Chris Johnson already taken on a team by himself in the carnival in 05 as did Johnson in 05 very similar build and type of player.

Small defenders and midfielders are generally interchangeable anyway.

Proud will be playing half-forward or bench this season anyway. With a few stints in the centre to be eased into it.

That is an interesting (and good) comparison Lingface which I hadn't really thought of until you mentioned it. Going forward I had thought before that our young guys at the back lack a bit of the Cray brothers toughness. From the sound of it Proud would give that and he would also provide some nice skill and run from the back. Definately worth considering longer term imo.

If we had Armitage and Urqhuart (sp?) we'd be one of the toughest, youngest teams.
If we managed to get the next Chris Johnson with pick 22, super draft or no super draft, we will be laughing.

Saw this guy on the TEN news last night and geez what a tough looking character:cool:
Looks like he could be a byron pickett type.

You wouldn't be the first to make that comparison.

I miss seeing a Lions player ironing out an opponent.
Last time I can remember was Jason Roe, unfortunately he did his knee in the process.
Hopefully Chris Scott can teach Proud how to throw his weight around next season.

If you got someone as good as Chris Johnson at pick 1 you'd be pretty happy too.
An article from the club website on Proud
Proud part of the pride (http://lions.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=311480)
Seems like an articulate and mature sort of guy. I like this quote:
“I believe that I can play senior football next season,” Proud said. “We’re in a rebuilding stage at the moment and I am neither behind the eight ball nor in front of it. I am really hoping that I get the chance to have a crack at it this year.”

I'm impressed. Whoever wrote that up also did a great job, and checked their hearing. ;)
Albie also sounds like a very thoughtful kind of guy, definitely future leadership material.

Articulate:
- using language easily and fluently; having facility with words

& even more impressive is the use of Queensland/er/ers.......... 7 times...... that's over 2 per year that Albert has lived in the state. Throw in an opening 'local talent' & yeah you have no choice but to be impressed. ;)
I would hate to see an article written on Jamie Charman by the same writer.

Have you noticed that most articulate people also tend to be intelligent?

You probably associate being well articulated with intelligence, so that would be circular logic. By that I mean, part of your definition of intelligence is that they are well articulated.

I know. My point still stands. I also found your comment elitist:p

I'm not so sure that stands anymore. There's a whole breed of 'TV bots' like Catriona Roundtree, Andrew G, that glossy idiot off American Idol, Richard Wilkins, Karl Stefanovic, whole locust-like swarms of Daddo's that are articulate.
Talking is a practiced work-skill for those guys -- like smiling warmly on cue and knowing which camera to look at. But are they particularly intelligent? I doubt it.

Point taken, xplo and Grim.
I still think that Albie comes across as very thoughtful.
A contrast to that retired player who "un-retired" and who had difficulty in expressing his views, beset with contradiction.

No argument there. A lot of draftees tend to say as little as possible to keep the pressure and expectation lower (sound thinking generally too). Have to admit I expected Albie to take that line, but it was quite refreshing to hear him actually give some honest views.
Duh Duh, Snuka like football...
Gotta admit, this is the only part of that article that I will remember...
A proud Queenslander, he credits the Lions’ historic three-peat as his most memorable moment.

I actually knew Albert quite well when he was down here (at Braybrook College) and while he's a nice guy ... I wouldn't exactly call him mature or leadership material. Maybe he and Jonno Brown can carpool to Anger Management classes !

Thanks for the info LF. This was always a bit of a worry with Proud so we'll see how things go.

think hes starting up a fraternity with proud actually.
was just a bit of rumour i had heard was not having a go (big fan of Albert Proud actually).
Steve will be alright at least hes played a game unlike your boy.

There were risks with Proud and that is why he fell to 22. Hope he gets a good kick up the backside and he develops to his potential. Turning up to draft camp out of shape was never a good sign. Maybe getting Pykey in to have a few words about what not to do.
On the article the one thing I thought was interesting was that Bert (should we call him Ernie? he looks more like Ernie than Bert) is modelling his game on Black and is saying he is more of an inside player. That is interesting for me as I thought he would be playing in the forward line or possibly the back line this year and not in the midfield. We certainly need another in and under player with Vossy retiring and if Bert can fill that role I will be stoked.
