Gilchrist can bring Australia's downfall, when he calls it a day, as I believe he has set the standard as a wicket-keeper batsman for generations to come. He is the cleanest hitter of the ball I've ever seen. I hope he sticks around as long as possible, the game wouldn't be the same without him... we all know it.

Despite his century, Gilchrist is not the player he used to be. He was the number one ranked batsman at one stage and he is a fair way off that now. It depends which Gilchrist you are talking about, but even at his best I would still rate Warne as a harder cricketer to replace. I rate Gilchrist's keeping very highly, but I think others can do the job. If Gilchrist's replacement doesn't score as many runs, others can pick up the slack. But the Warne factor will be gone forever.

Gilchrist is past it and has played 1 good innings in a whole year

I'm not talking about "in a whole year", I'm trying to say he has set a standard over his entire career. No one will ever get close. Please tell me you think he has fulfilled everything that he set out to do in his career.

He deserves more credit than he gets, now and forever, that's all I am trying to point out

Haddin will be an adequate replacement.

Either one of McGrath and Warne will be much harder to replace than Gilchrist.

gilly is still a fine wicket keeper and is far more value to the team than say brett lee ><

Incorrect

Bowlers are the most important part of a team. You need 20 wickets to win a test, if you can't take wickets than no matter how good your batsman are you won't win.

There are several good keeper in Pura Cup at the moment, if selected they will be competent replacements for Gilly.

McGrath to can be replaced. Hilfenhaus, Tait and Johnson have what it takes to be world class pacemen.

Warne is the one that is irreplaceable. MacGill isn't as mentally tough and the other spinners havent proven that they have the ability to dominate First Class Cricket let alone Test Cricket

Gilchrist may have set the standard and taken wicketkeeping to a whole new level, but Haddin is right there on that level now.

If Australia hadn't sorted out their middle order then things might be different but with Hussey coming in and Clarke sorting himself out things look ok.

Thats a pile of bull

Haddin will be a good keeper-batsman, up there with Akmal, Boucher and Dhoni but a level below Gilchrist and Sangakarra

I dont think sangakarra is as good a keeper as gilchrist but he's a fine batsman and keeps well.

Haddin will be the best keeper/batsmen in the world once Gilly retires. Most keeper/batsmen in other countries still average 30 with the bat.

Gilly is a once-in-a-lifetime player, but we will have a solid replacement.

Bollocks, ever heard of Kumar Sangakkara?

There are other countries playing cricket you know. May want to look outside your backyard if you are going to make such a statement.

Lets hope he keeps on playing for a few more years so we never have to play Haddin in the side.

By that time the likes of Tim Paine and Adam Crosthwaite should be ready.

IMO, Warne and McGrath will be harder to replace than Gilchrist.

I can see Clarke becoming a very similar bowler to McGrath, but we still need a third paceman, with Tait and Johnson the 2 obvious ones, and Shane Watson when he returns from injury.

Warne on the other hand is pretty much irreplacable. Could go with Cullen from SA as he seems the one that stands out from the pack. I just hope the selectors dont go for MacGill.

His Keeping to Murali on Turning Dust Bowls is brilliant, i would say he is as good a keeper as Gilchrist.. and is a super batsmen as well..
