We all know he is a champ, and if you are going to buy something for a players retirement, he would be the one you buy for.

However, I just wonder how many pieces will be released for his retirement. I notice that 700th wicket piece sold out without even being officially released and already being flogged for alot on ebay.

This is $2,500 (approx), pricey but i have the money.

What are peoples thougts on this stuff, dont bother not worth it? Or wait and see if something better comes out. I personally think its too informal for a retirement piece, I would have preferred his career stats or something like that. Also thinking there is a chance that a Warne/McGrath piece might be released.

I expect it will sell out pretty quick either way. Should I jump on board?

Anyone else thinking about getting some Warne memorabilia either for the 700th or retirement? Or had experience dealing with cricket shop?

I could probably think of something better to buy for $2500.

I'm sure if you wait a little while there will be no shortage of choices.

This is all assuming he gets 700 wickets of course.

Wasn't there an expose on Today Tonight about most of Tiny Grig's "Limited edition" memorabilias being unable to be sold afterwards (ie ebay/trading post/local paper etc) for even 1/2 the original price?

Do the sums...only 250 at $2555 = $638750. So it's over half a million bucks that the sportsonline group gets. Sure they have to pay for the physical item, CA and Warnie probably get some, but there is a lot of profit in there for someone.

If you want something for the "above the bar" or "straight to the pool room", then go for something you can afford and looks good. If you want an investment buy bank shares or property.

Cutting edge journalism I'm sure. Not at all biased.

After watching the Christmas Eve story on 'how to avoid overeating at Christmas,' and having Tip 6: Don't Overeat at Christmas, I tend to agree.

Regardless of who did the story, I would stand by my statement that this sort of stuff is not a good INVESTMENT. It might be a great piece of art, might be an awesome addition next to the plasma screen, might be a cool thing to talk about, but I doubt it will make you money.

Actual one of a kind stuff might be different, but not the "limited edition of only 350" type of stuff.

Of course Warne is in marketing terms the closest thing to Bradman, so maybe it will go up in value, but will that desparate collector want the signed shirt, the Lord's print, the farewall (Melb) photo, the farewell (Syd) photo, the welcome to the commentary team photo etc etc etc. Only 250 of each, but there are 10 different pieces... so that's a lot of product and a lot of cash for Grig and co.
