Who do you get more into, your state's matches or Australias? Personally, I would rather go and see SA play than Australia and I am more into the redbacks by a long , long way.

Nothing beats an Australian test match, not even a Bulls win in the Shield. One day matches fall far below the importance of the longer game....
So Australia, then Queensland....

But test matches s*** all over state matches.
There really is no comparison in my opinion.

No it's not. There is a point to it, the pura cup and being crowned best state for the season. How many meaningless series are held for international cricket?

I use to enjoy state cricket but over the last few years my interest has waned off due to the number of players that move interstate all the time. I want to see local players play and see who really is the best state. Perhaps they should include a team from the ACT or somewhere and all the rejects can go there and play.

When Australia play decent opposition I enjoy them playing more than Pura Cup. However since there are so many useless test sides around many games are boring.

Wouldn't say any international Test series are, but definitely all the meaningless ODI tournaments are a joke. International cricket is a better spectacle and you're seeing the best players, but state cricket provides more of a competition.
It also provides bagging rights over other people in Australia, and gives a sense of tribalism.

Not if it was a meaningless one day series. But any Test series, yes (there's no such thng as a meaningless test eries though).

State Cricket is ok, i guess, but how could anyone not rate supporting their country more ?
So you'd rather see Australia win yet another meaningless series (not the ashes), than your state win the pura cup?
meaningless to who?
i'd rather watch the national team anytime.
besides the best team doesn't always win the pura cup , or for that matter the best team doesn't even make the final sometimes, due to national player unavailabilities etc.
I love the Vics but you can't rate domestic cricket over the national test side. There is something very special about the baggy green no matter who we play.

Is this a question Country any day of the week the skill level is so much higher and everything means so much more.
I you telling me if you were good enough to play for your country you wouldn't you'd stick with your state at a much lower standard.

So you'd rather see Australia win yet another meaningless series (not the ashes), than your state win the pura cup?
******** it pisses me off when people call series "meaningless".
FFS, 12 players are representing our country at a game of cricket so as far as im concerned, i want Australia to win every game they play.
Whether it be one day internationals, tests or 20/20
Obviously, in some series like the Ashes and the World Cup the stakes are raised.
However, whether we are playing India, England or Sri Lanka i expect to win and i can't understand how people call them meaningless.
You tell it that to the players that are playing, if they lose form in these "meaningless" games then they could expect to be dropped.
That is hardly meaningless.
England think ODI's are meaningless, or at least there press and supporters do, however i think it has more to do with the simple fact that england are useless at ODI's.
People who call any test series meaningless have no idea regarding the history of the game and should stick to playing with their yobbo mates in the local 4th grade comp where they can smash a quickfire 10 and send a few pies down late in the day.
One Day Internationals are a vital part of the international cricket community, look at how many people showed up to the Nz - Sri Lanka test match while on the other hand the New Zealand crowds flock to One Day Internationals.
Every game of cricket is important.
FACT.
State. Except the Ashes.
Generally because only lovers of the game enjoy watching it and you don't have to listen to the yobs who only watch cricket because Australia wins.

For those who think it's a stupid question, it's not. It's a very good question.
It's probably half and half for me. Yeah, I want to see Australia win, but only more so in the Ashes or the World Cup.
In fact, I want to see SA win more than Australia because you appreciate success more after a long period rather than being successful all the time.
And in state cricket the competition is alot closer. There is more exciting finishes, more action. Teams are always changing, new talent every week, no team ever seems to be terribly poor, it's quite even. Last Season i think every team had a chance of making the finals (pretty sure Queensland were the only secure side)
I prefer England in tests to Hampshire in FC even though i still want Hants to win, when it comes to One day cricket then i'd rather watch the Hawks than England.

When I say meaningless I am referring to ridiculous series such as when we play South Africa in a 5 match one day series. What prize is on the end of it? Therefore it is hard to really care about it and they play so much of it now too.

I'm much the same. I'd watch England over Warwickshire in Test/County Championship matches.
In the One Dayer's though I'd rather watch the Bears than England. Maybe because the Bears actually have a chance of winning!
That said though, I don't think many England fans rate ODI's, they just don't have any importance unless it's the World Cup.

I probably say state is better too, but that's a strange argument. Seeing the "future" players surely wouldn't compare to seeing the best of the best at international level. It's like preferring an Elvis impersonator to the real thing

They do play too many one day series but I think the meaningless ones are the ones such as the "DLF Cup" and the NatWest Series (where we threw a game to Bangladesh FFS). ODIs can be enjoyable, but not when there's too many. The SA series was good as ODI series go.
There are so many players in the Australian team that I have a genuine dislike for (although this has decreased by 1 recently) and now that Blewett isn't playing for SA, there aren't too many I dislike in the state team. So if SA was playing against Australia, I would definately barrack for SA.

In cricket state quite considerably. Get a lot of satisfaction if you support your state and see them when they are better than the rest.
I don't care about country pride, well not in cricket anyway. State cricket is a lot more interesting because there's more genuine contests. Not any one side is dominating all the time and winning all the time over a long long period. And there isn't a huge gap between first and second, second and third, and first and last etc.
