gumbleton ready for centre half forward.
The next two picks would not have had a lot of discussion, Jetta and Hislop had to be picked.
Pick 36 might have been a harder choice for Essendon, and there were several players at this spot they would have liked. Davey is a player that Essendon need next season for their forward line so it was a good pick, and they might have thought the Kangaroos would take him with the next pick. But Essendon did miss out on Goldstein, and Sheedy would have liked him.
Essendon won't expect a lot from their last two picks. Houli will play in the VFL unless injuries hit the Bombers' midfield, while Reimers is a backup option for the forward line or midfield. Interesting picks for Essendon as they went with one tall and then five smalls.

2006 Draft vs 2005 Draft:
Gumbleton and Ryder have a lot in common, so the Bombers' first pick in the 2006 and 2005 drafts was a tall forward from WA. In this draft the Bombers then went small with Jetta, Hislop and Davey. In the 2005 version Essendon picked Courtenay Dempsey with their second pick. The 2006 draft will help Essendon a lot more than the previous one, and the players selected in the 2006 draft probably play a lot more games next season than the players Essendon took in 2005. There probably isn't room to play both of them right away, so something to watch is to see whether Gumbleton gets a game next season before Ryder does, Ryder might have a year of AFL experience but it seems that Gumbleton is the more developed player.

The only one I could agree with is Gumby being like TD.

He reminds me of TD a bit on the ground. Dosn't move quick like say a Barry Hall but just contests every ball that comes his way and has a great pair of hands in packs, plucks it out of nowhere:)

those comparisons are rubbish, gumbleton is 197cm and terry was about 188, hislop is 184 cm thats the only comparison he can be given to joe, hislop is quick is a great tackler and likes the tough stuff. But to cap it off it compares houli to ben doolan. Houli is meant to be very very talented and tested well enough for speed in the camp, he has been compared to an adam yze which is a far cry from been doolan who was fat, slow and kicked further in the air then he did across the field and it mostly went to the opposition.

That is so true about Benny. But heaps of people rate him,or they did in the past...I never did thats for sure.

TD was taller than that wasn't he?

TD was james Hirds size, 188cm is about 6ft 2. He just played taller then what he was.

And Ben Doolan i dont know too many people that rated him, I heard from a mate that he went and played in the murry & ovens comp and not many people rated him there either including his own team mates. the only season i rated ben doolan was in 1993, mainly because he was purchased on such a big wage and the fact i didnt see him play bevcause i didnt watch reserves that much back then. As soon as he made it into the seniors i realised how crap this guy was. He would go down as my most despised player to ever pull on the red and black.

Bachar Houli plays much closer to a Mark Mercuri, not neccesarily as good mind you. Excellent skills, good mark despite his size, dangerous around goals, good vision. Comparing him to Ben Doolan seems more than a little odd, as others have noted, given that they don't play anything like eachother.

At this point the draftees most likely to play early in 2007 are Houli, Davey and Hislop, probably in that order.

I dout that would be the order I would think both Hislop is the most likely to start, he just looks ready to go.
