WERE? They are currently in Europe recording a new album. Not sure how it will stack up against thier classic material. Lets hope it good stuff. Meanwhile .............

It happened in the suburbs north of the river
Where the smokestacks scrape the air
And gangs of short haired boys roam the streets
Get out of there way, 'cause there out to get there share

Now Butcher, he was the leader
Had a reputation for being tough but fair
He knew life was just a gamble
So he lived from day to day without a care

Stick around and I'll tell ya
About Butcher and Fast Eddy

Across the river lived Fast Eddy
He was known to be treacherous, very mean
Even Eddy's sweet young sister out on the streets
Just a girl, barely fifteen

Now Fast Eddy, he led the rival gang
And he claimed he was better...than most
One day I'm gonna fix that Butcher
Always seemed to be this cocky braggart's boast

There's only the quick and the dead
I wanna know who's layin' down

Now, I'm gonna win this fight said Eddy
Yeah...'cause I'm gonna take a knife, and I'm gonna take a gun
But Butcher, he told his mates as they gathered 'round
I got two good fists, and you know I never...
Never ever ever been afraid of anyone

And it came the night, at last for their meeting
I can't lose said Eddy, 'cause I'm the best
But the cold light of morning found Eddy
His own switchblade knife...buried deep in his chest!

Yeah that's it all....Oh-WOW Butcher, and Fast Eddy
Yeah that's it all

And the law never did touch Butcher
And I'm so glad, 'cause I know so well
He was a born with a wild free spirit, and he never...
He never was the kind to live locked up in some dirty stinkin' cell

And the kids, they still talk about it
In the back streets and alleyways around town
They still talk about that cold, windy Saturday night
That old Butcher...ya know, he put Fast Eddy down...

Great stuff, IAMDASH. By far my favourite Rose Tattoo song. Scary, scary song because those scenarios used to be acted out every Saturday night in Melbourne once upon a time.

Astra Wally is another under rated anthem!

The Tatts first album is an all-time classic Australian rock album. My fave tracks are 'Remedy', Astra Wally, and 'Tramp' (love the the sleazy lyrics). I caught saw 'em at The Palace with The Angels, on the 'All Hell Breaks Loose Tour' in back in '98. Awesome, awesome, gig. Any of you lot catch it?

where's wally?

i did..seen many a tatts show on many a tour

if you dig that stuff you should check out an american band called Broken Teeth..very early bon scott mixed with early tatts influence..some blatant rip offs in honour of grimey oz hard rock

and there was a great melb band called Call of the Wild who released one album ..such is life..awesome vibe for ac/dc -tatts influence

search the bargain bins for that one..its worthy stuff..pete wells and geordie actually produced the album

Scarred for Life is my favorite from the Tatts.

I seem to remember a solo song by one of the band members (Pete Wells?), called "Rock'n'Roll Man" or something similar. I've never seen it in the shops.

Is Ian Rilen (bass) back with Rose Tattoo? I know he went off and reformed X and put out his own solo album 'Love Is Murder", I am not sure if he returned. For the diehard tatts collectors out there, try and pick up a copy of Ian Moss Petrolhead album (www.mosstrooper.com.au) which features both Ian Rilen and Paul DeMarco (drums) on one of the best pub rock albums you'll ever hear.

cheers

Jerome

Never saw them live, they were in their heyday well before my time, but they were a class act on the albums and singles I've heard.

Scarred For Life is my favourite Tatts album (love Pete Wells's slide in particular), and I have the Pete Wells solo single "Between The Saddle and The Ground" which is also great stuff.

Ian Rilen (X, Rose Tattoo) had his flat invaded this week. He lost a Pioneer stereo system, Sony 51cm TV, but they made off with his prized 1966 Fender Jaguar colour Placid Lake Blue (or Turquoise) serial no. 128795.

If by some slim slim chance anyone here has any info please private message me.

It won't have the "hunger" of the early stuff because it can't!

The playing will probably be better, the songs will probably be constructed better, but the desperation and desire to hit people between the eyes won't be as evident because they've been to the "top of the mountain" so to speak.

In musical terms getting "old and fat" has nothing to do with the physical only the mental.

That's what my first line means.
