There seems to be a few intelligent posters on this site. Madman, Blac and The cat. The Cat really seems to know a lot about a lot of teams although he has been fairly quite over the last couple of days. Did anyone else venture down to 'Wedge Rd' on the weekend, not a bad standard.

I think we do have at least 4 blokes who are capable of kicking over 30 goals in a season!!
that is your opinion and thats cool, I think that no team should leave it to 1 guy alone to kick all there goals, the better teams will have multiple options up forward, sometimes you have bad days, there always needs to be other options!!
e.g I am 1 out in the square and the full back is killing me, so in theory I should move myself into a pocket, get out of play, and then 1 of the other key men can utilise a matchup that we like and take advantage!!
The key to this though is that that other key player knows how to play in the forward line. Playing forward is like any other position on the ground,YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE POSITION CORRECTLY!! you cant just walk in from playing CHB your whole career and expect to be a successful FF. Hence the more options down there for us the better in theory!!
But I will say this, when a FF is beating his opponets, then there is no need to crowd the forward line, or move him to the ruck or chf, that i will agree 100% with.

You're too modest Madman. While there may be 'options' it's best to rely on your 'winners' and you were a clear stand-out as a winner. You actually had the audacity to present yourself leading straight up the ground, wheras no other forward in the game would lead straight - they all wanted to go wide so as to avoid a contest. Good forwards go straight up the ground and/or straight at the footy. Only you and Elsternwick 24 showed any signs of knowing what good forward play was about.
I don't think I was too harsh on your ruckman, he's slow and there's little you can do about it, and given the size of that knee brace, he isn't about to become Jeff White overnight. He reads the play well, but I don't think rovers know how to play to him. One of the onballers/wingmen should follow him around and look for the quick hands when he gets a mark/free. He was looking to hand-off every time he got it on Sunday.

Yeah fair enough and all Ruckmen should handball to the mostly better skilled smaller quicker men but 1 thing I will garuntee is come round 2 (our first game) he will be raring to go, his knee has been slowing him down over pre season but as he has said to me he is feeling better with every day that passes!! There is No replacing this mans experience and in tight games leaders are whats needed and he is one!!
But in saying that, there is a Big position waiting, that Backup Ruckmen is needed so Roddas and Gareth, who both pulled up a little sore from the weekend, 1 of them needs to grab hold of that spot!!!

4 Apr 2007, 16:21
All ruckmen need to hand off? Elsternwick's 28 had good foot skills. If they have that big fellow back (Neill?), then I'd leave 28 in the goal square and tell the players to go direct to the square. If their full forward doesn't return, that wouldn't be the worst option.
Would be better than playing 6 out of the goal square anyway!

Thought Skye recruited well, how did those blokes go. Thought the big ruckman wasnt the worst out there. Some people seem to be harsh judges out there, they must be good footballers themselves. Me seems to think that the great 'South East' one must be a gun.

Cant be more happier with the Recruits.
Tim Barr, Corey Stephens, Glen Harvey and Luke Kenely were all in our bests. Obviously Gareth didnt play out the game, Mickey Hester was also Great, Tim Lambert kicked 2 goals, Smithy couldnt play unfortunately, I'm not sure if I have missed any, the reserves had 11 on the bench so a few played a couple of qaurters in that game but I didnt see much.
I cant remember who else played recruit wise....

oThere won't be any punches thrown in round 1. The cobras will not have a team. They had 5 guys at training last night and it was the first time they could use their ground. The excuses are running out, cricket is finished, they have their ground back, thug Rossborough has quit (not sighted again last night), Kreskas waiting to sign elsewhere, Brown to Dingley, Macklin to Mulgrave, Vuong to amateurs. Anybody from Southern Cobras care to comment. It will be tough for the club to come back from a second recess in 4 years.
I seriously dont understand how the cobras think they'll get up with 5 players at training with 3 weeks before the season starts ,why hasn't the league stepped in and sortred the situation out,how are 3rd divisions teams meant to plan there fixtures, this is ridiculous.

Yeah it is the same. I remember he captain the old Carrum downs in the early days when I first played at wedge rd about 5 years ago, was a very good footballer back then and he seems to have not lost any touch.

I spose the answer is NO!!
This is why i get paid very little and am most likely always broke!!
Slightly depressing really.
And Mussa has passed to me deep in the forward line many times, he was actually 45m out on the weekend and offer to short pass to me, I said "Dont be ridicolous mate, kick the goal" he lined up from the 50 and slotted it home in true mussa style!!!

Well, well, well. Look who's finally online. Good to see you onboard GP. How was your luncheon the other day (unless I have you mistaken).
Young Gun, I think you're reading way to much into the first practice match, although you're essay was quite interesting. Had any thoughts about seeing if the SFL need any scribes for their record? Me thinks you'd fit the bill.
On the negative for Skye, I have concerns about their endurance... While it is April, the fitness should be there now as that's what most teams have had to focus on due to lack of grounds.
Not sure I can agree with you on this one. This is one of the main reason's you have practice matches. While all the running, weight sessions, fartlek's and beep tests are great for building a fitness base, what they don't give you is match fitness.
You need to get that body on body pressure, cop a few bumps, lay some tackles, recover, give a 2nd, 3rd, 4th effort. And you really can't get these
from 'intra-club' games.
But all in all a pretty good summary.
I'll be keen to see how they go over their next few games leading up to the start of the season.
But it does now seem that there's quite a bit of work to be done if they're going to keep up with the flag favorites Sth Yarra.
GKW and his merry men are flying, I mean imagine, they beat Parkmore... A DIV 2 SIDE... god help us they must be good.
I wonder if Phil Ballis and his boys have already booked in their annual leave starting 24 Sep.

