Did he see the writing on the wall
Sad in one way but we can blood someone for his spot and not worry to much about results all goes well
I would like to see 6 batsman Langer Hayden Ponting Hussey Clarke and Gilly
5 Bowlers Lee McGrath Clarke Tait or Johnson and that spinner who some out of the England camp say they have him worked out:eek:

Symonds replaced Tait in the squad and Voges replaced Martyn. Seems to be some current of support for Voges to play. From WA and he bowls a bit too.

I have to admit I never enjoyed him at all as a player, and always kind of guiltily hoped he'd get the chop even when his stats were justifying his place in the side. But I have to respect the way he has gracefully bowed out, top class stuff. :thumbsu:

Totally bizarre timing. You'd think he'd want his farewell test to be in Perth.....
Ah well, all the best to him and look forward to seeing a new kid get a go now.

It's been a great career. Always enjoyed seeing him bat when he was on song. He was such an elegant strokemaker. Seems like he is a private man who was deeply hurt about being ditched for six years from the Australian side early on in his career.
From the reports, the speculation about his place in the side just got to him and he jumped for fear of being pushed. Enjoy your retirement Marto.
