Anyone going to see it?

Looks like a pretty good movie. Critics have said it's Smith's best performance.

The true story of Chris Gardner, who went from being a homeless, single dad to a multi-millionaire owner of his own brokerage firm.

PS. The makers of this movie spelt Happiness wrong on purpose.

what was the purpose?

Something to do with how Chris Gardner saw it scrawled on a bathroom wall one day.

Plot Summary for The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

In 1981, Chris Gardner was a struggling salesman in little needed medical bone density scanners while his wife toiled in double shifts to support the family including their young son, Christopher. In the face of this difficult life, Chris has the desperate inspiration to try for a stockbroker internship where one in twenty has a chance of a lucrative full time career. Even when his wife leaves him because of this choice, Chris clings to this dream with his son even when the odds become more daunting by the day. Together, father and son struggle through homelessness, jail time, tax seizure and the overall punishing despair in a quest that would make Gardner a respected millionaire.

at least he didnt call it "young, tight and horny. call me 555-9892".

wont be seeing the movie. he'll probably end up winning against the odds.

Same here!

But I acutally went and saw it today (had to escape out of this damn heat), and it wasn't half bad. Poor Will had to do alot of running for this role (it seems in every second scene he is running away from someone, after someone, for a bus, for a train, etc, etc)... but all up was pretty well done. Quite amusing in some parts and of course makes you think about how really good we all got it. :thumbsu:

Nice story, average movie. I fell asleep towards the end of it.

Oh yeah about the running, I was half expecting someone to shout "Run Forest, Run!"

I didn't walk out of it thinking it was rubbish, it at least had me engaged for the duration. Probably only because it is based on a true story.

The funny part of it is that while it's a feel good story about hard times, hard work, determination, faith and a bit of luck, the moral of the story basically is that money & status = happiness:cool:

Depressing and extremely slow. Found myself fighting to stay awake in order to reach the end of it.

The best part for me was seeing Homer Simpson in the flesh on the big screen, even if his role was a prick.

Pretty much, perhaps Pursuit of Happyne$$ would have been a better title.

Finally had a look at this movie on DVD and was not hugely impressed. It was too reliant on artificial tension to keep the story rolling, how many scenes were there where Smith has to do something pivotal in X minutes? One too many for mine.

Then after dragging us through his extended misery the pay off comes late and kind of weak.
