I have cut a list down to 4 of who i reckon could be our our next coach. So who would u rather

Neale Daniher- there has been some rumours about a return
Mark Thompson- he might not be at the cattery nexy year
Mark Harvey- he has always chased that job
Gary O'Donnell- he is a experienced assistant coach

IMO Neale Daniher REASON: Funny and good coach

1) Gary O'Donnell doesn't even want to be the coach

2) We'd be interviewing and strongly considering many top assistants

3) We're still not 100% sure when we need a new coach

Over rated coaches to a certain extent, but Neale Daniher would be my choice.

Funny?? Yeah that has always been my number 1 criteria whenever selecting a senior AFL coach.

I would want GOD until he actually says there is no way he will coach at senior level.

Second would be Bomber but don't think he will go from the Cattery- if they finish top 4 next year, they will extend his contract

If Sheedy's contract wasnt to be renewed, you'd hope the club would allow him input in the their decision. For mine, Mark Harvey...no nonsense approach, would command respect from the club and his peers alike and his playing history is something the young players would admire for giving it everything he had.

After Sheedy eventually departs I wouldn't mind seeing a completely Non-Essendon coach (no Essendon background), I think it would be greatly beneficial to have a different culture/style of thinking come in to the club (as long as they have that winning mentality)

I'm glad Mark Thompson doesn't have a single vote, smart people

I'd go for an outsider. A younger person.

Nathan Buckley will 100% coach one day, and someone like him would be the "type" of person we need after Sheedy.

Whenever I hear Buckley talk, his interest, knowledge and enthusiaism to understand everything about the game is like no other player I've seen. He will be a great coach. It would be good to poach him from the Pies too.

I don't think we should go for an Essendon person - it's too limiting.

I feel ill.

You have a good point, and a reasonable argument but I still feel ill.

wouldnt mind either VOSS, BUCKLEY OR HIRD, they all have something to offer, all intelligent people and legends of the game. They will instantly grab the respect of the playing group (like roo's) and as soon as they get into the coaching mode they will be successful yet again imo

I agree, I would go for Hirdy or Vossy regardless of experience, legends of the game dont need coaching experience

Anyone would need some sort of initiation into coaching before taking on such a role, particularly at this level. This is much different that the player/coaches we come across at secondary levels, with the speed and intensity of the game, not to mention keeping your team marketable for gate receipts, multi million dollar sponsors, etc. The pressure is much greater all round.

Voss would be a handy one, great footballer and great brain, is also coaching at the academy this year. Has played at clubs down the bottom and top and knows what is required to make them good and sustain it. Dare I say hird playing coach next year if Sheedy not renewed.. He could come of the bench and make an impact until he is about 40 (body permitting)
