Shocking list.
Out of the ones I've seen from that, none would make my Top 40.

I thought they would have Ben Hur in it.
16. Speed
The Keanu Reeves movie or is that another movie with the same title ?
If it's the Keanu movie then there's something seriously wrong with the people that put that show together.

Yep, it was the Keanu Reeves film.
Seriously, that list is abysmal.

The only one on that list that would make any of my lists would be Alien.. Rest are pretty ordinary.. I dont mind Braveheart either but not in my top 20..

It really is simple.
If you hit your head a gazillion times or actually prefer to watch Channel 9 and their insipid shows, the list would be close what your lowerst common denominator of a mind would think.
If you have a brain, even half a brain, your top film list would be vastly different.

4. The Sound of Music
3. Chariots of Fire
2. Titanic
1. Star Wars
The titles I've listed in bold seem to be the more bizarre nominations. The others I could reasonably expect to see in a Top 20 list.
Although given that it was called Most Maginificent Movies it is hard to figure out what exactly the criteria for nomination was.

Me, Myself and Irene?
Decent movie, funny but about Jim Carrey's tenth best movie.
Dumb and Dumber and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are clearly his two best.
No Indiana Jones? Terminator?
I could list about 1000 others.
Pretty pathetic.
Eddie needs to 'bone' whoever made this list.

2 for me if I was lucky.
Utter tripe.
You could simply pick an earlier decade and most of these would whip most in their list:

That list is terrible
It has about as much authority as the "We surveyed 100 people, and the top 6 answers are" questions on Family Fued.
Hahahahaha, that list is abysmal! I'm not talking from a cynical viewpoint or anything. It is just absolutely laughable that some of those movies are in there. I mean, I really like some of them but they are nowhere near the list of my top 100.
Apart from a couple of token selections they seem to have no idea about any film made before 1980, but even then, they missed some absolute rippers from the modern era. Shawshank Redemption anybody?
Psycho? Rebel Without A Cause? Nearly every movie that Dry Rot listed?

The topic in itself was stupid - didn't they have a movie character one a few weeks ago, I am sure some of the same movies were included as well as some of the "comments".
Agree with the topic- it was a poor topic and poor list. How to rate "Me Myself and Irene" as more memorable than Speed or Alien??????

Ordinary list. Actually one of the worst top 20 movies of all time lists I have ever seen.
The Sound of Music, Titanic and Chariots of Fire would be a chance for a top 20 spot in a half intelligent rankings of the best movies of all time. Braveheart and Star wars would be a top 40 chance. Other than that the ones who put this top 20 together must be on drugs.

LOL, Me Myself and Irene. Oh dear ....
I'm guessing that these are all movies that 9 have in their vault.
If Channel 10 compiled their list, expect to see Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore!!!
Any list in which Predator is not number 1 is just a waste of time. Not a single arnie movie in the list. Pathetic. You can tell who ever wrote this list lacked a Y comosone.

Question - is there a relationship between the production houses of the films listed? E.g. they're all from Paramount, for example?
Also, how many do CH9 have the rights to?

It was also a brilliant subtle piece of propaganda.

Mrs Doubtfire's inclusion must be some form of post modern joke.
I like the following ones:
20. There's something about Mary
19. The Full Monty
18. Alien
16. Speed
14. Me, Myself & Irene
13. Home Alone
11. Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
9. Romancing The Stone (aka the poor man's Indiana Jones)
6. Die Hard
5. Crocodile Dundee
4. The Sound of Music
1. Star Wars
However only 'Star Wars' and 'Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid' would have any credibility in any serious top 20 list.
I think they just picked the twenty highest rating movies that Nine have or have had rights to in the past.

Yeah, but have a look at the list, it's hardly a "best films" list. They're all just (mostly) good, fairly light entertainment films.

No, I think you and the program's producers are the one struggling with the concept of "Magnificent".

–adjective
1. making a splendid appearance or show; of exceptional beauty, size, etc.: a magnificent cathedral; magnificent scenery.
2. extraordinarily fine; superb: a magnificent opportunity; magnificent weather.
3. noble; sublime: a magnificent poem.
4. (usually initial capital letter) (formerly used as a title of some rulers) great; grand: Lorenzo the Magnificent.
5. lavishly munificent; extravagant: a magnificent inheritance.
I fail to see how and where this list of flicks fits that criteria of magnificent.

Your clearly the type of person they are trying to appeal to then aren't you? Doesn't really say much does it. Magnificent means the movie needs to be good and memorable, which most of these movies AREN'T.

Why? Because I understand that it wasn't suppose to be the 20 best movies of all time?
I dont know why the mentioned 'Maginificent', maybe 'Memorable' like the way they described the list would have been more appropiate.

45. 8.4 Untergang, Der (2004) 27,959
This movie should be much, much higher. Best movie I have ever seen, truly moving.

Nice to see they were using the work experience kiddies that week.
I'm looking forward to 20-1 Best TV shows, when they list all Channel 9 shows. Like the TV portion of the "brainiest" shows...

I've been away for a few days and this is the first I have heard of this list and after reading it I am just utterly dumbfounded.
From the title of the list ('magnificent' - WTF?) to the films included, I am just lost for anything to say that has not been posted already.
Friggin hell....

It was called "20 to 1: Magnificent Movies" according to Wikipedia. I went to the Channel 9 website but they didn't have it up (probably realised it was a crap list regardless of it's name).

How many of these does Nine have the repeat rights to? And are they on Nine's summer schedule? or Maybe one of the Fox movie channels has them lined up?
Or am I looking for cross-promotion that isn't there.

Actually Moulin Rouge would have been good if there had been better male and female leads.
They were far too sugary for their roles
