Anyone up for a MMA tipping comp?

If we get enough interest im willing to run one. Start this years NYE events and end mid year or next NYE.

We need to choose what promotions/shows we tip for. UFC, PRIDE, IFL, K1, BODOG, Showtime, Strikeforce etc.

This is a fantastic idea, Presti.

I’m defiantly down for this if it creates enough interest. If we're starting with the NYE cards, we don't have long to get this up and running. Obviously the UFC and PRIDE are automatic selections, so I’m thinking those two and either one of (in order of preference) Strikeforce, WEC, EliteXC, BODOG, IFL, K1, ICON, Rage Cage.

What cards would be tipped on? I mean, just the UFC alone will have around 25 cards next year. If we're including every card from the UFC, PRIDE and just one more promotion, three would be more than enough.

It’s going to also have to depend on the knowledge of fighters that compete in those other promotions between poster to poster. I’m MMA orientated everyday, so it doesn’t bother me which promotions are tipped on, but I can see a big disadvantage with casual MMA fans when some will have to just be going on fighters records to tip with.

Well we could pick and choose cards from Bodog, IFL, Strikeforce, Showtime according to how big they are with well known fighters. And have tipping for every show for Pride and UFC, or maybe just the UFC ppv's.

Do we want a scoring system like:

1pt for Correct fighter.
Then if you picked the right fighter:

1pt for right finish.
1pt for right round.

I really like the scoring system that you suggested. For example: Fighter A via knock out - round 2, if correct would equal three points. Method of victory needs to be simple too, just knock out or submission or decision. I guess we should also state the round lengths for each fight/card considering it differs from promotion to promotion.

Also, before I list my tips, is it full card, or just the main card tipping for each event?

We will go full card. Makes it simple.

I'll post a new topic just for the tips and discussion can stay in this one to keep it tidy.

Methods of Victory:

KO
Submission
TKO/Ref Stoppage
Decision (Both Unanimous and Split)

If theres a rare one like DQ we will just forget about points for that criteria.

Also maybe 2 bonus pts for tipping the winner of every fight?

A draw in promotions that allow it will be a point either way.

The two bonus points for tipping an entire card correct is a great idea.

Also, I think it should be noted that when people are selecting a decision victory, not to list a round. That would also mean for decision victories, three points cannot be awarded for correct?

I'll play but my knowladge of fighters out side the two big ones is far inferiour to you two. But what hell put me down.

Just a question. TKO v KO pick would be luck of the draw with your strikers. Is this so we pick a winner via KO vs GNP sort of arrangement?