Sorry people, not MPNFL news, but very interesting general football news.
Have just had it confirmed to me that Andrew McArthur has just been cleared to his new club from Rosebud.
He was never recognised as a Parkmore player and didn't need a clearance from them.
The SFL has made a massive blunder on this one.
Have also heard that Football Victoria are looking into whether they Parkmore should lose the 2006 flag, as they played all year with an unregistered player.
To add to it, his 3 match suspension from last years grand final has also been lifted and he can play in Round 1 this season! Has it happened before?
Interesting reading from the MPNFL site, can anyone confirm if true.

Surely that should also put their promotion to Division Two in jeopardy.
Sending a team such as Black Rock at this point to Division Two would be difficult as they haven't had the opportunity to promote themselves to potential recruits as a Two club instead of a Three.
who r they going to give the flag too?? north kew dont exist?? maybe Black rock???
sure we think they should be stripped of the flag, but do you really think the league or football victoria are going to have the balls to take it off a club like parkmore that is fighting for survival already? i don't think so!

Would think that as long as Parkmore did the right thing- it will be the SFL at fault, as they would have been aware he had played all season.
Very much doubt any flag stripping will occur.

After not one player turned up to training at their last session, it is now official that the Southern Cobras have folded. The question now is where does it leave their 2 good players that were committed. Kreskas could command about $350+ a game, especially as he would potentially be an assistant coach and Sheedy would be worth around the $150 mark. Brown has left the cobras and gone to Dingley for about $250. Looks like with a redraw now a certainty, Madman will not have to wait an extra week due to the bye!

Masterplan, these blokes are 3rd division players and they command $350 a game, what has this world come too. Can anyone fill me in on who Sheedy is, please tell me he didnt used to play for Glen Eira. Kreskas obviously can play but is he worth that. Where do these clubs get there money from. These guys must be top notch, there side finished on the bottom last year and now they have folded (If the rumors are true and i hope not). If these 3 are that good surely they had 1 or 2 others around them that they could have at least won a game. (By the way have nothing against the Cobras i just feel that a lot of these so called guns get rated or rate themselves far far to highly) Maybe some of these 'Southern League' sides need to pull there head in and concerntrate on some home grown talent who just want to play for the club and the jumper, especially in the lower grades. Good things come to those who wait, anyone can buy a premiership, look where it got a side like Parkmore. Into 2nd division and they will get smashed all year and i would say fold next year. (That is not good for footy)
Anyway who has practise matches this week. I know Skye are playing Glen Eira, any others.

If Cobras do fold and the Skye start the season on time it will be great because we will all get to see Madman do what he does best a bit earlier, and that is 1 thing that is great for local football.:thumbsu: :D :thumbsu:
The cobras have got themselves to blame if they in fact have folded, they should planned after they had such a bad 2006 season. On there 3 guns though Sheedy was a century goal kicker from nar nar goon he can demand what he wants very good footballer, Brown very overrated player from what i saw,Kreskas is a gun and has proven himself at alot higher standard of football are tooronga b@f in 2004 and 2 in row at the cobras he can demand what he likes cause his a playing assistant coach.

Seriously though, if I am correct the so called "rumour" is that the Cobras didnt get anyone to training last night hence they may have folded!!
Now 2 points:
1. Wasnt it Easter Monday last night so I wouldnt asume they would be training??
2. Maybe they have switched there training nights to tuesday Thrusdays o hence thats why there werent any at training last night!!
Personally I dont think the cobras are folding, I am not going to believe any of these rumours unles the sfl release info or even SC Coach hops on here and posts
Dont get ahead of ourselves just yet Id say

Gents,
Let us get off the angry pills for now. I managed to see the winless Cobras at Black Rock last year and they gave the boys from McDonald Reserve a real fright, with the Rockers only securing the game in the last 10 minutes or so. I take on board what people are saying about them, but on that day, they played a pretty good game of footy.
Given that last night would have been a scheduled training night, do we have any update on Sandown's status?

I can ensure all of you out there that THE OBSERVER is not Ross Tiller or any other Cobras player. We have in place a strict policy that no one is to post on the forum except for myself . Another cheap shot at the club by someone impersonating one of us in order to give the Cobras a bad name.
I have the upmost respect for all clubs that are out there trying to keep afloat in order to provide a home for anyone who wants to play this great game of Aussie Rules Footy. Why can't this forum talk about footy instead of using it to air their personal grudges they have towards a coach, player or club by using it for personal attacks, abuse and threats of violence and then pretending to be someone they are not. I will not let anyone from the Cobras get involved in any of this rubbish.I thought we were here to play football and enjoy the highs and lows a team sport brings. The few on this forum who are using it the wrong way need to get back to reality and stop trying to create animosity between the SFL teams.
